E3 (but not really) 2022

Have we just reached the end point of games until Virtual Reality (or whatever the next evolution is) can be done in a more fulfilling way?

Like, if we had never made the fullfilling jump to 3D in the 7th gen would we have been feeling this way by 2001? Just seeing the same generic shit over and over just with a hipster/faggy/autistic coat of paint?
I figured this shit out years ago when "the next big thing", Destiny, failed to be different in a good way.

Hey don't forget that Nintendo still makes games.

Generally agree that Earthbound is overrated.

It is important. I suppose. But that doesn't mean it is an excellent game. Earthbound is no Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana or Dragon Quest V. But it's a interesting game that should be played just to see the neat ideas that the developers had; even if the combat is clunky and the pacing is bad and some stuff is just weird. But the reverence a certain slice of gamers that were born too late to experience this stuff when it was new and born too early to think that garbage like Fortnite is fun... wew. They're special people.

Isn't Harvest Moon the main influence of Stardew Valley?
Yes this exactly. They were born too late to explore the earth and born too soon to explore the stars.

Earthbound is almost tolerable when you speed the game up two or three times. Which is to say that it is seriously flawed.

In fairness Harvest Moon has been shit for years, so Stardew Valley might've taken that particular torch.
...aaand now I want to go play A Wonderful Life again. Least the Gamecube still works, so I don't have to play the shit Special Edition....

It’s funny when one of the best announcements of your entire show is a remaster remake of a ps3 game, and the other one is alien. Again though, I’m talking about new announcements. If I included previously announced games the Callisto protocol would be the best one.

Yet Starfag Valley isn't shit? Come on, it's literally Harvest Moon with the charm stripped out and globohomo put in.

And "even by 16-bit standards"? That's where some of the best RPGs come from (Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 4, etc).

I wish I had screencapped it but I just remembered that if you wanted to chat on the Tribeca stream (on their twitch channel at least) yesterday you had to click a little pop-up window that said something along the lines of "I won't be racist or mean". Should've known then and there it was going to be shit.

Yeah, they're both kinda shit.
As is Chrono Trigger, which only has less painful gameplay than Earthbound but is basically the generic AAA moviegame of it's era.
Most of the top rated JRPGs are garbage and you need to ambush some hipster while he's out buying tendies to find out what games had tolerable gameplay.
