The Doom Patrol vol 1 TPB is on amazon prime right now, so i figured I would read it, even if I'm not all that into Grant Morrison. Is this basically like Watchmen? Are these all new characters, or is it like a suicide squad type thing? How would you sell Doom Patrol to a Marvel comic book fan, completely unfamiliar with the lore? But who loves superhero team storylines.

If you like superhero teams I think you'll definitely get a kick out of it. Morrison's run was good, but definitely no where near what Watchmen delivers. I think if you're a fan of X-Men, specifically Joss Whedon's "Astonishing" run, then you'll enjoy it.

The Doom Patrol have been around since the mid 60's (funnily enough, they debuted around the same time as the X-men, whom they're usually compared to). Robotman, Elastic Woman and Negative Man were the original 3 then added Beast Boy (who'd later join the Teen Titans). Crazy Jane is from Morrison's run and each of her personalities has a different ability. This adaptation now adds Cyborg (who is normally a Titans/Justice League character) into the roster.

Yea I like X-men, but I could do without the million love arcs.

Hmm. I didn't know that. Crazy Jane reminds me of Moon Knight. I'm surprised they're adding Cyborg... since for the longest time the CW DCTV universe was banned from introducing characters WB had plans for including in their movies. Then again, I've seen better animated DC movies these days than actual cinematic movies.

Robotman looks fucking cool in the thumbnail and I'm gonna watch this trailer later. What I wanna know is why the hell DC feels the urge to stick Cyborg in everything. I like Cyborg but I'd rather they save him for a good Teen Titans adaptation than treat him like a glorified diversity hire.
I'm assuming it's because he's the closest thing to Iron Man DC has. Also with mo-cap suits it's probably cheaper to do his CGI (prosthetics in this case).. where as John Stewart GL, would be more expensive to do. I don't really know what i'm talking about...

Also we not gonna mention... brendan fraser is in this?

It at least looks better than Titans.

I watched all of Titans, there is an entire episode that is pretty much just a trailer for Doom Patrol and it is legitimately the best part of the season. It only has Robot Man, Elastic Girl, and Negative Man, and I think a different actor (at least very different appearance) playing Chief. Despite half the cast being in full body suits, they had way better charisma and acting than the Titans cast.
