Also if you bitch about the story being a very important thing to a game you're part of the problem.
Hi, your phone is ringing, It's the 90's, they are calling to tell you about these things called Instruction Manuals

Story in video games have ALWAYS existed. It was in ever Mario game, every Sonic game, even in every title that people barely remember or give a shit about, including Bubsy, which had a fucking comic book in it's manual. (see attached).

They were also in fighting games as well. From Street Fighter to Mortal Kombat. As simple as they were, the plots and characters were complex enough to keep people interested.

Don't go blaming other people for wanting good stories with their video games when video game companies have been doing this shit for fucking decades.

They got rid of manuals because people didn't read them.

No they didn't. They made them all fucking digital.

Have you ever played a WiiU/3DS game before? They have a "Manual" button you can access in the middle of the game by pressing the home button, or you can access it before you even play the game on the bottom of the screen.

Dude wii-u and 3ds is way last gen, tutorial sections were made in place of any sort of instruction booklet physical or digital.

Now please make like a tranny and kill yourself.

Gamers: Story is important. It can only make a game better not worse.

Also Gamers: Why is everything shitty pixel art games? Why are they making this shifty MeToo game with a bunch of writers? Why are they remastering life is strange!?

You faggots get what you deserve. Enjoy your story enhanced bore fests.

Also if you bitch about the story being a very important thing to a game you're part of the problem.

Souls games need no story you just need to be pointed in the direction of what new shit to kill next.

Anyone who plays games for the story shares the collective blame for stuff like this or volcano high existing

Story becomes so prominent that gameplay gets removed.

Games are not a story telling medium, they're one where story only serves as the framework, Games are about mechanics and interactivity.
Very much disagree.

Earthbound is a classic because of its story, not its gameplay whatsoever which was remedial at its release and just downright tedious by modern standards.

>Earthbound should have been a cartoon instead!
It would have had to be totally revised to fit that whole story. It also wouldn't have been capable of breaking the 4th Wall as it did. Only video games are capable of truly Breaking the 4th Wall with the game directly addressing the player. One of the most effective acclaimed moments is when the game says YOUR NAME (or the one you entered). Other games do this too, like Raiden throwing the Dog Tag of the player's name at the end of MGS2. Only interactive fiction is capable of doing such stuff.

Another example is everyone's favorite former Soviet Bloc CRPG, Disco Elyisium. The only other way a product like that could theoretically be made is either by making a complete PnP RPG Campaign with a Robot GM remembering every little detail possible or a Choose Your Own Adventure the size of a fucking Theasuarus. The former requires intense human work the other would be insipidly tedious downright to interact with. The fun of that game is choosing the huge variety of dialog/player choices and seeing how the game reacts to it in amusing ways.

>Fuck your communist Chapo House loving game
The devs mock communism too, in a nutshell the story gives the message that we're all greedy hypocrites who will start proclaiming whatever ideology suits our interests. Also you play a pathetic loser cop, you're not some great hero far from it. This is also one of the greatest strengths of a video game, you play the role of the protagonist you're not just a reader witness following along. Also the art direction is straight up amazing.

Why do you care that shitty games are made? No one cares that every other medium is filled with mediocrity. Most films are shit, most books are trash, most music is dull. Why should video games be an exception?

Earhbound is a prime example of what faggottry it invited into games because of it's fandom. We would not have the Earthbound fandom if they hated the story and that's a sacrifice many are willing to make

centrist.png

Again the far left and the far right who push for story are the same side of the faggotry coin.

Left wants LGBTQ porn stories

Right wants stories about regular porn

Neither of the extreme sides want to actually play games, they want games to be non-interactive as possible and be like books or movies which is why they use the word "experiences".

It is funny how the Sony Dick Sucker is complaining about "Story" in games when basically every major Sony Release of the Last Console had the exact gameplay loop and were all "CINIMATIC STORIES" tm
Detroit: Beyond Human
Heavy rain

Fuck, just BE MOVIES! Fuck off with the Quick Time Event bullshit.

Dont want me fucking off outside the map with insane levels of invisible walls?
Then you shouldn't be making a boring ass movie and calling it a video game.

The one major thing that was clearly stated was that games like God of War and Horizon designed the gameplay first and not the story unlike TLOU1 and 2 or David Cage bullshit.
