The Colosseums seem like content that was always meant to be in the full release, but which they didn't have the time to add before the game had to come out. So no surprise that it's free. Also this likely doesn't mean no bigger DLC isn't being worked on, this is likely just something they've been trying to fix up on the side as they're making actual new content.

It's seems like a cool update but I still think the update allowing you to invade everywhere in the world at the same time was better. guess we'll find out pretty soon...

There is no way at all that they won't do an expansion for ER.
ER is literally their biggest selling original ip, even if their expansion sells only half of the main sales, it will still be more than their other ips by a long shot.

Few months ago, it's reported they've sold 17m+, assuming 18m by now, that's 9m, probably more than ds2 ever sold heh.

Also, this came out shy of the game awards so I expect something juicy to be announced then.

Biggest win from the colliseum is that it won't degrade any DLC, Ashes of Ariandel was pretty barebones due to also including all the multiplayer shit.

Now the fear is too much focus on the obligatory open world section of the DLC. I rather have 2 legacy dungeons than one and a section of map that will only be fun to explore once. Unless the open area is riddled with arena bosses that are well optimized for horseback combat.

The colliseum itself... tried a couple of times, feels barebone as fuck but seems like something fun to go in and revel in the chaos.

With the response to Elden Ring's numerous nominations in the video game awards, and to the announcement of its free DLC, there seems to be a lot of people with interest in refusing to acknowledge its success, and attack it at every turn.
It's difficult not to see this as a result of all the salty game devs who spent most of last spring attacking Elden Ring for not adhering to established norms

I'm not hyped for the DLC, honestly.

I'm a newbie in the Souls series, I started playing these games just after ER came out. My last playthrough was Dark Souls II, a game that I absolutely loved, but when it came time to try the DLCs I was utterly disappointed. It's too focused on co-op, with each DLC having an optional boss that's basically impossible solo. And even the history-related areas aren't that fun because of the absurd difficulty. The first two DLCs actually I had a blast playing them, but the third one is pure cancer.

Fume Knight, for example, is an excellent boss, but it only works with a very narrow set of builds. The stamina management on this boss is legit impossible if you are on the more tank side of things. So even when the DLCs are good, the fact they wanted to make it super challenging turned things unbalanced for most builds turning it into a somewhat boring playthrough.

Now, think with me here for a second. On Elden Ring DLC they will want to make something even more horrifying than Malenia and Mogh (without all the cheeses, of course). It's not going to be fun.

It is salty devs as well as journos who want to turn every game into one of two distinct designs. Either a linear moviegame with a 'real' story that makes you cry, or an open world piece of slop meant to push you towards a cash shop, sometimes a blend of the two ala Soy of War.

Elden Ring also doesn't have enough progressive pandering in it. Despite body type A/B and the best ending involving marrying a quadrapalegic goth schemer. That means it must be eradicated at all costs.

Maybe as a super hard optional boss. Malenia is already incredibly well hidden and difficult to get to hence her difficulty. Dark Souls has always had a selection of some harder than average bosses in the DLC as well as some that are a bit tuned down, too many bosses in ER are obnoxious hard as fuck spammers but I'd bet dollars to dog nuts that the DLC will course correct a little bit on the boss design.

I might go in and try the coliseum every once in a while, but it’s not something I’m really gonna get too much into. I’d rather go back to invading in Dark Souls 3.
How badly is Elden Ring going to get screwed by the mediocre spectacle that is GoW Ragnarok?
GOWR is everything Journos love and Elden Ring is everything Journos hate, so it’s gonna get pretty badly screwed over.

I'm seeing an argument gain popularity where the success is attributed to ER's accessibility. The question of why this accessibility wasn't acknowledged when the game was Too Hard remains unanswered.

I'm not interested in PvP at all so this does nothing for me

Definitely will be getting the DLC when one comes out though. Hope it has lots of areas like the underground rivers/cities in base game, those were the most visually pleasing and fun to play areas for me. Even the Leyndell sewers (not the actual run around inside pipes part lol, the rest)

Have you considered gettin gud?

But I'm kind of surprised at your take of the Dark Souls 2 DLC, leaving aside the shitty multiplayer areas, the rest of them are the best parts of the whole game.

Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne also have their best stuff in the DLC and I'm not adding Dark Souls 3 in that list since a good chunk of the base game content is fucking ace (even if it's memberberry fiesta).

I do agree some bosses are leaning too hard on spazing the fuck all over the place. But the From DLC track record is damn fine in my book and thankfully the playstyle variety is obscene, so there will be something that will shit on whatever the think of.

I gave it a go for a while, and I find it fun in the "holy shit that's a lot pf chaos" sense. But doesn't have much more going for it outside of the novelty. Add bosses randomly going into the arena and I might care more.

You loved Dark Souls II but hated the DLCs? What bizarro world are you from, and how did you get to our universe?

Fume Knight isn’t even that hard. Like every other Dark Souls 2 boss, you just gotta learn it’s move set. Beat it in just about an hour solo the first time. I don’t know, maybe this is just experience from being a souls veteran speaking, but these games really aren’t that hard.

Is it the hardest boss in the game? Yeah, sure, but most bosses in Dark Souls 3 were harder.
