Wow, a stand-alone co-op roguelike of ER. So I can have a duplicate of half or ERs assets on my disk, replaying the same chunks over and over again and having some kid crunching chips into my ear, berating me for my non-META loadout when I discover, once again, nothing substantial about the world of the Lands Between while genociding every citizen in it out of vague motives. I'm sure all the Lore-Youtubers are going to make a big sack of money tailoring all that shit together in their lore videos.

VERY multiplayer focused from what I hear. Seems like hard pass. It's basically From Software going "what if I did a pve multiplayer game that can be played in blocks of less of an hour".

Well, I spoke early, there is a solo player mode and there doesn't seem to be season passes or similar shit, so seems like a closed package. So it's a "distraction" game. Biggest tell will be selling price, since it does not sound like a 70$ package.

Someone on the comments said that the end doors almost look like the Throne of Want from DS2. And notice that the Millwood moveset was present in some form. Also, there is a Bloodborne reference, in 2:04, looks like Yahar'gul.

If my guess is correct, and I think it might be, some of the comments have mentioned that Elden Ring might have been the Painting the Painter from DS3 was trying to make.
I don't think so, honestly with how soon this game is coming out after Elden Ring and SoTE I think it's pretty clear that it's being made since owners(Kadokawa, Sixjoy, Sony) want Fromsoft to make more of it's most successful game ever and FS already resues a bunch of assets in their games.
So they're making an easy(ier) to make asset flip game using the IP that people are demanding from them, while also using it as an opportunity to test out multiplayer and probably procedural generation features.
Any lore or story is tertiary at best and I hope it stays that way since I don't want this game influencing the story of previous Fromsoft titles.

Thank God emulated Bloodborne is in a good spot right now and is distracting me or I might be slightly skeeved or minorly miffed over this glorified overhaul.

This seems to be a Dark and Darker rip-off that is already a terrible gook game.

Considering FS is incapable of making anything good anymore and is descending into live service giga-slop I don't think I'll bother with anything they release anymore.

It's going to be priced similarly to Shadow of the Erdtree according to PC Gamer

I still need to see word of mouth and specially if it works well in solo play, but I'm warming up to it. Reading more, this is the first direction project from a veteran developer in From Soft. Project shows that it's very aware that it's a hodgepodge spinoff and not selling it like a main course. They do definitely need to start creeping from under the shadow of Miyazaki. The new director... must really like Fortnite or PUBG is my other initial hot take conclusion.

And lots of cope of how Bamco is responsible, as if continually buying copy pasted products dind't make FromSoft go full Bethesda.
I don't see how that's cope, Elden Ring is by far the single most financially successful game Fromsoft has ever made, of course the people who have invested money into Fromsoft want more of it.
And it's not like this being the case would makes the announcement better. If it's a bad game, then it's a bad game no matter what and it's Fromsofts fault for making a bad game and I won't buy it.

It seems like two things to me. The first is that it’s just capitalizing off the success of Elden ring, (of course) and the 2nd is that it’s a holdover game for fromsoft’s next big game, at least I think. I hope that’s just what it is…

Definitely, new senior dev that wants to direct their first project, that it's sales price will be closer to what was the DLC cost than a "full new game". This is an AA project that got greenlighted on the assumption that it would milk the Elden Ring brand and not take much effort to develop due to all of the asset reuse. Probably most of the people working on this will be new hires. I think it can be neat, but there's also a big risk of lack of experience making it a bit of a mess. I file it as wait and see for now and will just assume that Miyazaki is working on something more meaty and less derivative.

I'm in two minds about this.
On one side, this seems like a soulless slop, made as fast as possible using old assets, to profit out of the surging popularity of Elden Ring.
On the other hand, I think it's totally fine to make some low budget "new experience" that reuses assets and gameplay from some other game.
My final opinion will really depend on the price, depth of this new mode and lore (and if it's canon).

But I guess what bothers me it that the Souls series had, so far, been an "artistic" series. In the sense that all games tried to have a strong atmosphere, art-style and theme. Even DaS2 which had a lot of development issues, still tried to be like that. This game just seems thrown together.

Probably not going to play it because I've wasted enough time on rogue-likes.

Souls games are usually pretty tightly designed so I don't know how From's going to tweak the difficulty while accounting for RNG potentially making the player either overpowered or underpowered. Not saying they can't do it but it seems like something that's out of their wheelhouse.

Reusing enemies from older games is interesting, yeah it's blatant asset reuse but I wonder how they'll tweak them to be difficult nowadays, because most of the bosses from both 1 and 2 are so slow that they'd be cut to ribbons by the average Elden Ring build.

FROM bought Elden Ring from Namco. They own it outright.

My bad I'll remove Bandainamco from that statement.

Both conceptually and functionally, this looks a lot more like an ambitious mod than an official Fromsoft release. I hope the 4 unrevealed characters have some truly novel playstyles -- most of what's been presented so far is re-uses of (admittedly good) mechanics from previous Fromsoft games. Birddude looks cool tho
