DOOM

The dragon and the robot sections seem to be halfbacked, the first one because the breath attack is mostly limited to Glory kills, the latter because the robot seemingly shares code with the dragon sections, which means that the big, stompy, clunky robot can side-step attacks rather than stopping them with a shield, kek (for extra hilarity, you DO fight giants with shields)..

Zero Master posted again on TDA, this time it was 3 hours shorter.

Remember when the only characters that mattered in the game was Doomguy(not this reddit "DOOM SLAYER" bullshit) and his Super Shotgun?
JUST MAKE A NEW IP AT THIS POINT
If you want your dragons and your armored knights fighting armies of hell, go for it. Leave Doomguy out of it, tho, he should never be part of this sloppy Marvel Cinematic Universe bullshit nu-Doom is trying to pull.

You should ask YouTube.

Looks like 1080p native is a little much, but a little help from DLSS gets it over 60 fps.
Unfortunately my monitor is 1440 native, but at least on the bright side with how returns have diminished on visual quality these days I'm not missing out on anything by turning everything down to the lowest settings.

You can thank Doom 3 for it.
Doom 3 didn't even have any major characters in it, that was my point. Oh sure, you had Emperor Palpatine as the "villain" and a few minor characters, but none of them mattered. Now, you have a whole set of characters that nobody gives a shit about, and Doomguy is just caught in the middle killing demons like he always does, trying to ignore it like the average player is.
iD clearly has a vision. Just make a new IP and go full ham on your stupid characters and lore so that it doesn't weight Doom down. The cutscenes, the character, the worldbuilding, the dialogue, all of this falls flat on it's face when you're putting it in a fucking Doom game. Remember when in Doom 2016 the game tried shoving exposition down Doomguy's throat, and he just smashed the monitor or whatever like an angry gorilla? You would think these devs would have a bit of self awareness afterwards.

I kind of miss glory kills, I liked seeing the animation work and I can't help but wonder what they would have been able to do with the new weapons. I'm not very far, just past the first Mech sequence. I can definitely see the mech sequences being lame on a replay, and I was hoping for some over the top glory kill animations in the mech at least. I can't shake that the audio mixing just seems off for home theater setups. Coming from any other game everything is terribly quiet, and there's absolutely no Bass to anything on the subwoofer. I see people say how bassy the mech section was elsewhere and I feel nuts. Maybe it's an Xbox issue.

but none of them mattered.
Kelly, Swann and Elizabeth in RoE matter.
Really, Doom 3 is the start of it, with the game going on his way to indicate you are the reincarnation of the Martian Hero and all, instead of just a guy. The new games just picked up and exagerated, like how the problems in Duke Nukem Forever were already on 3D, but the devs turned them to eleven.

But really, I find funny people being surprised the cast is woke when Quake 3 already had it, with some 2 fat women and all, again, all that happened is that now its more evident, but it was on the start.

the game is initially “heavy” but if you can achieve at least 60 fps it will stay absolutely rock solid, I didn’t have a single stutter in the roughly 15 hours it took me to finish the story which is quite impressive
Good to know, I got some shutter in some heavy games like Metro Exodus, so I was worried it would run poorly.

"Duke 3D is le bad because Duke Nukem Forever came right after"
"Nu-Doom being woke is fine because Quake 3 is "woke"(lol)
Never mind, I am talking to a retard

Why did they bother putting all the cinematic gimmicks into the game? It's fucking Doom, you don't need any of this shit.

Dark ages got rid of a lot of it, unless you count the mech sections and I've only played the first one and I thought it needed more variety I'm curious how the later ones are. Haven't done any dragon stuff yet.

The only real kill animations are the rare ones where you run and sprint and jump with the shield and melee, and when you kill a mob leader and get a health or armor upgrade (uncommon). Flashing enemies aren't glory killed anymore, you simply kick them and they die. It's very unceremoniously done and feels a bit low effort to me, but it's not a locked in animation. Even the mech doesn't really have anything. I personally thought eternals glory kills were so fast especially with the one upgrade that it never broke the flow of the game. You were constantly moving in that game and so a short locked animation to take like a second long break in between it all was well done.

Also it may be a UI option but the weapon wheel on this one sucks. It feels unresponsive and the color coding of eternals enabled faster switching without having to look at the wheel.

Anyone here tried Prodeus? I heard its pretty good as far boomer shooters go, being closer to the older experience than the more "please use our skill system" type shooters that got popular.

Prodeus is a fun little gem. It's very Doom aesthetically and has decent level layouts and secret placement. The visual style kinda turned me off of it because it's very pixelated and has a "fried" look to it.

Glory kills are still in the game they just made the very odd decision to make them aerial takedowns only. Try jumping on an enemy and you'll see them trigger.

Going into settings and changing enemies from sprites to 3D models really helps with this immensely. There's still some of that "fried" look but I thought it was night and day. It's not like the option is super hard to find but I recall it being very slightly buried, it doesn't advertise itself.

I don't know why developers intentionally uglify their games. Cultic, which I thought overall was fantastic, was a bad offender too. I can't remember what the option was exactly but it was turned on by default and made it look like total fucking garbage.

IMO of course, this is all supremely subjective, but I'll never understand it. Except chromatic aberration. I don't care what anyone thinks, I want whoever started that to be beheaded immediately.

I just finished the game and despite having some major issues with it, I enjoyed it overall. I think my biggest problem with the game is that there's really no reason to ever switch weapons. The super shotgun and the chainshot are just so much better than everything else, and you always have ammo so there's never any reason to switch it up. If you do decide to switch, you can't use your parry for like 3 seconds so you just get fucked on anything above normal difficulty.

The game also just stops introducing new stuff like 3/4ths of the way into it, so it starts to get really repetitive. Really felt like it needed a couple more demon types to keep things interesting.

The final boss was really fucking cool, but then there's a completely unnecessary level right after it. Just... Why? You had a perfect finale and then just ruined it with another level that doesn't do anything fresh or new.

I know it sounds like I'm shitting on the game, but I did enjoy it. The aesthetics and setpieces are really cool, and I like all the weapons even if I didn't use a lot of them much. People don't seem to like the dragon levels but I thought they were really cool. There's a really neat sense of scale where you're flying around these massive levels and then landing to do on-foot stuff. I liked all the levels in the squid dimension too, those were probably my favorite.

Prodeus is great, BUT, it has a completely retarded save system where you just respawn whenever you die and all the enemies stay dead. There's zero punishment for dying and it completely ruins the game. They're supposedly fixing it when the dlc comes out but it's been two years without any updates so I dunno. I'd wait before purchasing it.

Gotta have that 1993 aesthetic of everything being pixellated to shit beyond 10 yards! And no, we don't offer 4:3 resolution options, that's too advanced!
