I think what was more annoying is people expected/hoped that RTD would erase the Timeless Children bullshit...

But nope he doubled down, DT will be the Trojan Horse for Doctor Flamboyant Flamer (as we all know), has it been confirmed the Troon is his new companion?

While I liked parts of it, the pronouns and other stuff like the Male presenting Timelord thing it just kicked me out of the immersion. I skipped most of Jodies run I only watched the bitch regen.

Been a fan since a kid.

But I am done, DT can't save it, RTD is going to ram the Message down our throat.

I really don't get the point of teasing the fanbase with a few Tennant episodes and then bringing in a flamingly gay black guy as The Doctor.
Jodie and Chinball took a cash cow franchise that had been resurrected from the dead by RTD and expanded heavily in the US to the point of becoming mainstream nerd chic under Moffatt, and repeatedly crashed into a brick wall and did so so many times that the car is now destroyed and at best, only good for salvage parts assuming you can salvage anything.

And RTD's idea to fix it is to poor gasoline on the car and light it on fire so you can't even strip it for parts by casting a gay fucking nigger as Doctor Who and tripling down on woke shit because Chinball is his BFF who did nothing wrong.

The rumors floating around is that the BBC were ready to toss the franchise into the woodchipper and do a straight up reboot and bringing Tennent and Tate back was RTD trying not to see his life's work be burnt to ash and cinder.

The point of Tennent being back is to stop the bleeding ASAP and make Disney think the franchise is back in it's prime (since they are now fronting a good chunk of the budget due to RTD getting BBC to fuck over regular TV viewers in the US by making the show streaming only, which ironically will help RTD cover up his return's flopping in the ratings at least internationally) and pray to Christ above that people stick around to watch gay nigger Who.

It's also why RTD is back promising spin-offs, including a rumored 8th Doctor revival series that will give McGann a full run as Doctor Who and the rumors that the whole point of the Tales of the Tardis omnibus films being to allow RTD to do new 4-7 Doctor stories as specials via introducing a plot device to explain why everyone is so old now.

Sounds amazing but this is one hell of a monkey's paw so far already. I don't know why but a soft reboot feels like shitting on 12 since he was in a bit of a dark age and I just want to see a plain old man Doctor with modern cinematography...

I thought that's what they were priming the troon for but we saw photos of the 15th Doctor in the 70's blue suit with a mystery white blonde woman (which reminded me of The Idiot's Lantern even though that's 50's)

Seems to be doing OK, ratings-wise. Will have to wait for the full figures.
In their video today Clownfish TV were saying that's better than Whittaker but nowhere near as good as Tennant's first run.

I can't wait for Drinker's video on it. No one brutalizes Doctor Who like him.

I mean yeah. He doesn’t really care for Who that much so has no punches to pull with it.

It’s why normies are alwsys the best metric. If they shit on it it is bad.

The only other good indicator is those few fans with an autistic knowledge of the lore. Because they won’t give an f about the message. They’ll just shit on it for not making sense in continuity.

And if both are doing so…you get 13.

Considering I didn't like Davies or Tennant the first time around, I knew it was going to be garbage anyway.

And RTD still manages to find a way to disappoint me. Seems like he learned the wrong lesson from Rian Johnson.

it's so weird bc disney are not pushing the Tennant specials that much bc the donna stuff is very continuity heavy. probably waiting for the next series as a "jumping on point" when I assume the Christmas special will be just as, if not more so continuity porn (behind the scenes photos show mel paling around with gatwa, and I'm pretty sure the classic shit isnt even on disney plus unlike the revival series later on).
I respect the BBC's hustle of draining disney for money when the license fee is about to screw them, but I do not get how disney will benefit long term from this if Russel is going to pull from the past this much.

Disney is desperate for eyeballs. All their in house content is very poorly written woke shit that has turned people off to the point of unsubscribing. Their most popular program on Disney+ is Bluey, a kids cartoon from Oz they don't even own.

I'm sure they saw Dr Who as another way to further The Agenda, but it's not going to help them financially. RTD doesn't care about about Disney's bottom line, he's already cashed the check. (And isn't Sony involved as well?)

