Before 2016 troons were nearly invisible on Doomworld. Most of the stupid shit you can find about that old era was mostly internal forum drama, bad mapping habits, Terry Wads spam, unfunny Joke Wads, power tripping mods (those always existed since the inception of forums) and so on. All that stuff was not that important, because back in ye olde days there were still popular alternative communities like NewDoom. The popularity of Doom (2016) made the fandom spiral out of control and Leddit faggots, little kids, streamers and whatever else kind of scum they brought with them swarmed into Doomworld and turned it into what it is today. Browse through pre-2016 discussions on Doomworld and you'll notice quite a lot of civil and informative topics with a few shitposts here and there. There's probably a ton of different factors I forgot to mention. Even the old and barely edited Encyclopedia Dramatica article for Doom doesn't feature a lot of stuff that could be considered "fanbase-destroying happenings".

Of course I could be a total fucking retard and you may know stuff I don't know, then please enlighten us on terrible stuff that happened before 2016, which turned Doomworld into the irredeemable shithole it is today.

There might be a few exceptions to the rule, but most of the stuff that comes out after a development hell, is garbage. I bet he's going to try to combine a classic FPS with a bunch of shitty modern trends. He should just stick to making Doom maps for the rest of his life.

Blackroom was the failed Kickstarter FPS.

I see, this is where my confusion stems from. Blackroom was announced 8-9 years ago, and i was under the impression he's "working" on it to this day. I'm suprise that him and Adrian Carmack failed to raise the funds, but just checking out that kickstarter page, it looks to me that he had another retarded overambitious idea. It's almost Daikatana 2.0 in a way. A simulation room that is glitching, causing different simulations to blend together, and levels that vary from sci-fi, to haunted houses, to fucking western towns? Sounds like a shitty mish-mash of themes, with the Assassasin's Creed gimmick added to it. Get that shit out of there! I guess the people saw he was being over his head again and decided to keep their money. Whatever this new game he's currently working on is, he should either commit to a fucking theme and try to do it right, or not bother at all. Just like i mention in the previous post, he will try to mix the old with some new experimental crap, and he'll fail again, just like he did with Daikatana.

I remeber he dropped a thread on Troonworld 2-3 years ago, about this "new FPS", looking to hire mappers, or programers. Now i'm looking for this thread but i can't find it, it's not on his profile either. Was it actually a tweet? Whatever it is, i hope he doesn't hire a bunch of fags from Troonworld to make the levels... not that these useless imbeciles can work with any other editor than the baby proof UDB, but still, have your fingers crossed.
 
Romero won't ever release anything other than overpriced milquetoast Doom WADs that will get sucked off to hell and back just because b-b-but it was made by John Romero! He has NOTHING interesting to show that Troonworld hasn't already done. Doom and its sourceports surpassed their creators, it's just over.

It's really tiring to see this level of celebrity worship in Doom community. John Romero is and always has been an idea faggot, not a surprise that nowadays he is a gas station worker. Carmack was the one responsible for making Doom smooth, impressive and as popular as it is. Sandy was responsible for giving us fun dungeonlike layouts. It perplexes me how this community is chock-full of coding trannies yet all of them prefer to wank over Romero's hackjobs rather than Carmack's genius. Then again, perhaps because of their distorted views on what social roles are they view Romero as some kind of a "charismatic" father figure who will always be superior to them in a patronizing way.

They might've surpassed the originals, but all in the wrong areas, just like modern games surpassed old ones in graphics and detail, but fell short on gameplay. I can pick up and blast through Knee-Deep in the Dead any day of the week, and have loads of fun. It might be easy by today's standards, but the fun factor will always be there, and whoever denies that, doesn't understand this game. The same goes for episode 2, partially 3 and 4, and most of the maps in Doom 2. A lot of fags on Troonworld can't even make something as simple and entertaining as Episode 1, yet they already claim to be better than Romero and co., just because they can make a map with 50 000 linedefs that plays like absolute dogshit. What they fail to understand is that the only thing they're good for is virtual lego, not level design.

I don't see Romero being worshiped on Troonworld, if anything, they're indirectly disrespecting him at any given opportunity, by underestimating, or completely disregarding his mapping philosophy of fast-paced, no-nonsense gameplay progression and instead worship these piece of shit, unplayable, repetitive, boring ass wads, like Necromantic Thirst, Formless Mother, Firefly, Umbra and their ilk.

The soul of Doom, particularly those original 3 episodes, is the arcade. The guys who made Doom grew up playing arcade games, so that kind of blazing fast, reflexive, demanding gameplay was instinctive to them. They took what was intuitive to them and built upon it, reworked it, and reinvented in 3D. If you all you ever play is Doom, which is all Troonworld mappers play, then you won't actually get it. It's kind of like how JRR Tolkien drew on a wealth of history, myth, and personal experiences to create Lord of the Rings, while fantasy authors who know nothing other than other fantasy novels write awful dreck. In other words, if you want to make great Doom maps, spend some time playing Berserk and Galaga.

He really gives off the vibes of an absolute cunt, with no life, whose position as a moderator on a forum of a video game is the only thing he has going in his miserable existence.
