Galaxy’s Edge opens in April at Disneyland. I’m not sure if it’s going to be a total bust or that side of the park is going to be in complete chaos.

When shit like that happens I'm marginally more sympathetic to them keeping to using IP they own free and clear.

Rock n' Roller Coaster Starring The Jonas Brothers

kinda spergy but I've been disappointed at the direction Hollywood Studios has been going lately. I loved the glitzy old movie aesthetic.

I haven't really followed any developments since "they finally got rid of the stupid hat".

I forgot that Galaxy’s Edge is doing away with Walt’s insistence that alcohol wouldn’t be sold in the park (minus club 33).

'cause that would bring in the rowdy element, according to Walt's own words.

I wonder what he would think about the tour groups from South America.

As quoted by Bob Iger :c

Is the Avatar park open yet? Is it popular? I mean it was a dead franchise before Disney started building the parks. No spin-offs of any kind, books/video games/tv, pretty much ignored after the movie was out of theaters.

Hell the only reason it was big was because it rebooted the whole 3D movies thing. If it hadn’t had that it wouldn’t have been a “thing” at all, look at how quickly it died in DVD/Bluray sales. 3D on a tv isn’t as impressive as 3D on a screen.

I haven't checked Disney's SEC filings in a couple years but I remember the parks not being all that profitable due to the huge operating costs. That was back when they were riding the ESPN gravy train though. Their movies also barely turn a profit but I guess they make it up in merch (which has huge margins.)

Anyway I will say that one of my favorite Disney movies was actually the notorious Hunchback of Notre Dame. Disney messed up with the ending half-Disneyfying it and half sticking to the source material, missing the entire theme of what they drew from. And so everyone was confused by it.

Can't wait for the weird politically correct live action remake where Quasimodo ends up with Esmeralda at the end (but not in death, like in the novel.)

I think its been open for a year and a half now and from what ive heard it is pretty popular but i think its less because its an ip themed area and more because the area is very well designed. Nobody cares about Avatar in 2019 any more than the year it came out. People remember it because bioluminescent everything instead of the Pocohantas in space story.

South American tour groups on their own are way worse than what's going to happen when Star Wars Land opens, which is nothing. It's going to be, like, 99% half interested parents who want to kick back with a beer or two, and nerds that want to kick back a few and pretend it's like the place in the movie. Epcot has served alcohol since it's opened and nothing happens there.

To be a contraditory asshole though it is possible to have an ip based ride and make it good. Indiana Jones is one of my favorite rides. But then there’s a massive difference in ip rides, for example Tower of Terror and Mission Breakout: theyre essentially the same ride but then which would you rather wait in line for? It all comes down to how much heart was put into making the ride.

Disney spergs and the people who work for them are some of the most uneducated people on the planet. They refuse to watch or read anything that isn't made by the House of Mouse. Kinda pathetic, really.

For recent rides, it's the difference between the Seven Dwarves Mine Train and Frozen Ever After. The former is a nice little ride, albeit short and the latter is a blatant merch-pushing cash grab. In all honesty, when you look at the bottom line then things like Everest would indeed be seen as a failure because very few people are interested in Everest merch and it probably would have been better for AK's profit to have the coaster be Mulan-themed or something. And also all the higher-ups hate it because Everest was a huge money sink that ended in failure, since they rushed construction and the yeti ended up slowly damaging the attraction.

You pay for a ticket to attend the park, and then once you walk in Disney tries to get as much money from you as humanly possible. That's the ~*Disney Magic*~

You are not a park guest. You are a mark. That's why Disney tries to monetize guests by having rides exit out into the gift shop area and is trying to push their IPs as hard as possible. It's easier to sell Disney IP merch than it is something like Jungle Cruise merch.

That's every theme park currently in existence. I don't know if they're the first one to do that, or if it dates back to the early days of Coney Island, but it's far from a unique thing.
