I believe he does have depression. His lifestyle, being practically socially isolated, losing friends, his looming debt and getting shitted on every day while begging for tips would be depressing for anyone. Problem is he put himself in that situation. It's not like he went through a traumatic event or had something bad happen to him that was out of his control (to be fair, there was nothing he could do though). He made all the choices that got him to where he is.
I do believe him also when he says his depression makes him do dumb shit or not see things clearly. Anyone with depression will understand that. You don't always feel like yourself. Things can feel distorted or hopeless. But I don't know anyone who acts like total cunt to everyone who tries to help them or offer advice. They might be more withdrawn. They might be irritable or have other odd behaviors. But they don't like total arrogant dickbags while also bullshitting and scamming people out of their money and then spending it on frivolous stuff. Okay sure, some people might impulse buy or be irresponsible with their money to get some short term happiness but they aren't buying multiple houses, BMWs and all kinds of other dumb ass shit. That's on another a whole other level.
I believe he has depression with all of the shit going on in his life right now. But I also think he has depression because of his guilty conscience. He knows what he's doing isn't right and he knows everything that comes out of his mouth is lies and bullshit. Problem with DSP, and where I stop giving a shit, is how he chooses to respond. A normal person would realize that they're depressed by both. Their circumstances are bad, but also that they had a hand in it and they need to make amends with that. They need to man up, accept responsibility, and then handle the consequences. DSP realizes he's both in a bad situation, and that he had a huge part in everything that happened but then rationalizes it as "No. That's not what really happened because IM THE REALEST MOTHERFUCKER ON THE INTERNET!11 and I gotta puff myself up and blame everyone else and keep da business a float blah blah blah etc etc etc".
He talks about being "a real human being". How he has "moments of weakness". To a point he's right. He doesn't seem like some evil sociopath. He's had moments of seeming like he could be a decent guy. But it's like every time you want to give the guy a chance he does some off the wall shit like ranting and insulting people. You see the person for a second, and then he panics and the facade comes right back up. As long as DSP clings to this image and narrative he has for himself, his situation is only going to get worse.
