E3 (but not really) 2022

No.

The Wii killed Nintendo's output for years. They hit it big with Wii Sports and phoned it in with shovelware until the WiiU. And because casuals didn't jump on the WiiU, they resorted to pandering to nostalgia to limp along until the Switch. Unless you want to argue Wii Music and Metroid Other M compares to Mario 64 and Metroid Prime.

By the time all the drama around goycon drift died down and the switch was "good", the Nintendo fanboy brain rot had already set in. There's a thread about them for a reason.

I admit my ignorance on Switch games since it seems Switch owners only care about first party Nintendo, and some people see it as a refuge for anime games. But I'm one of those people who was burned by the Wii, and since then have seen nothing from first party Nintendo other than the same rehashes that any other company would get shit for.
As someone that also felt burnt by the Wii, trust me when I say the Switch is Nintendo at it's best since the GameCube.

Super Mario Odyssey alone is as good a game as anything they've put out.

It sucks that there's essentially a "lost decade" in Nintendo's history, but I've been really happy to see them make a comeback with the Switch.

I didn't know that. I haven't bothered with Nintendo Direct since 2016 (or whatever year it was they had the puppets), and the reaction to every direct since has been the same. Nostalgic gen-x fanboys reeeeing that some anime man was added to Smash or getting hyped for the next Zelda re-re-re-re-release. It's rare I hear directs break that formula. Just recently I saw people speculating that Nintendo is going to add more DLC to Smash even thought Nintendo said no more DLC.
So you missed the reveals of BotW, Mario Odyssey, XB 2 and 3, and every other Switch game because of "nostalgic gen-x fanboys reeeeing?" Sir, the reeees are coming from inside the house.

Her thighs are supposed to be big. That's one of the features that made her distinct

It looks like they gave her her SF Alpha sweatpants though, so no more panty shots, which is a downer.
mugbatlwvf391.jpgSaw this picture and realized they made her more bottom heavy like some other guy said ITT. They did her arms dirty - if you look at her right shoulder, it looks Starvin' Marvin's shoulder. Her proportions are all outta whack. I think her thighs were the biggest in SFIV, but I'm now realizing that's not what caught me off guard.

If anyone has seen Jane from Dead by Daylight, SF6 Chun-li reminds me of that r34 bait/abomination.

Thirty years later we really should still be comparing everyone to SFII tbh.

I wouldn't go as far as saying there was a lost decade, but a lot of the better Wii games did get overlooked due to the sheer breadth of shovelware on the Wii, some of it even coming from Nintendo themselves. Punch-Out!! and Rhythm Heaven Fever are the first two that always come to mind for me, both being late-era Wii titles that didn't get much attention.

And the Wii U really did have some great games, but everything worthwhile got a Switch port sooner or later, so, now you can enjoy them too. And I can enjoy being perpetually annoyed that I preordered Mario Kart 8, and then paid full price for its DLC, only to have the Switch version come out and never getting a price drop, with absolutely no discount for my dumb ass. Even used copies are pricey.

And I'd be happier to see them make a comeback with the Switch too, IF THEY'D FIX THE FUCKING JOYCON ISSUES. Like, man, I just don't wanna get invested in another game on there when I know my controllers could go at any time.

I think his point was he wasn't interested in sequels to decade old franchises. Being interested in Nintendo as a platform hinges almost entirely upon a pre existing interest in what has been before

Wake me the fuck up when there's a 20 year gap between new Yakuza games.

WHY, NO, I'M NOT BITTER THAT SEGA MADE AN AMAZING JRPG THAT THEY PROCEEDED TO DO ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOTHING WITH BESIDES CAMEOS, WHY THE FUCK DO YOU ASK?!
I would kill for a Skies of Arcadia remake. Great memories with that game as a kid. The airship content in that game was fun as hell.

I didn't realise Grim Grimoire was coming out that soon. Fuck, my wallet.
I still have yet to go through all the games that released last year on Switch, and this year doesn't seem different either. Yomawari 3, The Centennial Case, Fire Emblem Three Hopes, Jojo All-Stars Battle R, Gundam SD Battle Alliance, Gunvolt Chronicles 2, Taiko no Tatsujin: Don Double Festival, Triangle Strategy are other games of 2022 I'd like to play at a later point. Kiki Kaikai (Pocky & Rocky Reshrined), Atelier Sophie 2 and Kirby & the Forgotten Land were pleasant experiences for me.

