-Guncaster: You are a man-dragon with oversized guns and Bioshock style offhand spellcasting. Lots of inventory management, buyable upgrades, altfires on altfires, equippable mech suits, summons, dual wielding, and all other manner of craziness. You will get OP fast. Works with DOOM, Heretic, Hexen, and Strife. Mod creator is also very blatantly a huge Command and Conquer fan and you will see that with certain parts of the arsenal.
The same author also made a mod called Trailblazer which lets you play as someone who looks like the Punisher but it's less edgy, more gun porn-y.You smoke a lot of cigs but somehow instead of dying via cancer you get stronger. It's compatible with Heretic and Hexen if I'm not mistaken. Also it's American as fuck at some points since you get weapons that can fire for a long time and add rock music while you fire it if you want to, you can have uzis that you can upgrade to spew red, white and blue fireworks. And there's this:

Trailblazer is one of my favorite weapon mods and I sometimes use it along with Colourful Hell. Of course, let's not forget Russian Overkill.

the nu-dooms and wolfensteins aren't really that moddable either so all of their replayability falls flat on it's face, not to mention that these games have online mode shit, nu wolfestein has those raid-like things for more useless shit/achievementfaggotry rather than stuff that could be interesting.
They did add mod support to Eternal, but I haven't heard much buzz over it probably due to it coming out years afterwards. Seems like there is a modding community, albeit not a large one, actively making new levels.

modding doom eternal is literally only for the uber quickswapping twitch pros that still play that game, its like if all DOOM wads were just variations of slaughter.

Also, whats the actual problem with Graf now? All I know is that there was AI code somewhere (who cares? if he didn't feel like writing a bunch of filler, may as well right? GZDOOM already runs like ass, no harm no foul) and trannies are mad about it.
Is that literally it? Is there any reason to be particularily mad at graf for anything? All I know is that he's a sperg with a short fuse that runs the most successful/normie friendly sourceport that makes people more interested in doom modding than they otherwise would have been. If not for GZDOOM, idk how alive modding would still be.

trannies are "averse" to AI even if they might use it to "vibe code" but they will 41% before admitting that or else they lose their brownie points.

Eternal's mod tools have a high barrier of entry. The initial install itself is over 200 GB(not including any level assets), and you need a fairly beefy PC to even run it.

PCgamer is astroturfing the "schism"

I thought "Doom" 2016 was alright, but never really felt like replaying it at all. Even more so with Eternal (and Dark Ages I don't even care). I'm not sure what it is about them. Maybe it's nostalgia for the old Doom games, but I can just play them over and over, and there are so many mods I've yet to play!
For me, it’s Classic Doom’s tendency to create combat puzzles, traps, and the general simplicity of it.

Nu Doom is a lot closer to character action games due to your increased movement and loadout options. To balance this they expanded the bestiary and made them much beefier. But now, in order to play at a competent level (on even Ultra Violence) you have to play in a more combo oriented mentality.

Compared to Classic, which really tests your tactical thinking more than anything else. Aiming, movement, and resource management are important as well, but enemy behavior plus map geometry is fundamentally much simpler. Therefore, you get by through being smart more than practiced with combos.

That is to say, Nu Doom isn’t bad. It’s just a very different beast, and for my part, much more accessible.

This gzDoom vs UZDoom situation is quite a shitshow

The chicken headmaster is a sperg by himself and Im not a personal fan of AI (tho Im not going to throw a tantrum over it like a retard) but the fact the code wasnt tested at all and this being his first contribution in a while really paints a bad image. I dont even feel like this is because of AI necessarily, I think the whole crew was just waiting for something to light up the powder keg and this was it. And those default settings are still garbage. But he does piss off trannies and doesnt seem to be the biggest fan of pronuns nonsense so there is that.

The UZDoom crew all seem to be motivated by a lot of spite and Im not a fan how a lot of them are trying to turn this into a political issue (because of course) by throwing terms like "chud" unironically. Im going to throw the good faith argument here and say that they truly want to pull a "With blackjacks and hookers" situation and make a new and improved GzDoom (and fair enough, changing those shit defaults settings already won quite a lot of people over). But I do notice that modders, tranny modders at that, tend to have an enlarged ego and a LOT of projects fall into petty internal conflict when they arent constantly agreeing 100% on everything (I cant begin to list the number of fan projects that died or had their progress screech to a halt after trannies practically took over it). I also hope they arent going to try to insert their politics into UZDoom, not sure how they would but Im sure they woud find a way (and probably throw a tantrum when people ask them not to do that or make mods to change it). Remember, they cant help themselves, they never can. Time will tell if it will run well at all.

So pretty much, this whole tale is a good reminder the modding scene is a fucking digital open asylum

Did Dark Ages flop/underperform? Seems like virtually all discussion died like 72 hours after release.

It did well enough they are releasing DLC and have several rebalancing updates already. Maybe they are in it for the long haul if it underperformed?

It may very well be that raw sales no longer matter and the only thing companies care about is the amount of people playing it. Subscription services have changed business models significantly and I imagine what they're looking at is how many subscribers they gain and maintain within a certain window after a particular game launches or releases new DLC.

Either that or it just provides a smokescreen until investors figure out that playercount is not the same thing as units sold.

It failed to break 2016's peak concurrent players which is indescribably pathetic, especially how badly they've been hyping it up. Maybe Hugo will finally realize that people don't buy Doom for THE EPIC DOOM SLAYA but for the gameplay.

They got both the gameplay and the maps right on 2016. I wish they'd go back to that instead of pushing for this cringeworthy netherealm studios x mavel cinematic universe plotline.

The maps were still more linear than they should have been with the notable exception of level 2. That, lack of modding support, and utterly gamebreaking endgame exploits were the only real issues I had with it.
