Good question, one I've never really considered before. If I were to assume, just based on my own cultural knowledge, I would think it's likely a status thing. A hunter keeps and uses pelts to honor the game he hunts. The best hunter has the most pelts, right? So, the guy with the most pelts leads the hunt. Logically, the same would apply to warriors and scalps. Except, rather than honoring the previous "owner" of the scalp it would be an act of humiliation. A sort of "I beat you, now I own a piece of you and that brings me renown." thing.

It's never really been a thing I've brought up or discussed, to be honest.

They are closely related to the Odawa and Algonquin peoples, and share many traditions with neighbouring Cree people, especially in the north and west of Ontario, and east of Manitoba. There was a fair bit of hostility shown toward dancers at Coachella in another thread and I regularly see people condemning medicine people allowing non-natives into ceremony. We need to get over such fundamentalism. It's never served Christians, Jews or Muslims well.



This year was the first time since 1991 that Easter, Passover and Ramadan all fell together in the same week. It is my prayer in this moment that the supremacist militant nationalists of all three faiths will finally get with the program and end the forever wars, beating the swords into plowshares and the spears into pruning hooks.

Notice where I said "Very close groups, yes but not the same"? Did you also know there's an entirely different culture from the two called Oji-Cree? They're a mixed descent people that's also distinct enough to warrant being its own unique culture. I'm keeping this short, because arguing with you is pointless @Miss Tommie Jayne Wasserberg. A wide majority of First Nations speak different dialects of Algonquin, and those dialects are seperate enough they count as individual languages.

You're ignorant, and you're unwilling to learn. You just want someone to say you're right. I won't because you aren't.

Tom has spent most of his life either alone or in the company of low intelligence people who never bothered to fact check his claims or prognostications because it would be more trouble then it's worth.

Even in polite society it doesn't take a genius to see he's a mentally unstable individual and it's far easier to just "uh huh Tom, that's right." then trigger a bout of tard rage.