I mainly watch nippon streams so I assume the western counterparts are much tamer by comparison. I do remember Super Robot Wars 30 in the Nintendo E3 Direct 2021 was replaced by Life is Strange in the West for instance.

I love EDF. Didn't know there was a new game announced.
It was recently announced to be released this August 25th for both PS4 & PS5 in Japan. A PC port shouldn't take too long if World Brothers is any proof of that (it took 6 months for that game to come out in the rest of the world with a simultaneous PC version)

It's a direct sequel of EDF5 in which mankind is on the brink of extinction (90% of the human population has perished following the war against the aliens in 5) but yet have to face giant insects breeding like crazy, giant frogs taking hold of city ruins, and new alien threats popping up. You can also check various EDF broadcast streams by Onsen appearing at the end of each month

The older EDF titles have been ported on the Nintendo Switch as definitive editions with their own QoL features, EDF 4.1 is coming next soon enough (supposedly this year). However, those versions are japanese-only unlike the Vita versions which were previously handled by XSeeD. The online community does remain alive, especially around weekends, which is the polar opposite of what I remember on Vita.

I didn't mean to derail the thread with Nintendo sperging (there's a thread for that). I was just commenting on the idea that Nintendo has been winning E3 since the N64.

As Ubertroon said
I think his point was he wasn't interested in sequels to decade old franchises. Being interested in Nintendo as a platform hinges almost entirely upon a pre existing interest in what has been before
You mention Breath of the Wild. While I saw "yet another Zelda game", and Link being extra androgynous and weapons breaking every 30 seconds didn't sell me on it.

Every big Nintendo game announcement since the Wii I heard about has been "Mario 64 +another one!", "Mario Kart Again: Look at all these old tracks!". "Pokemon pisses off the fanbase", and of course, "Eternal Smash Brothers". Meanwhile Nintendo franchises I do care about like F-Zero, Metroid, and Starfox continue to be ignored or actively shit on. Remember this announcement?
Meanwhile, Metroid Prime 4 remains little more that a jpg shown to calm the fanbase.

Making matters worse is that the things Nintendo offers have been surpassed elsewhere. Sonic All Star Racing Transformed was a far better Mario Kart than Mario Kart. Want handheld gaming without joycon drift? Steam deck has you covered. If I mention Nintendo IP fatigue, Nintendo fans usually point to Splatoon, a game from 2015 that is not really interesting to me.

And since I was out of the Nintendo ecosystem, I had little reason to look into them on my own.

I mainly watch nippon streams so I assume the western counterparts are much tamer by comparison. I do remember Super Robot Wars 30 in the Nintendo E3 Direct 2021 was replaced by Life is Strange in the West for instance.
That doesn't help if they're putting all the interesting stuff in only the Japan directs. I can understand why though.

I too would even just like a port of SoA:L. My GameCube disk has been played so much that the center of the disk is cracked to fuck (seriously what the hell is up with those American cases? Every USA game I've had from the Game Cube has had this problem).

Just a port, to PC preferably. Maybe with a New Game+ feature added. That's all I ask.

Well Metroid got a new game recently, although is a 2D title, Starfox got that crossover with Starlink but the toy-to-life aspect is a giant turnoff, for F-zero there is Fast RMX at least and that is a Switch only title:
The N64 Cruis'n series also made a comeback recently:
Bayonetta 3 is also around the corner too, so there is at least something to look for on the Switch that isn't "bing-bing wahoo" or JRPGish.

I do agree with the sentiment that the "core" lineup is still very shallow nowadays, but to make the best of the switch you have to dig a bit further and go beyond the average nintendo-tism circlejerks on social medias.

I bought the bing bing wahoo tablet specifically after the MP4 announcement for more comfy deserted planet exploring, and what did I get? Nothing, that's what. At this point I'm pretty sure it'll be a cross-gen game seeing how good of a reception Dread got, or it won't come out at all and will be quietly dropped. Not even a fucking MP Trilogy port...

For me it was either FF16 or Callisto Protocol. Last one is basically just a modern Dead Space, made by the same director as well
I hope Callisto Protocol is more than just "this is what we wanted to do with Dead Space but EA happened".

Just give her a cardboard box to cover her like what those common mobs were rockin' in the trailer.
Or a burka to fit with the western sensibilities.

Jesus Christ, that art degradation... it's like watching a tumblr artist's timeline.
