Dumbass Americans arrest ninth grader for being called Ahmed and knowing how to build things.

Did everyone forget about the video of how this clock was "built?" You didn't even bother to watch the video on the same page.

Well hark at thee, Mr Judgemental over here.

I actually did the video thank you and then afterwards actually went and googled a picture of Ahmed's bomb to see if they were the same. They are obviously except that Ahmed's has wires soldered onto the circuit board and even one joining two parts of it. You don't that kind of technique used in commercial products.

there are so many variations of this story that not even ahmed can understand it explicitly.

And apparently he's not that of a genius that people and making him up to be.

Also, friendly reminder this guy--best known for throwing F-Bombs at Anita Sarkeesian and being totally anti-SJW--thought Ahmed was Indian.

I love the sheer autism this has stirred up. Like professional engineers with decades of experience are spending hours pouring over some kids random hobby project and making videos picking over all the flaws in an effort to prove, idk, that racism doesn't exist and he didn't actually invent a brand new revolutionary clock because no shit he didn't. It doesn't get much more autistic than that.

I really feel sorry for this kid. I hope his parents sue the bollocks of everyone involved, either that or his story gets enough interest that a decent college offers him a STEM scholarship and he ends up making more money than everyone who tormented him put together. Fuck, in ninth grade (year nine) all I was good at was wood work. This kid is building fuckin' clocks, in twenty minutes, because he CAN. Remind me never to get a tan if I come to America, they might find a mini screwdriver on my keys and arrest me for trying to hack into the power grid or something.

EDIT. They've updated the story and are now saying that they won't charge him because it was clearly a "hoax bomb" and a "naive incident". Basically they won't acknowledge their mistake but they are gonna be generous enough not to charge the kid because he's just to dumb to realize that his toy bomb would be scary. They also go on to clarify that his skin color has nothing to do with it and generally when they feel the need to clarify that it's because there's too much evidence to the contrary to ignore. There's a reason people shoot American cops.

You're from the U.K. You do realize that your country also has extreme xenophobia towards Muslims, arguably that is worse than America's in comparison, right?

It's hardly an "American" problem. It's a problem that exists in the entire western hemisphere.

Ah. The old "They made fun of me on the internet, gib monies pls" gambit. Anita Sarkeesian's legacy lives on.

How about getting his name cleared? Isn't that enough "compensation"?

Oh wait I might offend someone, so, I'll lie and say "I'm sorry".

Talk about shitty timing. This would already have been a Hail Mary pass of a lawsuit hoping for a lucky jury draw, but after Paris?

Nobody is going to have any sympathy at all, much less in Texas.

Also note: Chicago just settled a case out of court for $5 million over the shooting of Laquan McDonald, and that's a case where the cops basically just flat-out murdered a dude for no damn reason at all, shooting him 16 times.

So $15 million for being inconvenienced for a couple hours is massive bullshit. Suck it Mohammed.

I'm mostly pissed that they're asking for $5 million from the school district. The $10 Million from the city will likely have an effect on future school budgets as well. They're literally killing education in that school district for the next decade+ because their fucking feefees are hurt.

I wouldn't worry too much. They won't get it. I'd bet it settles for nuisance value.

I think the $15 million demand is basically just to get this shyster's name in the news.

The worst part about this is that nobody's feelings were actually hurt. It's becoming more and more obvious that this entire thing was a setup from the start and now we're seeing the actual payload deploy.

Yup called it. The media didn't really cover that his dad is one of those "shock activists". Its disgusting how easy it is to sway public opinion in the social media age. I'm terrified of ever moving back to the US and my son going to school and being educated around shit like this.

Can some one clear this up, there is a rumour floating around that once they get some money from this they plan to relocate back to the middle east? I have seen Qatar floated around a few times.

Also now that the facts surrounding this case (and media attention now being elseware) like the clock being just one removed from it's case, things his sisters have said and done, things about his family I am 90% sure that this was planned or at least a very happy accident because the family where looking for a way to get money from the local school district.

Looking for more money at this point just makes this kid and his family look like assholes. I can see they initially had a right to be outraged, but this is totally unwarranted.

I remember reading sometime ago that the dad keeps returning to his home country to run for some public office.

I know that's always struck me as odd, isn't there a Law in the US about american citizens running or serving in public office of a foreign nation? I know there is one about serving in another nations armed forces, so running for office in Sudan is a little bizzare to say the least.

But what I am talking about is the discussion of them moving to Qatar or alike, has that been confirmed? I scrolled back a page or two and there is a embedded video that looks to be about it but it's broken.

They already relocated to Qatar.