Edit to add: Sony indeed did buy Bad Wolf, who are making the current series, from 2 years ago:

Sony Pictures Television has officially bought Bad Wolf, the company set to produce Doctor Who series 14.
Sony purchased a majority stake in the indie production company, which is behind shows such as His Dark Materials and I Hate Suzie, while the deal also includes the Wolf Studios Wales facility in Cardiff and a minority stake in Bad Wolf America.

Russell T Davies, who will return as showrunner for Doctor Who's 60th year, will be enlisting the help of Bad Wolf to produce the next season, set to air on BBC One in 2023 with a brand new Doctor.
The company was founded by former BBC executives Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter back in 2015 and while Sky, HBO and Access Entertainment did hold stakes in it, Sony has now taken them over.
So now we have the unholy trinity of RTD, Sony, and Disney fucking this up, on top of the BBC. Wonderful.

I guess maybe they bought it mostly for the backcatalog then? IDK the Iger strategy of "Buying out every company has put us into debt, so lets just keep throwing shit at the money pit" is bold, but really short sighted
EDIT: from the other Dr. Who thread:
You may be wondering what went wrong, and the answer is quite simple: Doctor who came to Disney+, and during a interview with Davis, he told how the studio passed him notes to better IMPROVE the writing.
(source)
I don't believe Disney is to blame for absolute everything, but it surely didn't helped.
You know, I recall one time an american writer trying to contribute to either big finish or the show (IDK which in particular so my memory may being playing tricks on me) but I think him trying to write for the show caused someone on the staff to say "we are not going to let anyone outside of the UK take over". If that was true, Davis possibly getting notes from an American Mega corp and trying to incorporate them makes me laugh my ass off to no end.

Man, I haven't been a Doctor Who fan since 2015 and Capaldi's first season. I left because even though he's a decent actor, Moffats stupid scripts weighed him down and I suspect that's why he left. I take a peek every few years at the fandom and leaving the show behind continues to be the right choice.

also looks like reddit has realized how true the spoilers that got leaked a while back are after The star beast:
So "those" leaks that came out a couple months ago appear to be pretty much without a doubt true after accurately detailing everything in 'The Star Beast'. This means the events of 'The Giggle' and the X-Mas Special which were also in the same leak will logically, also be true. Are you worried or excited?

Here's a copy of the now-deleted original post regarding the leaks:

Spoilers for the 2023 Christmas Special from a source:

The episode is called The Church on Ruby Road. The story begins on Christmas Eve with a woman leaving a newborn baby girl, named Ruby, on the steps of a church. Ruby is adopted and raised by Carla. Many years later, the Doctor, a time traveler, arrives in the area and takes an interest in Ruby’s situation. In a television interview, Ruby discusses her life and the challenges she faced, expressing her desire to find her birth parents. During the interview, strange coincidences happen, and the Doctor unexpectedly appears. Ruby visits her mother Carla, who announces they are fostering a baby girl, Lulubelle, born on Christmas Eve like Ruby. Ruby experiences a series of accidents, and Goblins appear, kidnapping Lulubelle due to the coincidences surrounding her. The Doctor and Ruby work together to rescue Lulubelle from the Goblins on their ship. They succeed and return to Ruby’s flat, where the Doctor meets Cherry, Ruby’s foster grandmother. The Doctor and Ruby discuss the Goblins and accidents. In a surprising twist, the Doctor reveals that Ruby is Carla’s daughter, but time has been altered, causing confusion and erasing Ruby’s existence. After a confrontation with mysterious forces, the Doctor and Ruby are reunited. The Doctor’s TARDIS disappears, leaving Carla and others surprised at the end. Also the person they say who is coming back from 2005 is: Davina McCall playing herself this time and not an android. I also have some spoilers for the 60th:

