Should be Kristen Lester I think, has been at Pixar since Finding Dory but this would have been her directorial debut.
Watching the clip, I'm thinking a big reason it was scrapped might have been because the magical girl transformation stuff was a metaphor for puberty, and that would just have been repeating Turning Red again. Plus the idea of "rejecting the gem" to not transform would be akin to puberty blockers and that's no bueno for a Disney product now.

Wow. I couldn’t even hear most of her dialogue, but in less than five minutes, Birdie already established herself as completely insufferable! Bravo, Disney!
I’m also noticing the one comment asking about the director’s gender/identification. Which tells me that when word gets around, people are once again gonna be sobbing about what a waste it was. Just like the tranny episode of Moon Girl. And the gayer version of Elio that literally nobody wanted to pay to see.
 
God damn, that art style is ass, even for Beanmouth. I thought Furries freakng out that their $1000 commission paypigs were leaving them over AI artbots was funny, but when these pretentious "artists" get replaced by an AI, it's going to be hilarious.

It's a storyboard. They aren't necessarily accurate to the movie.

What is it with millenial leftists and animating characters that have "awkward" misunderstandings where they hurt each other's feelings and talk a lot about who was in the wrong? It's so sickeningly trite that I can't stand to watch it. They feel so entitled to "hold each other accountable", but in real life talking to your friends like that should get you kicked in the balls.

Is it a fanfic thing? I know these animator chicks are all pornbrained.

Look at all of the media, especially produced by Hollywood in the past 20 years, and name one villain without a "poor widdle me uwu" backstory. A true "fuck you I'm taking over" villain, and wasn't brought back via live-action reboot or worse (somehow Palpatine survived bs).

There's none.

Writers literally can not write a compelling villain anymore. At all.

Hell, the only one I can kind of think of is the General whatever in charge of the humans in Avatar, and from what I understand it was written so poorly people were cheering them on.
 
Tbh im glad turning red made it over this one.

First of all turning red 9/11 drama was funny asf.

Second of all cookie cutter magical girl superhero shit is tired asf now, stop peddling this bs to a generation that was born like 2 decades after sailor moon peaked. At least turning into a big fluffy red panda is a bit more interesting.

Also this thing wouldve been absolutely obliterated in the modern magical girl field by kpop demon hunters and the guaranteed upcoming sequals anyways, it manages to use most of the magical girl formula in a way thats more fresh and most importantly actually appealing to kids.

Edit: Also MIGHT be fake but looking around for concept art and based off the outfit design in the clip I think the friend is supposed to be the one in the middle here, but in other concept art her human form is white and blonde so thats kinda blackface

I had seen this go around earlier but I had no idea it would apparantly also include one of them cucking her old friend (who is unfindable except in like 1 barely related looking piece of concept art with a completely different style) with her new friends and that friend also being the real mc or smth.

And the other 4 friends seem to clearly match up the squad in the clip which helps the legitimacy of the other stuff

Somehow the real concept managed to be even worse and more lame than the crystal gems looking art that was already out there, and somehow it had more cucking than steven universe too!

Why are all of these Western magical girl shows so depressing by starring absolutely hideous girls, both in body and mind? It makes grimderp magical girl shows look cheerful in comparison. For all of Homura's woes, at least she wasn't a gigantic bodybuilder pretending to be a woman*.

*Although that Ore magical girl show with magical gender-swapping girls into burly dudes was hilarious and poked fun at the whole thing. I wonder if troons were triggered.

I also like how the concepts progressively made the blue nerdy one more black and the hulk less black (based of the storyboard clip) bc they probably realised that might not be received well lmao

I think this might just be a general cop out for bad writing. The amount of plots I have seen in almost every type of media where the conflict would be resolved if everyone simply immediately divulged the information that have is quite a lot.

Seriously how many times have you seen a plot like:
"Bill, don't attack that car!"
"No Bob, I have to. It's got the guy who kidnapped my daughter in it!"
"No! Bill, you have to listen to me!"
[Bob destroys the car, killing his daughter who is inside]
"Bill I tried to warn you! Why didn't you listen!"
"I'll never forgive you Bob!"

If Bill had simply said "Bob don't attack that car your daughter is inside!" the situation is immediately resolved. A better writer might try to put some constraint on it, like Bob's daughter is in the passenger seat and if the sensor for the passenger airbag deactivates a bomb goes off or something.

tldr; in general bad writers have characters act dumb for the sake of the plot.

yeah you'll get a few nuts like Otomo who basically draws a full comics page, but most of the time it's just stick figures and stuff to communicate the idea of what will be drawn there
like the storyboards for the first Tenchi movie are a lot of crude humanoid shapes with the hair doodled in so you can tell who's who

Because Steven Universe. Most Western magical girl shows are just copying other Western magical girl shows. The creators have maybe slightly vague memories of watching Sailor Moon twenty years ago, but ignore them all for racially non-specific technicolor blobs in skirts.

Just call them magical tumblrs instead.
