Dozens of people have died after a passenger plane crashed with 67 people on board in Kazakhstan, local officials say.

Authorities in Azerbaijan, where the flight originated, say there were at least 30 survivors.

Azerbaijan Airlines flight J2-8243 caught fire as it attempted to make an emergency landing near the Kazakh city of Aktau.

The plane was en route to Grozny in Russia but it was diverted due to fog, the airline told the BBC.

Video verified by Reuters news agency shows the plane heading towards the ground at high speed, with its landing gear down.

Seconds after it seems to attempt to land, a huge fireball erupts.

The airline said the plane "made an emergency landing" about 3km (1.9 miles) from Aktau.

It took off from the Azerbaijani capital Baku at 03:55 GMT on Wednesday, and crashed around 06:28, data from flight-tracking website Flightradar24 showed.

There were 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board the Embraer 190 aircraft, the transport ministry said.

Those on board were mostly Azerbaijani nationals, but there were also some passengers from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Out of the 25 known survivors, 22 were taken to hospital, the emergency ministry said.

Unverified video footage showed emergency services pulling people out of the wreckage and survivors crawling out.

Both Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have launched investigations into the cause of the accident. Embraer told the BBC it was "ready to assist all relevant authorities".

The BBC has contacted Azerbaijan Airlines for comment.

The aircraft involved was an Embraer E190, the Brazilian company is a smaller rival to Boeing and Airbus, it traditionally has a strong safety record.

It's seemingly unthinkable to people that a plane which just fucking crashed might have suffered unusual damage during unplanned lithobraking.

The damage could have been caused by almost anything, so good on ya' for pointing out other examples.

The plane crashed so hard that the debris traveled back in time and damaged the plane's interior and injured passengers before the crash even happened. Time is a flat circle or whatever

Drones wouldn't be able to fly fast enough to hit an airliner. The most likely cause of external damage would be Russian anti-aircraft fire.

Yeah, there's videos of the drones from the Grozny attacks and they appear to be medium-sized prop-driven recon drones loaded with explosives for kamikaze ground attack against stationary targets. Can't see how those could intercept a jet airliner flying at 9000 feet, seems far more likely that the Russian air defense systems mistook it for a drone and shot it down

Jesus christ, another thread where a bunch of rabid cunts bring in their 'RUSSIA BAD OMG' bullshit, followed by 'NO UKRAINE BAD' bullshit.
Can we have one fucking thread without you autistic cunts turning everything into Russia/Ukraine bullshit for once?

Sorry for the people who pancaked in the plane. That must have been a scary as fuck situation for the hour our so they were up and down more often than your mother's underwear in the club you were concieved in. Is that a translation yet of the dude who was filming in the plane? He would have told us wtf was going on no?

Ssshhhhh… let people enjoy things.

There's mutiple threads for Ukranian draft dodgers, pakis from England, Russian faggots, and retarded cat ladies to bicker over which country is the shittest.

Sounds like the Azeri in the video is just saying oh god oh god in his retarded moon language over and over, and the woman is saying somehting about moving. You would think that if he was going to video this, he would at least say something like 'fucking swans just flew into the engine', or 'S400 WTF?' instead of albert akbar or whatever.

You're right, we should completely ignore what caused this airplane to crash while after flying over a country with a history of shooting down civilian airliners even in peacetime. It was Allah's will, and that is all we will ever know.

I know you're rock hard right now, beating it to the thought that the big bad Russia shot down an aircraft, but all signs point to birdstrike. Wouldn't be the first time birbs crashed into a plane and fucked up hydraulics leading to a crash, and won't be the last.

Maybe but I am suspicious that the safety information is very loosely hanging out of the seat across completely undisturbed. Maybe it was a slow leak but it just seems to neat for something big like a missile.

When you hear hoof beats, think horses. In Russian airspace, your horses are trigger-happy Russian air defense and fighter jocks. They've done it before, they probably did it this time, and they'll do it again.
Absolutely retarded.

Hundreds of commercial airliners fly through Russian airspace every single day,

Pretty sure they're used to it, and can tell a commercial airliner from some cabbage nigger rigged Ukrainian drone.

I'm going with a non AA-related incident causing the plane to crash land mostly because the trouble started when they were almost on the other side of the Caspian sea. If the location was closer to the Caucasus I'd be more inclined to believe it was a SAM operator spooked by the prospect of Cessnas-of-Doom.

I don't think it was a shoot down but Russia is #1 world wide champion at shooting down civilian airliners. No one else can beat them.

Many AA missiles are designed not to hit the aircraft directly, instead the goal is to cause widespread damage via a fragmenting proximity warhead that detonates a distance away from the target and sprays it with shrapnel or something like a continuous rod system. That's exactly what all the damage to the empennage looks like as well. None of those injuries or hull damage seen before the crash, well behind the engines, lines up with the Russian claims of a birdstrike and I have no idea why so many people are convinced that's the case.

It's not super clear in the crash video but the both nacelles look completely intact, which is not what happens when an engine fails hard enough to endanger the plane. At the very least the cowling is blown off, like Southwest 1380, and that should have been pretty obvious in the video

A bird strike wouldn't cause that much catastrophic damage and it's an unusually high altitude for a bird strike. They suffered issues at 9000 feet. It's lunacy.

I don't know much about missiles but wouldn't these hit around the engines since that's the hottest part of the aircraft. I still really doubt that there was an engine failure since that combined with 3 system hydraulic failure would kill everyone on board. You also don't see fluids leaking out of the aircraft prior to the crash or really much external damage and I really think the cabin is too calm for that. It's weird either way I don't know.

How many years of experience do you have in aircraft engineering?
