Looks like we got another Pixar movie joining Onward next year.
As Fried Shrimp said, this sounds a lot like Inside Out, will have to see how it goes in execution. Just wondering if the market can support two Pixar films considering how in both years to do this, one massively outshines the other. Will be interested to see how this goes.

Another interesting thing is that they seem to put out the lesser film first, at least in 2017, so that they don't have another situation where the second one is tainted by comparison. Could this mean that they don't have the faith in Onwards?

I wonder if this is them learning their lesson with The Good Dinosaur, although that year was a weird year for Pixar anyway because no one expected Inside Out to turn out as good as it did due to the weak marketing,

I just really miss 2D and hand drawn animation. I'm sick of 3D. The Snow Queen looked so much better in early stages.

For whatever reason I'm reminded of the sorceresess/witches from Final Fantasy 8 when I look at that picture. If only they went along with that kind of design...

Edit : Disney really needs to go back to some form of either 2D animation or some kind of Japanese anime style animation which in a way they have done by, if I'm not mistaken, purchasing the rights to Howl's Moving Castle (and Spirited Away I think). I honestly don't see why Disney doesn't just hire the Japanese (or Koreans) to do the animation for them. I mean, if Trigger could make one of the Little Witch Academia movies with some help from crowdfunding, then why shouldn't Disney take that risk?

The other thing I'll say is why doesn't Disney also not take a bit of a page from Japan's way of telling fairy-tale like stories if they want to mix things up from what they normally do? Specifically things like other Miyazaki films like say Laputa or even something similar to the the Little Witch Academia movies. Like really, what's wrong with that? They honestly should be joining forces together in this department. Just imagine stuff like this

Melissa McCarthy in Talks to Play Ursula in Live-Action ‘Little Mermaid’ (EXCLUSIVE)

https://variety.com/2019/film/news/melissa-mccarthy-little-mermaid-ursula-1203217481/ (archive)

Melissa McCarthy may be ready to help some poor unfortunate souls in Disney’s live-action version of “The Little Mermaid.”

Sources tell Variety that while the deal is not yet completed, McCarthy is in early talks to play the sea witch Ursula in the live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid.”

As Disney preps its live-action version of the undersea tale, there’s a lot of buzz about the cast. Disney and the production team behind it are looking to make contemporary and compelling casting choices, while still paying homage to the beloved animated original.

“Mary Poppins Returns” director Rob Marshall is helming. The film will incorporate the original songs from the 1989 animated hit as well as new tunes from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda is also producing the film along with Marshall, Marc Platt and John DeLuca. David Magee wrote the script.

Jessica Virtue and Allison Erlikhman are overseeing for the studio.

The original version followed a mermaid princess who sought to meet a human prince on land. Menken wrote the music, including the Oscar-winning “Under the Sea,” “Part of Your World” and “Kiss the Girl.” As for McCarthy, the multi-talented actress will get her chance at singing “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” one of the classic villain songs in the Disney archive.

Adapting classic animated pics into live-action features is a strategy that has been going strong for the studio, most recently with its live-action remake of “Aladdin,” which has grossed $820 million worldwide. The highly anticipated remake of “The Lion King” opens next month.

This will mark one of the first family-friendly roles for McCarthy, who has built her career on adult comedies including “Spy,” “The Heat” and “Bridesmaids,” which earned her an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. She was most recently seen in “Can You Ever Forgive Me?,” a dramatic turn that also earned her an Oscar nomination, this time for best actress.

McCarthy is repped by CAA and MGMT Entertainment.

Right now, Twitter is salty that a drag queen or some thicc WOC isn't being considered for the role of Ursula.

(Admittedly, I actually like the idea of a drag queen playing Ursula. After all, her character design was inspired by one. Too bad it isn't probably happening anytime soon, because MUH TRANSPHOBIA or something.)

At least McCarthy has the body type

The one time a drag queen would fit and of course the SJWs will start whining that Disney's first drag queen is a villain.

So sounds like Mushu will become a fenghuang, which is a phoenix that is the female-counterpart to Chinese dragons (which are traditionally male).

It'd be cool if it wasn't for the whole "woke" era Disney's trapped themselves into right now. Hilariously enough for woke Disney, it's a symbol of virtue and grace, still playing true to Mulan being a woman despite hiding herself as a man to join the army.

I didn't think I would find another person who would get the actual name of the "Chinese phoenix" right.

Also, I just saw Dumbo yesterday, and it somehow managed to be worse than I expected. Tim Burton is not very good with managing money, judging from the ridiculous amount of CGI and set design made for the "Dreamland" section of the movie (which takes place in a big amusement park). Pretty much all of the scenes would've worked if Dreamland was replaced by a smaller county fair. And because of the ridiculous amount of time and money spent working on that aspect of the movie, some of the other CGI sections look on par with the PS3.

More word from the Little Mermaid remake:

-Zendaya is pretty much 90% confirmed to be Ariel.

-Ursula will be played by Melissa Macarthy.

-Scuttle will be female and played by Awkafina.

-Eric they're thinking of being played by some One Direction bozo.

-And Sebastian is 70% confirmed to be Lin Manuel Miranda.

Anyone feel they're trying to "ghetto" it? Like they feel the original film is too white and problematic, so gotta change that to try to appeal to the black/hispanic audiences. It's so weird out of all the Disney properties, the one they're blackwashing so much is the Little Mermaid. Last I knew, most hispanics/blacks don't really care about that movie.

Awkafina? Somebody seriously is known as a bottle of water?

Nothing says Danish fairy tale like shameless pandering.

Christ, these remakes give me an ulcer.
