DOOM

There is a learning curve and I do agree in the beginning of the game, ammo management is a pain, so having to constantly chainsaw kill is a bit annoying. Though as the game goes on, especially when you get your weapon upgrades, and gauge your personal playstyle, it begins to translate very nicely. I played on Nightmare mode and I will have to say that the level of challenge is a nice change in the industry. It never feels cheap, it all is skill, and how well you understand the Doomslayers tool set.

For me the ammo management feels a lot better as I get better at swapping between single shot weapons; the more I distribute between ammo types the more efficient and less disruptive the chainsaw breaks are. In that regard the changes to the assault rifle's scope were a real game changer; firing a single shot weapon then quickly swapping to a different weapon to circumvent the passive reload is one of the best carryovers from 2016; turning a superheavy into swiss cheese by firing off four separate weapons in the span of 5 seconds is ridiculously satisfying.

Also, I love that cracking sound when you fire from the scope.

They apparently are doing a preview on Monday, so we'll probably know by then.

So, DOOM 1, 2, 64, 3, and Eternal have all been added to Xbox GamePass thanks to Bethesda getting acquired.

DOOM (2016) doesn't seem to be part of it yet for some reason, but all these titles are permanent additions.

I think DOOM 2016 is on PSnow at the moment, which is probably the reason, same for The Evil Within 2. I've been having a ton of fun playing DOOM64 since I've never played it before. Probably the best feeling chaingun in the series if you ask me.

Bethesda accidentally leaked the teaser trailer. Someone archive before it gets removed, don't ask me to because I'm retarded.
Edit: Or maybe it's a teaser for a teaser? I can't speak Gabagool but the ending card seems to be that the full teaser will be on the 17th.

Looks cool but like a few others have said, I'm starting to wonder why they're choosing to wrap this all up in a DLC rather than a proper third game. Just hope it doesn't feel rushed because of it.

Unless it has some sort of twist at the end that'll lead into a third game...

You're taking on the Dark Lord of Hell. Unless he somehow manages to win, I'd say this is as conclusive as it gets.

After this, they'll either have to do a soft reboot like 3, or do a full reboot in a new continuity.

I have Game Pass Ultimate. I think they're on the Cloud as well.

It'll give me a chance to experience old and new DOOM. I heard Doom is not an easy shooter.

I'm about halfway through the second episode of the original on medium difficulty, and it's not that hard.

Don't stay in one place and you'll be fine, the hardest part would probably be not knowing where to go at times.

It's not linear?

The levels are certainly maze-like, but the game has a handy automap. If you're playing on most source ports the automap will even display color-coded doors so you can quickly see if you have the right keycard or not. Really, the important thing is to maintain a sense of spatial awareness. As long as you pay attention to where you are and make good use of the automap, you'll be fine. Some levels are definitely worse than others though in terms of branching paths, especially in Episode 2.

One of the major reasons is probably the previous criticism of Doom 2016 for not having single player DLC. Almost all the post launch DLC for 2016 was multiplayer-oriented, id probably decided that wasn't a good look for a single player oriented game. And really, Bethesda games in general tend to have DLC that rivals the base game in scope.

There are always more demons. The Bible establishes that Satan has a fuck ton of lieutenants and archdemons ready to step up if something happens and if it's canon in real life it's probably canon in DOOM as well.

To add on to this, OG Doom follows the philosophy of boomer shooters, where they simply dump you into a level, and lets you explore to your heart's content. Technically, your goal is to simply reach the exit, but otherwise, the game doesn't hold your hand. You can explore as much or as little you want, but you'll probably be missing out on items, etc.

Oh, and there are some levels with exits to secret levels, but some of them are notoriously obscure to a first-timer, so don't feel bad if you don't get them.

Is it just me, or does The Ancient Gods kinda suck? I know I'm making a bit of a snap decision here, I haven't even beaten the first level yet, but in that first level, I've had more demons spawn on top of me and more fall-respawns into the middle of a gang of assholes then I encountered in the entire base game - And the base game isn't great with spawning in the first place. I went from being totally pumped that I managed to defeat the Icon of Sin without calling in sentinel armor to alt-F4ing in abject frustration in less than an hour, and I died WAY more versus the Icon. Something about this level is just antifun to me.

Eternal's got a learning curve to it, and that's what trips most people up. It's got way more resource management than 2016 did, to the point the chainsaw's basically mandatory if you want to maintain your ammo. It also starts a bit slow because your ammo pool at the beginning is pretty low and you don't have any of the useful abilities like the ice bomb or dash. Once you get more weapons, increase your ammo pool, and upgrade some abilities, the game really starts to pick up and the game's intensity puts 2016 to shame. The middle to the end game is some of the best action I've seen in a shooter.

It really is a game that you have to give a little time and actually learn how it functions. It lacks the pick-up-and-play aspect of 2016, but its skill ceiling feels a lot more satisfying to reach. It's not gonna be for everyone, but at the same time learning how it works and pulling it off was immensely gratifying for me.

I'm at the point of the game where I assume you'll get the BFG, and holy shit, that feeling where everything finally clicks for me in terms of gameplay is something else.

Before I was really struggling beyond the ice world. Not sure if I was just having an off day, but the difficulty spikes around the Doom Hunter fight. I found myself dying dozens of times, but when I finally got some good power weapons and upgrades, as well as getting used to using grenades, I suddenly became a killing machine.

Helped that "The Only Thing They Fear Is You" is such an amazing track to fight to.
