I think SNAP should continue to exist but adjusted. Expand who is eligible(Yes, I want more people to get SNAP) but only allow raw ingredients or the absolute basics like bread and reduce the amount of benefits given. With those changes, more people get fed while reducing the amount of money wasted on bullshit or fraud.
maybe this would do something to address the "food desert crisis" I hear about. Stores that sell actual food might survive if people had to actually buy that food instead of processed glop from one of the three bodegas on the block.

Just heard a complaint on the news that this is “putting undue burden on local nonprofits.” I thought that was what they’re there to assist with? Their entire reason for existing? There isn’t a :lossmanjack:big enough. Unbelievable how wedded people are to the idea that the federal government must do everything and anything less is cruelty. It’s as if it’s not even the revocation of benefits itself, it’s the expectation that anyone but Uncle Sam lifts a finger that truly offends them.

My prediction - the Dems will cave next week, the pressure must be getting intolerable. When the WaPo calls the Dems out you know things are bad.

Who wins, then? The GOP, for standing by their guns and not allowing the Dems to shovel those gibs to the illegals. I see some sort of negotiations re the Obamacare subsidies, ending up in a compromise.

Who loses? The Dems who kept voting everything down. The Dems who put country over party, such as Fetterman, win because of their stance.

Who loses, far more than they are smart enough to realize/understand? The 'gimme' class of assistance recipients. All the YT and Tik Tok videos of 'gimme' shiteaters first taunting everyone with their lavish 'benefits', then threatening to steal/rob/etc. if they don't get those gibs. The Internet is forever and these videos are going to be useful come mid-terms. Could see contributions to food banks/pantries go down.

These videos have now solidified the two-tier structure of assistance recipients. In the first tier we have the elderly, the disabled, needy veterans with honorable discharges, and the children. These people have genuine needs and merit respect, not their fault. Then we have the 'gimme' class, frankly just useless trash, deserving only of taxpayers' contempt. There is overlap between the two classes due to the children. A child cannot be responsible for either being born or for who their parents are.

Everything isn't black and white, there are gray areas. But that's my take.

On a side note, those in the 'gimme' class whining about not having anything for Thanksgiving dinner could go to the community Thanksgiving meals held in most towns and cities. Have one in Monterey, for sure, maybe even in the town I live in. May not be exactly what is desired but beggars like these can't be choosers. Fuck bucket is empty for such critters, of course.

Lol, pretty much. The entitlement of EBT creatures is astonishing.

Xanax ages thots in dog years.
Yeah, and in this case, "thot" stands for "That Hog Over There."

(I'd say "That Hag Over There," but she's not going to make it to hagdom at the rate she's going.)

Two adults, one part time, one off work since march. He has postpartum issues I guess? :stress:

We’re subsidizing men with postpartum depression and alcoholism :story:
Nah. We're subsidizing mentally ill women who claim to be men, and the spouses who not only pander to their insanity but squee over bringing children into it.

I can guarantee that this "man" with PPD and substance abuse issues, who absolutely nobody has wanted to hire since March, is a BPD pooner "seahorse dad" who got herself knocked up, gave birth, and insists upon being called the baby's father. And the spouse is another trainwreck, who needs to go find another goddamned job that will give her more, and more reliable, hours, instead of blaming HR, but she's probably a genderspecial herself, with ugly hair, tattoos, problem glasses, and/or a livestock ring in her septum, and nobody else wants to hire her.

You don't get Post-Partum Depression unless you're actually post-partum, having delivered a child and experienced the massive shifts in hormone levels and sleep patterns that new mothers undergo. A man, by definition, cannot ever have PPD, any more than he can have periods (no matter how many troons insist they do); if he's depressed following the birth of a child, that's...depression. Situational depression, if you want to get more specific. But not PPD.

Anyway, that's who is getting EBT, in this case.

I'm actually terrified shitless. I almost died in a car accident in 2023. I can't physically tolerate full time employment. I already struggle to pay my hovel and the SSA sure likes to take their time with my disability and disability insurance application. Almost going on two years now.

