DOOM

My biggest complaint so far is that the Melee Combo doesn't stun things hard enough, I will hit something with a Demon Burst, they will stun..and if I do the full melee combo they recover from the stun mid way through the Combo.

I am kind of fine only using the first hit to get in some damage but it was really noticeable in the stage where you gotta do 3 full combos for the mastery bonus.
Haven't really messed with the Melee that much so far, only on level 4 currently so I haven't been really forced into messing with it either.

Also Shot gun is fucking OP, burning enemy exploding + low tier enemy instantly getting burn is hilarious.
This seems to be a pretty common statement, haven't upgraded the shotgun that much, and I doubt I will because as soon as I get the SSG I'm sticking with it the whole way through.

The Final boss is fucking lame, lamer than Evil Doomguy from Eternal.
I will agree on this end. Having it be the Cyberdemon and not even the Mastermind like Doom 1 (which it was trying to be a remake of if anything) sucks. Worse yet it goes against the "shoot at it until it dies" trend in favor of "shoot the low-level enemies that are no threat to you whatsoever 3 times and THEN shoot the cyberdemon"

Maledict was a better final boss, but not by much. Doom as a series has never done well with boss fights past the 1st game, and those enemies are just regular enemies at this point.

Evil Doomguy isn't a bad idea on paper, and it shouldn't have been hard to make good in practice either. Just make him Quake Deathmatch bot.

What, the Cyberdemon? Yeah he got done dirty in Doom 3, though I honestly think they just ran out of ideas of how to make boss fights because you can cheese almost every boss fight in Doom 3. (Sarge being one-shot by BFG is never not hilarious.)
You don't have access to the BFG by that point, unless I'm mistaken. though if you mean shooting his BFG ball with a rocket than yes. The only boss you can't really cheese is the Vagary since your options for weaponry are limited by that point even if you picked up the Martian Buddy chain gun.

Beat the first 5 or so chapters tonight. Don’t really like how the Glory kills have devolved into “one punch enemy to bits”. I liked all the unique animations from the first two games. I’ve only got two unique kills so far. I’m assuming this was done to improve the flow of combat.

So how is the new game? 2016 was fantastic, but Eternal was too convoluted for its own sake. I also worry it will be too much melee focused.
I don't feel it's too melee focused, NuID wants you to use all the tools at your disposal. It works with Dark Ages because they have streamlined things. I'm so glad they just let you use whatever weapon you damn well want to. Doom Eternal was only fun at lower difficulties.

For me I just need to accept that NuDoom is NuDoom and not a continuation of Doom 1/2. If you want a spiritual successor to classic Doom play Prodeus it's a fantastic game. Classic Doom in its mechanics is an arcade game, John Romero was inspired by Robotron. When I play Doom I intuitively know how many shotgun blasts it takes to kill a Pinky Demon or how many rockets to blow up a Cyberdemon. That's not the case with any of the NuDooms, sometimes I die repeatedly and then beat it and I don't really know what I did right to progress. I find that annoying because I'm used to NuDoom. But if you just enjoy it for what it is it's fun. I don't feel gypped paying $10 for Xbox Game Pass this month. I'll probably play this for the next two weeks then try Indiana Jones before cancelling.

I'm liking TDA more than Eternal. One detail that's really neat is the weight of the slayer moving around and jumping, and it's really fun to use the shield to kill all the fodder and get close to enemies like the meathook in Eternal.

BFG edition is a terrible "remaster" and it should be removed from store shelves, but I digress.

Doom3 isn't for everyone. If you aren't a sucker for just stopping and taking in atmosphere than yeah it sucks. I don't play Doom3 for the shooting I can tell you that much.

I don't think it even did atmosphere that well, not compared to, say, Unreal or Half-Life 2, because it never really evolves past creeping down darkened tech corridors.

Must be a lot of /v/tards on here since people have been pissing and shitting themselves for years about getting filtered by Eternal.
I got filter'd hard by Eternal at release and didn't finish it, then came back to it a few years later and it completely clicked for me. Almost perfect blend of 2016's rhythm, with quasi-character action mechanics and balancing meter basically with the chainsaw. Once you get past having to be efficient with ammo, and understand how the enemy weapon weaknesses sync with the enemy encounters and ammo/chainsaw fuel placement in the stages, it all comes together for a really satisfying, fast-paced, and challenging game. The only part that I still think is asking a little too much of the player are the Marauders with their invincibility outside of brief window you're supposed to shoot them. You get the hang of it, and you better by the time the DLC is throwing multiple of them at you at once along with a whole arena of other demons, but it does get to a point with then that the game is asking you to juggle a few too many things at once imo.

From what I'm reading TDA seems to go in a completely different direction, which honestly is a little disappointing, I really appreciated the ADHD-core tempo of Eternal.

I think the Marauder would have been nice as like a boss instead of an enemy that shows up again and again. I don't like the strict rules of engagement and hate how fodder projectiles make him bring up his shield and summon the wolf.

I also hate how if you kill the wolf immediately, it resummons it again just to fuck with you. There's a point where something moves from test of skill to just there to annoy you.

I still played a fuck ton of Eternal tho.

Few levels in and it's fine so far. There is definitely an increased emphasis on parries and melee attacks, but the gunplay is as focused and fun as the previous two games.

I am pondering my experience so far and i wonder if they are trying to make the two hardest difficulties a bit more attractive with shorter stages and more 1 ups.

Great game but they really should have brought back fast travel from Doom Eternal for secret hunting because these levels are huge and there are times where you can't backtrack. Also, very curious on how the post launch support will look. Eternal had events so you could earn cosmetics but without having a multiplayer to show them off I don't think that will be the main focus this time. Maybe new modes like a horde mode with leaderboards?

Better question is why you arent skipping the cutscenes
Cause they are fine.

The Doom(16 and beyond) plot is passable.

Sam Hayden is someone i love seeing Doomguy shit on at every point.
Vega was a bro
and The King not liking Doomguy because Doomguy is an unstable ball of violence..is like Ya know. Reasonable.

and King man's daughter having her chain mail panties so wet for Doomguy they are starting to rust is incredibly reasonable because chicks should be throwing them at Doomguys feet.
