Dumb Shit on Wikipedia

Just remembered this old howler from the Orangutan article:

There was huge fight over it on the talk page too:

One thing I do on Wikipedia is keep tabs on new socjus buzzwords that I think will one day explode in popularity. The common argument is that these are in no way hot buzzwords but actual sociological concepts that have been around for a long time. The wiki history always tells a different story and the people that likes these words and terms don't read anything more academic than manga and tumblr.

"Racialization" is one of those words that I've looked in on from time to time over many years.

What is racialization? Let's consult wikipedia in 2006.

Shit.

Let's jump forward four years into 2010.

Ok, it has an article now even if its incredibly sparse.

Let's go to the first edit of 2015, almost ten years from when it was created, it adds more to it but during the entire year there were only four edits.

2016 was a bit busier with six edits.

2017 saw some movement, still no real content added, just minor shuffles adding/removing small parts.

Then, starting in April 2018 it suddenly grew into what it is today.

Now I'm just waiting for "racialized bodies" to be used in every other sentence that some people write.

It is frequently used by Swedish SJWs, together with the incredibly dehumanizing concept of referring to persons as "bodies".

Yup, when I first heard it mentioned years ago I knew it had the potential to hit it big. It hasn't happened yet but I think it's a matter of time.

Svedland used to be a net exporter of SJW terms, that has changed but people here still come up with some gems.

Why doesn't the Swedish article have a section about the controversies surrounding Greta Thunberg like the English one? It feels like something that would make sense to add, especially considering how much the decision of her parents regarding her activism has received attention in the media.

(...)
The "controversies" that surround her originate from the Law of Jante and more or less failed adults' attempts to smear Greta Thunberg because 1) she ditches class 2) has famous parents and 3) has a neurodevelopmental disorder. It's not actually relevant to bring that up in article about her.

is that a term? i'm a member of a genealogy website that's based on the idea of a wiki (so everyone's tree is connected, it's not just you in a vacuum) and people are NUTS about categories. people will make the most specific categories for everything, especially occupations, and then other people will bitch about it, and then people start attacking each other. and the average age is like 65. i feel like people can't resist the urge to overcategorize.

Are you Mormon?