The Doctor has to give Donna her memories back to stop The Meep from destroying London. Donna “dies” (but doesn’t because her daughter inherited half of the Metacrisis power.) There is two doctors by the end of The Giggle because The Doctor “bi-regenerated” which was supposed to be a myth according to Fourteen. The second special “Wild Blue Yonder” happens because in the end of special one Donna spills coffee on the TARDIS console causing it to malfunction. Rose Tyler doesn’t show up in anything other than the “Previously Fifteen Years ago…” segment at the start of the first special. The Meep didn’t crash it was on purpose. Rose is Non-Binary and uses she/they pronouns. (the reason she is kind of is because of the Doctor as The Doctor is also he, she, or they depending on regeneration. Rose gets annoyed at The Doctor for assuming The Meep is a He. The Toymaker says he has played one game with a previous doctor, the second with the Fourteenth now he must play with a next doctor. As the Fourteenth regenerates he finds he hasn’t changed but there is the Fifteenth Doctor next to him, this is where the “What the hell is going on here” is said. Later they both in unison say “I challenge you to a game!” the Toymaker annoyed says “That’s cheating, there is 2 of you!” and Fourteen says “But according to the rules you can’t say no.” he accepts the challenge. Together, they manage to win the game and The Fourteenth’s prize was to banish The Toymaker from existence. After the game, the Fourteenth Doctor, the Fifteenth Doctor, Donna, and Mel discuss the consequences of their adventures mentioning Sarah Jane, Adric, River Song. Donna tells the Doctors why don’t they just take a break and enjoy the simpler life. That’s when the Fifteenth Doctor remembers he hasn’t said what his prize would be. A second TARDIS! Now the Fourteenth Doctor stays behind while the Fifteenth flies off in his TARDIS.
Thoughts, kiwi bros?

@Rotollo 2
Sounds like something the BBC would love. A brand new Doctor AND keeping Tennant on? Shit, that's just genius marketing right there. I swear RTD mentioned the possibility of the Doctor regenerating into "twins" in an interview recently too...

The Time Lord "looms" in Lungbarrow are less retarded than this current shit. I wouldn't be surprised by anything at this point.

Nope. Disney is just paying for exclusive US rights for the new episodes, fucking over people who watched the show on BBC America and essentially holding a monopoly on watching the show going forward. BBC recently announced they were putting all the classic serials, spin-offs, and everything through the end of Jodie's tenure (outside of the first serial The Unearthly Child, which is now in a weird rights issue limbo) both on their own streaming website as well as IIRC, cutting a deal with Tubi for said back catalog.

BBC putting EVERYTHING sans Unearthly Child and the missing serials online for free is both a way to "celebrate the show's anniversary" and as a sort of mea culpa for what amounts to putting the show now behind a paywall outside the UK.

So like everyone already predicted they brought Tennant and want him on standby because NegroLiterallyWho has to star for reason but they know killing him on 3 episodes just to make him regenerate again would be a terrible idea, the double regeneration is the most stupidest ideas i have ever seen just to keep the negro around, is literally Metacrisis all over again but in worse

Another thing that bothers me to no end is the fact that Tennant got robbed of tons of lore because the BBC breaked the rule that once a doctor regenerate (except McGann and Hurt) you see on screen mostly what they do literally after the regeneration (i recall Cappaldi got a mini comic or something where you see his TARDIS tumbling around in time until he crash because he doesnt know how to operate it) instead he get a absolutely long ass comic where you see what he does after he regenerates and you see where he get the new sonic

I will try to watch the Star beast to completion when i get home, because i cringed hard when Tennant start to talk about pronouns with the Meep

It's probably the clunkiest scene in the special. Even other stuff dealing with that kind of thing was handled better elsewhere in the episode, and I still think that it was too heavy handed for its own good.

I haven't seen the new special, because I haven't watched this dead show since the 50th anniversary (which felt like a natural stopping point). I'm not shocked that the latest attempted reboot seems off to a rocky start, the show was going downhill shortly into Smith's run and the writing obviously isn't going to get any better with the BBC pulling the shots.

On the plus side, it looks like classic Who is now available on Tubi, so I can finally watch a decent copy of the 4th Doctor era instead of my ancient Dailymotion vids I saved 15 years ago. I've been watching Tom Baker all day, and low budget aside, the show was so much more watchable back then. He also had the best companions.

A bit off topic: I know she's usually a fan favorite, but am I the only person who just never liked Donna Noble at all? She's always been just an absolute chore to sit through. A dumpy, loud mouthed, white trash-adjacent blimp of a woman.
