I was satisfied with the Radahn fight but wish there was some side content expanding on the eclipse idea. Just like how Miquella used Mohg's body as a vessel for Radahn's soul, maybe you'd collect Miquella's discarded flesh to use as a vessel for Godwyn's soul (you'd use the eclipse to bring his soul back from the afterlife / sun realm). I don't see a reason for Godwyn to fight you but maybe he'd unlock some alternate ending for the DLC where he helps you defeat his loveless shell of a brother

I would 1000% have preferred a dlc focused on the Formless Mother and an age of blood ending than what we got. Mogh died for this mid dlc, sad!
I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but...

The Formless Mother and how she's connected to the First Sin and Messmer, Miquella/St. Trina, Reviving or completely killing Godwyn, The Frenzied Flame, the whole business with Ranni's Great Rune, Marika's history, they could of even done something centering around fighting the "perfect" forms of the gods like unafflicted Malenia or Radahn,

Any one of these would of made for some good dlc if they only focused on it and not half-assed it. Instead we now have some asspull explanations for why shits fucked and are left with a bunch of plot strings that go nowhere.

Fuck it, they should of just made the dlc about Kale.

I have no complaints about this. Only on my most recent playthrough did I make the connection about merchants being the madness clan, so I'd take any excuse for more frenzy content. What I've heard about Dlc Frenzy stuff doesn't fill me with confidence. Plus, I'll take any excuse to wear that fuckin' feathered cape lookin' ass pimp threads getup again that you find in the platforming section.

You're saying this to the wrong guy, fren.

You are both shitting up this video gaming and even the Soulsborne thread with the shitflinging. And all you've been doing is pajeet tier damage control over criticisms against the game, which discourages further discussion almost EXACTLY like /v/ dweller behaviors. Newsflash: no one gives a flying fuck who you are or who he is. Shut the fuck up and actually talk about Elden Ring or rent a room for two.

It's a clusterfuck of ideas so them spending 2 years combining what was supposed to be more isolated dlcs would make sense. They made the Greater Will so fucking predictable and boring, so I think we dodged a bullet. I'm glad they didn't touch the Formless Mother if they were going to inject generic by-the-books storytelling for her.

So what are the odds of another dlc?
Thanks for the 40 bucks goy, now have no explanation for things it didn't cover

Also they cut the bestiary from the game which makes things harder to follow. I wish they didn't cut it, could have helped so much without having to farm an item only for it to not explain anything about what you killed.

It's really funny that people hate the Gaius fight while I liked it. It's like the moment you actually need to position yourself rather than spam broken arts/spells then it is badly made.
That's kind of the plot of the game, nothing is happening, everyone is either dead or close to dead, or locked in an eternal stalemate. that's why tarnished were called up.
It always seems so arbitrary. Bosses just stay in their lair instead of taking over the world because of reasons. Dark Souls 3 at least had a justification of needing to tardwrangle the bosses so they had a reason not to fight eachother.

Yeah, it's mind control, I wasn't disputing that. But Miquella isn't trying to create a world with no feelings, he's basically the exact opposite.
Potato potahto, if you are manipulated to feel something not of you own accord then you might as well have no feelings.
It's not a weirdass contradiction, Miriel brings it up as odd and tells you where to investigate, it's something the player is meant to wonder about and it's taken into account when writing his character. Just because something is mysterious does not make it a contradiction. It's not at odd with Radagon as a character, we just didn't have the full picture.
I never bought it, either Marika shapeshifted and ruled two rival nations at the same time like it's some comedy sketch. Or Marika is able to split to two different beings because she had that arbitrary power. Them starting as two different beings until Marika decides to absorb the other at least makes sense timeline wise.

Mos of them have jobs, are in an area they just conquered, imprisoned are hiding away, or are in a location they operate out of in secret. At the end of the day, yes it's arbitrary since they need to be acting like that for the story to happen since it's a video game, realistically people don't hang out in boss arenas.
But it is funny that, with the Demigods, it's basically the same setup as from Darksouls 3. These famed chosen heroes have all fucked off and/or gone crazy, refusing or unable to do their job of reshaping the order of the world, so (you) the player character have been called in to claim all they have and remake the order of the world.

So, you're dislike that they were the same person in the first place and would have preferred they be two separate people instead of a split than re-merge?

Honestly a Flame of Frenzy focused DLC would have been cool too. In one sense I like that Midra's Manse and the forest are sequestered away into a dark and hidden part of the world, on the other, it feels like finding and fighting Midra could have been a whole game's worth of story itself.