I'm freaking the fuck out but oh well I suppose, we live in a society.
You can live on rice and beans. 20lbs for around $10. Life is meant to have strife like this at times.

Nonprofits exist so that upper middle class perimenopausal women can spend 2 hours a year around homeless people and pretend that doing so makes them good people. Of course, they're usually a bitch to deal with in every other facet of their existence so it evens out.

It's comical seeing people bitch about how they are going starve without snap. In my area, you can get 5lbs of flour + 5lbs rice, 1lb of butter, 3 gallons of milk, 2lbs of ground beef, canned tomates, spices, and 60 eggs for like $60. Assuming you eat that food in a week, you'll only be out $240 a month for food. Being realistic, I'd only consume around $40 of that a week despite being a male and lifting weights + cardio. It's not like the food I suggested is slop only considered edible for swine, you can make bolognese, home made bread, home made yogurt, fried rice, tacos, etc. Shit, you could go even further by buying in bigger bulk sizes and replacing the beef with beans if you're really struggling. If that is still to much, every big chain store is offering credits cards with 5% cashback on groceries and no interest for a month + a sign up bonus.

Most adults vastly overestimate the amount of food they actually need to eat a day. Your average snap recipient isn’t burning off calories doing a physically demanding job.

The problem is really profoundly disabled people are often completely incapable of navigating the system at all, while the scammers are energetic and (not being disabled) able to fake out the system. What fakers do is doctor shop until they have a pile of paper big enough that even though they don't meet the criteria for any actual listed impairment, they can claim the combination of bullshit they have put together is disabling.
This is the biggest case for a lot of the mental health, depression and anxiety tugboats. It is insanely hard to get a mental health clearance on anything and the system is designed for you to explain your symptoms and what is happening.
The Last Psychiatrist had an article I always think of when disability comes up. L|A
tl;dr one key function of disability is simply to reduce the unemployment rate so people don't get anxious/angy when they look at it, but thinking of people who "could work" yet are in the system as scammers is misleading. They are absolutely unemployable in a modern economy; when the woman whose case inspired the article says she is "retired" because she got on SSDI for "iunno" at 27, after having received some training as a CNA, she's correct and that's how we want it. Also, this was written 12 years ago before AI started making lower-rung white collar workers like journalists the target of "learn to code" or "put the fries in the bag" quips; he specifically predicts this will get worse as the economy improves.

On the subject: we all want to see what happens don't we? No one is hoping this just gets resolved last minute anymore right? Any Republican who votes for a continuing resolution is going to get primaried. Likewise any Democrat who isn't personally willing to filibuster a budget. We have to find out.

Three hundred dollars a month in supplemental food assistance for a single adult is a lot—if you actually cook, and buy ingredients, and use your local food bank for dry staples such as rice, pasta, etc. and have enough cooking know-how to make use of whatever odd, random things they give you.
from what i can tell it depends highly on the area you live. 300 dollars in california is not the same as 300 in a small town in georgia or in alaska. i grew up poor and am all too familiar with having to make what money you have stretch and i do agree that knowing how to cook can help massive amounts. however cooking has requirements.

you need gas or electric or some way to make a fire to heat the food and some people dont have any of that either they just get a house but nothing else. which makes even making soup a very annoying task. this is why i really think giving people MREs would be an amazing cost effective idea they come with a way to warm the food while not being crazy wasteful or unhealthy and even the most retarded person alive can figure out how to do it.

my parents told me about how in the old days you would just get a box with the bare necessities in it but it was enough that you could do quite a fair amount with it MREs would just improve on that old way of doing things i feel.

also genuine question but what do you think should be done about the mass amount of people who have zero idea how to even boil water? should there be some form of mandatory class all food stamp users have to complete?

Give them a old Boy Scout handbook. If they can't figure out how to boil water with a stove, might as well train them with fire and wood if they are that fucking caveman retarded
