DOOM

People hate Doom 3s shotgun, hate the monster closets and hate having to pick between holding a flashlight or a gun (atleast they fixed this.)

Honestly the whole monster closet thing didn't feel that bad. It made a certain amount of sense because early on you see tech guys working in the walls of the station. In any case it was rare enough to be overtaken by teleportation and good enough at scaring the shit out of me that id say it did it's job.

Now the shotgun in VR is an interesting case.
I don't know if they buffed it's damage and accuracy ( I was playing on normal), but they balanced the scare factor well with it. Its high damage and accurate enough to kill anything. But the low fire rate and lack of laser sight actually makes it less preferable to play with then a machine gun at times.

The expansion super shotgun is OP but requires you to go up a demons ass. Needless to say that is undesirable in VR. Only used it on archviles

I've played about 6 levels so far. I think this is gonna be one where you really need to fuck with the modular difficulty to get the game to feel how you want. I'm liking it so far but it hasn't clicked yet. I had the same thing with Eternal so I'm not gonna judge it yet. I do like the parry/melee system but due to not having a desk setup I'm having to play with a controller and the button mapping is fucking me up. It does feel better than eternal on a controller though, and Eternals keybinds still fuck me up every once in a while. Only thing other than the gimmick levels I don't like so far is the weapon swapping speed and how you can't buffer nearly as many inputs as it feels you should be able to.

The mechanics of this game are fun, but there's no depth or thought in any of it. You just press the shield button when there's green and choose to follow up with a gun or melee hit. Weapon choice doesn't seem to matter at all, unless it's a shield guy.

I guess they may have tried catering hard to the people who hated Eternal because you had to think a tiny bit about what you're using. I will never forget how hard that game filtered people. all the /v/ tards who for years bitched about 2 weapon limits and slow games. Got jammed up by a modern Doom game.

You're supposed to call anything new "SLOP", you didn't get the memo.
Absolute everything that has come out in the past 9 years is slop. No exceptions.

The irony of this is that I don’t like most new films yet still have an appreciation when something good is made.
Petition to add Kiwislop to the list.
Thanks for coming up with that name. I’m going to refer to these idiots as Kiwisloppers from now on.
Imo, every time I see someone saying Doom was a horror game it feels like that Spongebob meme.
Doom is an action game. You could’ve made it about almost anything with that same gameplay loop and people would like it. ChexQuest is a prime example.
Sure it scared kids, but guess what, so did the Piano in Super Mario 64.
I was more scared of the witch from Banjo-Kazooie than I was of the old Doom games.

Well, its from 2011, but considering that Space Marine 2 and Duke Nukem Forever came out the same year with
You know, the funny thing is, even without the BFG Edition's extra ammo, by the late game you get so much plasma, and the chainsaw is so good against enemies as long its only one of them, that you dont even need to use the shotgun on the second half, besides the 2 times where the game remove all your guns and force you to collect again.

Looking at gameplay from the The Dark Ages led to me having a schizo theory: If they ever reboot Quake, it's going to be in the same universe, but after Eternal.

. if you've never played it play it in VR
Shame my vision is too fucked for VR, I tried playing Doom 2016 VR on a friend's house once, and I couldnt last more than 5 minutes under the googles.

Also, Zero Master already released his TDA Nightmare video, 10 hours compared to his 4 hour Doom 2016 Nightmare, and around 10 hours too for Eternal on his first attempt. Zero Master seem to be the first guy to release full videos on 2016, Eternal and TDA too. Guess in some months he will finish it in like 3 hours.

I would watch if I didnt cared about being spoiled on gameplay.

got the new game game for free with my graphics card and so far I think I like the style of combat more than eternal, it feels satisfying comboing the melee attacks with animation canceling the super shotgun to quickly burst tough demons, I've heard some people have had major performance issues but it runs at a solid framerate on my admittedly very high end rig

I watched a bit of Zeromaster's run. And it doesn't look too bad in terms of gameplay. However, I can't get over how yellow paintish the reflect prompts are. It just really takes you out of it when you see a green fireball that screams at you: "MEET ME AND REFLECT ME!!!!!!!"

I'm waiting for a sale. I'm waaaaay past the get excited for release phase of my gaming life. Not that I was ever big on that.

Also, I never understand why companies don't actually hire gamers with actual skill to show off the potential of the gameplay.

All I'm going to say is if it was so fucking tedious and boring, Eternal wouldn't have twice as many players on Steam as 2016.
The market has spoken.
If the market has spoken, why has Dark Ages changed the combat to be the complete opposite of Eternal's? Why change what wasn't broken?

Must be a lot of /v/tards on here since people have been pissing and shitting themselves for years about getting filtered by Eternal.

considering giving this a go as I thoughly enjoyed 2016, heard there were some people that didn't like the melee is any of that true or is it literally just the subtitle of the game filtering people out ?

probably because they consciously wanted to make each game play differently, when you play it it’s very obvious they wanted to evoke an entirely different feeling

Dude I'm a guy who's pretty good with VR. They fucked 2016 up. Something feels wrong with it and I would wager it has to do with the fact it feels like you have a third hand every time you throw a grenade or use a gun. That shit really threw me off and made it unplayable for me.