It's a really cool area and one of the better boss fights, but rather short and understated.

It's revealed that Sages have malleable flesh, right? And Miquella can split himself into his St. Trina persona at will. I got the impression that Marika created Radagon to cast things away to become a god similar to how Miquella did, and wound up taking him back as Elden Lord at some point due to Greater Will meddling, probably because she kept popping out freak babies.

I think it is fairly sensible. I thought initially the split personalities were bound to the same body but it would appear that they can be divested at will.

Alright I'm going to be frank.
Fromsofts style of ambiguous story telling fundamentally sucks and is very handwavy and bullshitty.
Elden ring's story sucks even without the grrm.gpt yaoi fetish plot.
Worst of all, it's completely mismanaged and doesn't need to suck.

What they should of done is have Marika take Godwyn's place being the one soul assassinated. Remove Radagon since he literally does nothing to the plot except make it convoluted for the sake of convolution.
Have Godwyn do all the stuff Radagon originally did. (Have him fighting the elden beast or something be the reason why the erdtree is sealed)
This literally fixes everything and makes the plot way less retarded.

It goes without saying, the way they went about prime Radahn was utterly retarded. If they wanted him in so badly, he should of been as a golden shade like Godfrey.

Pretty much, it doesn't feel organic while the game alludes to an ongoing war that you don't see. DS felt better because the whole point is people prefering the status quo.

The issue is the mechanic of it. If they could have split bodies it would at least somewhat made sense, but if it was Marika shapeshifting to fuck Rannala and then come back home to govern then it's ridiculous.

It would be strange if Miquella and Trina are different beings since then why are they considered one?

Like the entire series it goes into diminishing returns and by now it became a caricature of itself with the Zanzibar meme.

I think if they carefully made a CRPG in a similar vein to Planescape Torment they could very well make one of the greatest vidya stories in modern gaming. I think a lot of their writing would work much better in a CRPG or true RPG game, and it can give them an excuse to have proper lore dumps. It would be a very refreshing shakeup too which keeps game developers alive and prevent stagnation or reliance on a singular formula.

Edit: Also sorry for doubleposting earlier I'm new.

I mean, that's not what happened, we know what happened and that didn't happen so 🤷

Personally I don't mind, nor do I really care if I walk into an area and some guy goes "forgive me Zanzibart!" before a boss healthbar appears or he starts his second phase. A meme making fun of phase two transitions doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game.
In Elden Ring we have Maliketh and his blade of Destined Death, and in the DLC we get Messmer and Midra's intro cutscene.
In Bloodborne we have Lawrence(or rather people talking about him), and "Ah you were at my side all along,"
I don't remember any instance in the original DS, and I haven't played DS2 and 3 so I can't speak for them. If I want to investigate the story I can read item descriptions and if I don't I'll just go through the game ignorant of the greater story.

Yea but if in your rpg people go through it without knowing or caring about the story then it is a abject failure narratively speaking.

Currently replaying the game after the DLC, the base storyline about burning the tree and becoming the Lord is kinda meh. But if you do the different sidequests you get different views on the current order of the world and are given the choices of upholding the previous order or changing it for something new, I kinda liked it. Even if the sidequests are often conveluted and need a guide to complete some steps. But I would enjoy it way more if they made an open world with a story more akin to Sekiro or Armored Core, something more structured and they have proven themselves capable of making a good comprehensive story with those. Rather than the often vague and handy wavy sort of story telling that we have already seen since Demon Souls.
Edit: Btw, Miquella and his phase of the last fight can suck my big fat balls.

I'm not sure if the story of any Souls games is the key reason people enjoy them. They're dark fantasy stories in well built worlds that do have strong Lore behind them but it's not necessary to enjoy the core gameplay mechanics.

to say a narrative fails because you can play the game without it is an interesting take. I'd really enjoy how souls games have a surface level story but then a deeper meaning behind most things if you want to dig. for me that's a successful narrative.

HAH! He did come from the Elden Ring thread! Yeah they're shitting up the Synth thread too. They really should procreate, assuming they're not the same person which would be the funniest shit I'd see all week.

Idk I'm having so much trouble with this fight. I don't think it's a bad fight but it just isn't clicking with me and some attempts I don't even get a hit in. What was your setup when you beat it?

Just dual katanas and mimic tear. While he is faster than Torrent he can't really manoeuvre as well so just remaining behind him and letting him be distracted is good enough
