I think if she and Bob had set an example of talking to people, then Chris would have done the same. But I don't think Barb talks to anyone unless they have something to give, she uses people until she has gotten what she wants out of them. Alas the same behaviour has been passed onto Chris.

Considering that even Chris has called Barb paranoid I tend to doubt she has any real conversations that aren't just her blaming anyone and everyone for whatever her current issue is. I sincerely doubt that even if she had people to talk to that she'd view any of them as peers. She has Chris but he isn't exactly a stimulating conversationalist so he's used more as someone to vent to or just as an echo when needed. She's pretty much in a hell of her own making. Chris is on the same path. He's more justified than Barb for being paranoid but it doesn't change the fact he's headed for the same destination.

I guess she has a couple of friends that she runs into when she goes to the supermarket or something, after all, she's not autistic...

The Chandlers are unsurprisingly full of surprises, so hell, maybe she does have some friends or loose acquaintances floating around.

ooh, you think there's a new sweetheart in her future? Omg, that would be awesome. Barb finds love for the, what, sixth time? And Chris can't even find it once. I'm a terrible person because I want this to happen.

Not one to cast aspersions on Bob or Barb's personal lives, but you'd think Chris would admit on some level that his parents don't quite codify his beliefs on love.

Sure she does. No matter what happens to it, she'll always care about the hoard.

She used to. The bugs in hoard either burned up in the fire or went packing after their kingdom burned to the ground.

You know, I've never actually thought about how Chris's belief in one everlasting love seems weird given his parents' situations.

How could he have never considered that he might get married and later divorced in his life?

It's more that he believes in a perfect love, rather than everlasting.

Whichever girl he ends up spending the rest of his life with is the one was destined to be his perfect love from the beginning. And if it doesn't last, she'll just be an ex-girlfriend like Megan and the internet galpals.

Yeah, actually. Considering Bob was a divorcee, and Barb had like 3 "husbands" and a kid from another marriage, AND the fact that Bob and Barb didn't even sleep together... Chris probably never really internalized it.

Anyway, I imagine Barb as one of those old ladies that live in my grandma's neighborhood. The kind of mean shut-ins that never leave the house except to do groceries or other small errands. I doubt she misses socializing with peers her age. All she needs is TV, and her cats/dogs/Chris. Things she can talk at but can't really talk back or converse.

Does he really believe in one everlasting love outside of lip service though? I mean, he was pretty obsessed with Ivy, and he even "cheated" on her.
