No, they literally don't and never have, Tarn was asked a question once and said "yeah sure that sounds cool" but nothing progressed past that. I've looked through the RAW files for the dwarves themselves and there is no mechanism through which a dwarf can switch sexes.

This is the current available information if you want to remove gay dwarves or animals from your forts. (This is a legit issue in incest fortresses where you start with the original 7 and only grow from the children)
There were not sex shifts but some dwarves always had different indications. If you used Dwarf Therapist you would have seen this.

And Tarn does not always know what goes on in his own game.
 
You missed the part where I linked how to remove gay creatures from the game, I understand that has been around since at least I think 2014?
There are no tranny dwarves in the game, that's all I was indicating.
 
Yeah it was commented on up thread, but dwarves and creatures can only be gay/lesbian, bi, asexual, or straight, at least up through the steam version. I haven't checked the raws on the steam version, but I'd assume it would be a big deal and a selling point if the T was added in.

Interesting thing with the current sexual orientation in game is it doesn't seem to be genetic, and it is fixed at creature creation. So no changing their mind every hour about what they want to bop, and it doesn't seem to be inherited.

The lunacy of it all, especially in the logic and lore of the game world, is something else. It's been talked about in the context of DnD (what's the point of trans when there are magic spells to deal swap genders), and dwarves already will wear whatever clothes are sitting around. I somehow don't buy that dwarven medicine would make be advanced enough to butcher a stink ditch or hamburger helper sausage.

Apologies for double-posting and everything, but has anyone here experienced some crashing with the Steam release? I finally got around to playing it, went through the tutorial and whatnot, and after about 30 minutes, had a hard crash when clicking on a dwarf. Hadn't autosaved yet, so back to square one. I tried looking through other sites to see if there's a setting or reproducible reason for that, but couldn't find anything very helpful. Not the best first impression of the release.
The music is really nice, though, I like it a lot.

So I just got the Steam version as a Secret Santa gift, are there any good tutorials out there for that specific version? I know Kruggsmash dicked around with it a bit, but last I saw he was still using the base version.

DT used the symbol for a troon for bisexual dwarves, for some reason.

Would anyone be interested in a KF succession game? I saw there were a few attempts at one in the past that didn't really get off the ground, but with this latest update putting it fresh in people's minds it might get some traction.

Ideally we'd get some complete novices to take most of the slots, because if you are autistic enough to both play DF and post on KF already you probably have the encyclopedic knowledge of the game that can make it boring once you get established.

This shit is so muscle memory for me it’s not even funny, and I’m really not a fan of how the new interface basically forces you to use the mouse, with keyboard input being secondary.
I also don’t think the mouse-centered interface fits the ASCII style. The old interface had one big sidebar showing all the available keys, with hints in case you forgot what the keys do. The new interface has these vague icons spread all over the screen.

No, and the old interface isn't coming back unfortunately. Yes, it was ugly as sin, but there was a method to the madness once you got used to it.

The latest with a fully functioning LNP is still 0.47.05 though (so I'm sticking with that for now).

I'm waiting to see if we get a functioning LNP and dfhack some time in the reasonable future.

The old GRAPHICS are available, but not the OLD INTERFACE.
There has been no indication that Tarn is planning to add back the old interface and UI, as he isn't interested in supporting two different versions of the game.
DFhack is currently available and fairly stable for 50.05

I've been able to put back some of the old keybindings I'm used to. It seems like the sort of thing some autist will inevitably at least approximate with a mod. (Hence I'm sticking to 0.47.05. I actually like some of the new things like the detailed worldgen is still there but slightly more coherent.)
 
I hope so, or at least more work being done on the current interface. Honestly, they just need to take their Steam money and hire somebody to do the interface for them, because they seem to not understand basic UI/UX concepts.
 
Troons aren't in the game yet. Toady said he would add them, but at his glacial pace it will take a decade, unless his new masters force his hand. It's going to take him weeks to fix crashes followed months to add back in removed features, of which there are a shitload. You can't even advance the game frame-by-frame anymore so good luck figuring out what the hell is happening during combat.

Kitfox is exceedingly pozzed. Their Discord icon has remained an ever-cycling gif of every tumblr flag for ages, because lgbts get mad when companies take down their flags after pride day/week/month and Kitfox iSn'T lIkE oThEr CoMpAnIeS!!!1!!

Clinodev seems better at opsec but can also be found throwing his weight around wherever anyone is discussing DF. However, Rose is the final boss of tranny jannies.
