Also, the mall near me got bomb threats a few months ago and they brought in the bomb squad, they don't just bring in regular cops to deal with bombs so why did they arrest him if they didn't think it was a bomb and didn't treat it like a bomb?
When I was in junior high I was hauled into the principle's office and interrogated for two hours about whether or not I was planning an attack on the school. Why you Ask? I checked out a book on the Columbine massacre from the school library and they found that suspicious. My parents had to threaten to sue just to get me an apology.
When I was very little there was a kid who did something where he honestly should have been arrested or at the very least gotten the police involved and the principal was like "Oh yeah, we're gonna have the police come talk to him" and she never did anything and my mom was so pissed and she's still pissed to this day that the kid faced no legal consequences
And then there's this school where they call the cops for stupid shit like this come on.

Maybe it would be toying with the media if there wasn't still the fact that the police interrogated him for multiple hours while refusing to let Ahmed speak with his parents or an attorney.Ahmed, who is an undeniably perfect, innocent, genius wunderkid, takes a clock out of one casing and it puts it into another. He is proud enough of this he wants to show his Engineering teacher. Not for a grade or even extra credit, just to show off his ingenuity. Understandable.
His Engineering teacher is essentially like "Cool. But keep that shit in your backpack, it looks like a bomb, don't show it to people." and Ahmed agrees and puts it away. Hours later, the alarm function on the clock goes off during an English class. Whoops!!!
The teacher asks Ahmed what the sound is and Ahmed then pulls this out of his backpack, and his teacher, who's job description isn't "Bomb identification expert," decides that this is beyond her pay grade, alerts her superiors and they alert the police because what the fuck else are they supposed to do when someone says "I think this thing looks a bomb, come check it out."?
The police then show up, and being people who actually are qualified to say if something is a bomb or not, quickly conclude that it isn't a bomb. But there's still the issue of the fact that it is illegal to intentionally build something that looks like a bomb. Ahmed refuses to say anything but "It's a clock," not telling them that it was brought to school to show to a teacher or that it's "homemade," as if a "clock" isn't the primary ingredient in a hoax bomb. His sister who picked him up and parents also do not tell the police this, but they tell the media. The police report says: "arrestee being in possession of a hoax bomb at MacArthur High School.”
The only person who we know of that thought it was an actual bomb was the particular teacher who called it in - a person who's job is literally to play it safe. Mark Cuban also claims that Ahmed claimed to have showed it to six different teachers before one of them took issue with it. Though that differs from the story that Ahmed told the media.
Ahmed gets suspended, not for building a bomb, but for building something that looks like a bomb. This is an important distinction.
By the way, Ahmed's father is a politician (And a 9/11 truther who is simply outraged at the idea that someone might not believe the media's narrative on Ahmed.) He also refuses to sign the waiver from the school that would allow them to explain their side of the story.
I commend this young man for toying with the media so effectively, semper fi to all are modern day Andy Kaufmans.
“I closed it with a cable, so… because, I didn’t want to lock it to make it seem like a threat so I just used simple cable…. so it won’t look that much suspicious”. - The Pure, UnSullied, TechnoMancer Ahmed.

I get there can sometimes be more to a story than meets the eye, but it feels like I've seen people really hard trying to justify the response and treatment Ahmed got by blaming the media for sensationalizing it or something.
That's the one thing I got out of this whole ordeal, that detaining and interrogating him for several hours should've been the main focus of criticism rather than focusing on the teacher.
Lol what does Mark Cuban have to do with this
So, no more meeting with Facebook and stuff?Ahmed and his family are moving out of the United States and to Qatar
So, no more meeting with Facebook and stuff?
They went to the Google Science Fair and met with President Obama, they were offered an education from the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) for Ahmed to join the prestigious QF Young Innovators Program. The dad more or less basically said that America was hella racist as fuck and that they would rather live in Qatar where they said they could be surrounded by other Muslims like themselves.

My opinion? I think he'll burn out, kid was just some average 14-year old in Texas with a mild interest in electronics who got thrust in the spotlight and is now expected to become "da greatest engineer EVAR" and has offers from MIT and Facebook, who generally are home to people who were basically groomed from birth into being scientifically literate. It's like taking some bum-fuck redneck with a 3.1 GPA from West Virginia and throwing them into UC Berkeley.
Yes racist morons in Texas overreacted but it's also kind of silly to act like this kid is going to be the next Einstein just because he built a clock.
Even if this kid did build the clock himself, honestly if just looks like a couple of wires were soldered across two points on an existing circuit board, then why is nobody wondering why his parents let a 14 year old play with a 350 degree soldering iron (and probably without an LEV too). Bet yanks still use Lead Solder too.
