Can’t ever seem to find a decent group anymore these days. Everyone plays that faggy 5th edition and when I have held my nose and tried playing it’s been nothing but one Critical Role LARP after another.

I’m sure I could find a good group online, but playing online just doesn’t feel right to me. You lose so much of what makes sitting around the table playing fun
 
Sorry for necro-posting, but at least here's something to keep in your pocket when you're at the table. I'm more partial to 3.5e, but it seems like 5th edition like open season for everyone's combat wheelchair protagonist. A friend compiled every spell accessible in DnD 5e with hyperlinks to their descriptions and sorted for ease of access. I usually use RPGBot whenever I set up a character, but it's more of a guide than anything. Don't use virtual dice if you can - unless you want stacked 20s.

I've attempted a few games myself, but that's a edge I've yet to sharpen. I'd highly recommend Kobold Fight Club if you're setting up an encounter and Roll20 or Tabletop Sim seems to be the go-to for virtual boards.

Maybe even time traveling into the future, so even if they win or lose they might randomly get lower than max hp, as they're dealing with other stuff in the game.

I didn't realize HeroQuest and Battle Masters were made by GW, now I kinda wish I kept them.

Is there another thread for games like this? I would get buggered by a bugbear if it meant I could play some AD&D 2nd edition.

I'll throw one more recommendation at you; if you like real estate type games i.e. monopoly. Pick up 'Hotels'. It pure early 90s skyscraper kino.

RPGs with randoms after it became somewhat-mainstream and in current year is probably gonna make you lose faith in humanity (but then you're on the farm, you probably seen some shit).

a boardgame via tabletop sim is probably easier to find and less infested, even tho you most likely have to use some grooming discord for that after the LGTBQ brigade got the global channel closed when they couldn't stop talking about gay shit. 4chan does some events to if you wanna deal with that, or maybe reddit..
 
If you're willing to DM just make an advertisement somewhere and vet your players accordingly. It will take some time but I have put together a couple decent tables with a minimum of faggotry, though we did play online.

I've been looking to put together another group sometime to get some more practice in as a DM, but I haven't found a virtual tabletop I really like yet.

the question is 5e or something else. doing a non-5e game already filters people a lot.

VTT depends what you need, there are some basic narrative ones who are free (rpgsessions for genesys is pretty good), otherwise foundry is having sale right now. given it's openness and it's 50 bucks for a lifetime license (-20% atm) only the GM needs to pay, although the hardware requirement and needing to host it somewhere (for a price or setting up an oracle cloud) might be too much for some players/GMs.

Yeah, 5e not being the system will filter out a majority of faggots for sure but might actually be too effective at filtering. It is all randoms seem to play.

Then again I've only really DMed 5e extensively so I suppose I'm biased.

I played 3e once when it first came out, had to be 20 years ago. I feel like I got filtered by the lack of THAC0 but it's all I knew at that point. I'd probably have to freshen up on rules no matter what so I guess I would be down to learn the "new" system.

Speaking of Non D&D systems my roommate made a complete TTRG system he has been working on for over a year now, loosely based of of pathfinder 2e. This site just went up the other day its a work in progress( still needs art and graphics but everything you need to play is there and free, in the drop down menus.

If one of you nerds actually sets up a game, I sure would like to join it. I've never played DnD though so you'd have to deal with a noob, but I've been interested in playing for some time and am 100% guaranteed to only be a faggot SOMETIMES.
