The Parks are, without a doubt, my favorite aspect of Disney these days. I had a family vacation planned for this year, too.

Seeing the words, "Closed indefinitely," makes me sad. It's pretty sobering as well, since Disney rarely ever closes their parks.

Crazy times we're living in.

It would have made me sadder years ago, back before the time when Disney stopped being 'that sentimental part of growing up' and became 'world-devouring ruthless empire'. Now I'm just feeling some mild schadenfreude. Bob Chapek must be crying himself to sleep every night knowing that when he finally ascended to the throne, he may be the last emperor as the empire falls.

I've sometimes wondered what would have happened if Eisner and Wells hadn't turned it around, and Disney had been broken up by corporate raiders back in the 80's. I imagine the parks would have been bought by Six Flags and would have just coasted along for years with no improvements or new rides, and lots of bitching about paying whomever bought the Studio and film library royalties for using those properties in the parks. But at the end of the day the parks would have gone on as fondly thought of parts of Americana and not symbols of an out of control all consuming company that underpays its employees.

I also feel a lot of fun schadenfreude over the creepy childless adult Disney theme park fans and Lion King/Robin Hood/Zootopia obsessed furries who are probably contemplating suicide over all of this, but that's not really Disney's problem, and probably belongs in another thread. :story:

I could see Disneyland going under, but Disney World going away would turn Orlando into something out of mad max.

I mean look at all the weird shit that people find in the abandoned properties around Disney World, you would have far worse shit that would rear it's head if the area becomes impoverished.

I mean Florida has a small number of wild monkeys now ever since that medical research lab burned down, everglades has a massive snake problem already.

I was under the impression that the monkeys were from an old tourist thing that stocked an island with them and then they got loose.

Well Orlando is already a quarter of the way there. So its a definite possibility.

And Disneyland would definitely be fucked more than Disney World.

But regardless, keeping it closed indefinitely is for the best. There's thousands of people practically kicking and screaming online to go back to their magic kingdom because they have nothing better to do without even caring if they die. In fact, some Disney-ites are saying they hope they get to die in the parks.

I have a feeling Corona will actually save Disney, since they'll manage to lobby the government to give them an obscene amount of cash that's way more than they actually lost due to the pandemic, while using their media dominance to rewrite history to having their bombs being due to Corona rather than lack of ability.

There's apparently a Joke going around about Colossus breathing in internet gas. He starts to slow down, freeze and seize up, which transforms him into Google Chrome.

I don't think Disney and marvel will ever live down internet gas. It's just another bright burning log on this dumpster heap. At this point releasing Song of The South on Blu-Ray would vastly improve their image.

I'd imagine Disney security is still working full time, if not more than usual.

I've only vaguely followed the scene, but I would be very surprised if the parks being closed didn't lead to a large rise of the people who break in and take pictures and videos of closed off attractions/steal old shit from them.

Okay.

I've been hearing rumors that there's a spike in influenza-like illnesses among cast members (that's what they call employees) at Walt Disney World.

Anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt, but Walt Disney World basically doesn't close for hurricanes so there's probably something up.
FML I think I got Chink AIDS from Epcot. I was there Mar. 8

I ever told you that the Disney parks are kind of an incubator for infectious diseases?

There was a measles outbreak at one a few years back.

Almost everyone who does a vacation at Disney admits that they almost always come back home with some type of bug. "Disney Bug" is a term used pretty regularly.

Based on my experiences, the Disney Parks are by and large some of the cleanest theme parks you can go to, especially Disney World. I could tell that Disneyland was not as clean as Disney World, though. Still better than a lot of other places.

I would also give a good shoutout to the Disney Cruiseline. By far the cleanest cruises I've ever been on. They literally force people to use hand wipes AND to wash their hands before entering the food area (they literally have handwashing stations). I've never seen other cruises go to those lengths to keep things clean.

That said, never underestimate how fucking disgusting people are. No matter how clean you make things, you can't entirely make up for the dumb people who lack basic hygiene.

It was definitely the right call to close everything down for now, no question.

The latest shitney reboot of the Spiderman cartoon is just ass. They want things that take years to earn way too fast.

By the end of the first season they already had venom, spidergwen, miles morales, superior spiderman, all that shit. It's just hollow.
And speaking of spidey, why not make his mask just a tiny bit harder to take off?
A little bit of velcro would buy him 10 seconds or more. Sheesh.
How would you rate the Ultimate Spider-man animated series though?

That's pretty much what I'm expecting. I wouldn't be surprised if someone actually manages to get away with stealing a famous animatronic's clothes, head, or hell maybe even the whole thing.

It was better than average. They didn't rush adding things as much as the current series and seeing the alternate spiderpeople was pretty good.

Spidey 2099 was a favorite of mine from the 90s and I would like to see a series with him.

The whole breaking the 4th wall thing is better suited for Deadpool and as good as Ryan Reynolds is, Nolan North should be the animated Deadpool.

Yes, this is a real "we're not in Kansas anymore" moment, the parks have never been closed for this long, correct?

From what I've been able to gather, no. There may be rides closed for seasonal reasons, but never the full park itself.
