And that neat looking Hololense. :3

I really hope that goes far.

The Hololense has potential but I can't get past the feeling that it will be another Kinect - genuinely impressive technology that has very limited use in gaming that gets pushed hard for awhile before they kind of give up on it without actually saying that they did.

I've touched upon this in chat but this isn't necessarily a good thing. This would most likely have to be software backwards compatibility which means only specific games will be compatible. And the compatibility will be all over the place.

This is very easy to compare to the Original Xbox backwards compatibility for the 360. Where only specific titles were compatible and most of the time the compatibility was all over the place and buggy. There's a page that details it
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360
  • Mods made for Fallout 4 on PC will also be playable on the One.

Which will most likely not allow for third party resources like a script extender or Enb so it'll still be severely limited.
  • Early Access Gaming with Free Trial Periods
Because Early Access has been a sweeping success in the industry.
  • New title, "Rcore" being made by Keiji Inafune and developers from Metroid Prime.
The guy behind Mighty Number 9, who was revealed to just be a buisinessman is making a new game. Great.
  • Free copy of Fallout 3 coming with Fallout 4
Because the console version of Fallout 3 was the best version
  • AN ACTUAL NEW RARE GAME THAT ISN'T KINECT BULLSHIT.
The Rare that exists today is a shell of it's former self. Most of the original developers are working on Yooka-Laylee. Any new game based on it's old IP is most likely going to be another Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts

That's not necessarily true - it could have very powerful applications for Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games, perhaps even revitalising the genre not to mention making it playable for consoles. However, the same concept extended to the Wii and Kinect previously, and neither could make it work.

Up in the wind, really. I don't know how the thing will turn out, but the general consensus is usually that the reality is worse than the fantasy.

Hololens has industrial and business and educational potential.

Eh, I'm intrigued by the fact that this version of Early Access has a free trial period. Instead of throwing the developers money first and hoping for the best, you can actually get a hands-on experience before you decide to give them any money. If it was anything otherwise I'd be rolling my eyes.

no problem there, microsoft said that it doesnt require any extra programming, they only need that the developer give consent

Well yes, but I'm only thinking about it on the basis of gaming applications. Kinect had a shit-ton of third party developers and the general public doing all sorts of nifty little things with it, but it didn't translate to much for us - the gamers.

A strong showing from Microsoft this year, with some genuine eye openers. That said, a few things to remember.

When talking about backwards compatibility, the guy said "put the disc in and download" so we're still not 100% sure exactly how it works. Also, it supports certain games, but more being added over time.

The controller looked snazzy as fuck, but it's gonna be pricy I'll bet.

XboxOne games compatible with rift is disingenuous as fuck. It streams the games to the headset via a PC. It doesn't actually work as a vr headset, as in an actual motion controller and with proper 3d viewing. All you're really doing is making the game screen bob about.
oculus-xbox.0.gif

See what I mean? I'm not entirely sure why this is a thing other than to say "Xbone games work with vr"

Fallout 4 mods. They didn't specify "Exclusive" as they love to do, Expect these on ps4 as well.

Hololens. Very impressive in terms of the demonstration, however.... The field of view is meant to be tiny with Hololens, as in just a small square in the centre of the visor that actually shows the hologram.

Don't get me wrong, that was definitely an excellent e3 for Microsoft, and I can't see Sony topping them this year, but it does kind of highlight one of my main problems with Microsoft in that they tend to play pretty fast and loose with things and use obfuscating terms and such.

I do not believe this for a second. And I'd have to see it for myself

Also, new MGS5 trailer....

...annnd they yammer on about language being a bacterial infection and... something... something. Seriously, I just watched this and I already forgot what they were talking about. This is my main issue with Kojima- just speak in regular human language, dude. Drop all of this End of Evangelion-level pretentiousness.

Kojima has always been a shit writer who tries to hide that he's a shit writer. He's never going to change.

At least MGSV looks like it's going to be really fun. I should probably get around to playing Ground Zeroes.

If Metal Gear wasn't bat shit crazy in terms of writing, it wouldn't be Metal Gear.

Anyway, as much as I'm looking forward to The Phantom Pain, I stumbled across a rather worrying bit of info on Neogaf a couple of days ago. Now bear in mind this is a forum post of a translation from a spanish journo who played it at the recent preview event.

"I have discovered options that have not been mentioned in the title. When you expand your base, you usually assign tasks to your team. You can even send groups of soldiers to follow simple quests for money. So far so good.

- But here is when it gets rough

The problem was that once asked for an investigation that would take, say, four hours of real time to complete.

"I noticed an option to finish instantly".

When selected, it appeared an error message on the screen that told me that certain options were not available without access to the PlayStation Network.

Does this mean we need to authorize a payment to complete these tasks on time?
This does not confirm in any way to be micro-transactions. it could be an interaction with Ground Zeroes or application for iOS and Android game. In any case it would be important, before judging, to wait to see how they were implemented."

Smells like badly implemented Microtransactions to me.

As much as I do enjoy playing the Metal Gear Solid games, I have to agree with Yahtzee on this one:

It didn't seem weird the first time around, but MGS4's cutscenes looked more and more soapy as I replayed them.

Doesn't mean they're not still great every time they come out though. Kojima hasn't let me down yet.

The Microsoft conference actually surprised me this time. Some of the newer games looked pretty cool in terms of artstyle.

And mods being transferable to the Xbox One version of Fallout 4? That's pretty awesome! Same with that elite Xbox controller with the interchangeable parts.

I didn't really care all too much about that Hololense stuff, but I did like how they showed off Minecraft.

Rare's new game also looks pretty cool; glad it's not some fucking Kinect game.

Now I await for Sony's conference.
