WHY would he post this???
Weight loss progress, presumably. Dude used to be WAY chunkier, thats actually respectable progress for him.

In other news: is there a separate thread for Sam Bankman-Fried / FTX / EA stuff, or does that all get lumped in w the Yud scud? Bc reporter Ellen Huet @ Bloomberg is about to drop the latest version of her "Silicon Valley millionaire group is actually a sex-cult!" madlib w a new set of familiar names, and Im curious where to pontificate.

He posted this in Feb 2020 to flip off some rando who questioned the credibility of rationality preachings from a fat guy. Said he achieved it through supervised PSMF, meaning 800ish kcal/day mostly from protein — insanely extreme:

Since then, Yud has apparently gained again and swung right back into doomed fad dieting while naysaying every sustainable evidence-based suggestion made to him.

On the one hand, I feel bad for him: his hunger and satiety signals are probably fucked, so dieting is a Sisyphean task — exactly the kind of desperation that leads people to mystify the effort and latch onto whatever cult nonsense promises salvation. On the other, this is very funny and perfectly characteristic behavior from Mr. Rational, who says a lot of science words to convince himself of his own legitimacy while saturating his brain in myths. (Or extra-light olive oil guzzled straight from the cup.)

I haven't followed him intentionally, so idk if he's explained anywhere why he won't consider bariatric surgery. On paper he seems like a good candidate. Tirzepatide is worth a shot too, as it targets a different receptor than semaglutide & might work for him even if semaglutide doesn't. There's just no reason why this man should be drinking oil when he's financially capable of exploring options with far more evidence to support their efficacy. It's like he reflexively discounts all conventional angles of attack because he's built part of his identity around being a Very Special Case for which no conventional method could ever possibly work.

I'd say his health is worth more than his ego, but maybe Yud in all his unfathomable superhuman wisdom calculates differently.

Doesn't this guy know that how to lose weight has been solved by a South African doctor in Australia like 15+ years ago?

Loses weight while eating 800kcal/d, but CICO doesn't work because he's metabolically disprivileged. :story:

You see this all the time in people who score one unusual W, such as child prodigies or most famously lottery winners. Building a science-flavored cult around you while barely having finished high school is probably enough for the "I must be special" brainworms to set in.

Why do these dorky niggas always make weight loss so fucking complicated? It's not that hard fatty, just eat less food and do some cardio.

How do people look at this fat faggot and think he has the willpower or strenght of character to model this ultra-rational autistic monk life if he doesn't even have enough self control to quit putting brownies in his mouth?

You don't understand, he's too busy pondering questions on AI to care about his personal health and hygiene, and once the singularity comes, such trivial normie concerns will become irrelevant. Even though his definition of both AI and technological singularity are totally different from any actual credentialed educator or researcher.

It's so typical it feels like it has to be intentional. They say con artists make the easiest marks, doctors make the worst patients, etc. Wannabe rationalists are apparently the easiest to trick into believing obvious hokum. Big Yud is so used to finding obvious and easy answers that fit his preconcieved notions, apparently he can't imagine a world where he actually has to use discipline to be equal to everyone else. Guess he's dealing with so much anxiety about the robot apocalypse he's stress eating without measuring it.

And he's gotta make sure he phrases it in a way that all the southern California progressives know how hard it is for him specifically. If only the people with "metabolic privilege" could appreciate how hard it is living in a body that violates the basic principles of biology and probably the first law of thermodynamics. That's just how special and unique Eliezer is.

Probably won't try any sort of drastic intervention because there's a .001% chance of dying and therefore anyone who does any of it is irrational and doesn't care about life.

One of the hallmarks of people who think they are a lot more intelligent than they actually are, such as these, is that they will take terms and concepts that are actually only applicable in fields such as logic, mathematics and physics and use these while discussing social activities and everyday human behavior.

Im sorely tempted to point them at the entire MIRIcult coverup/Louie Helms hush-money thing and watch the entire community burn to the ground, but clueless people who didnt know any better than to get sucked into this shit would inevitably get thrown under the bus first.
THIS. Absolutely this. You'd think the 'anything for clicks' / 'learn to code sweatie' jurnoscum would be all over the MIRI CFAR Yudkowsky Schlomo sex cult rapes.

Btw:

Might be late but just in case, the Bloomberg article dropped. If it was already posted, mind linking to the discussion?

I don’t think this is fair. I know it’s fun to point at the fatty and go haha, but the amount of willpower it takes to maintain a healthy weight varies tremendously from person to person depending on how hungry they get. For some it’s a herculean effort — or worse, because healthy weight isn’t the kind of labor you can complete once and have under your belt forever. It’s a constant intrusive buzz of desire that must be denied in every moment of every day. The deck is stacked. The fundamentals are cursed. There are plenty of strong people with ferocious willpower who have achieved great things but can’t sustain a weight lower than their “natural” point because the ability to do things in the moment ≠ the ability to endure, and they just get too damn hungry over time.

I’m speaking generally, ofc, not of Yud.

I’ve never been overweight, but I stay some fifteen pounds below my “eat as much healthy food as I want” weight for bullshit vanity reasons, and let me say: listening to naturally slim people tell you to just Eat Less is about as helpful as an earful of gasoline. Like, no shit. The challenge is to eat less forever without going insane. Yes, it’s possible to eat less simply by ignoring your hunger signals for a while, but it’s not sustainable longterm for the vast majority of people unless they go to the root and reduce their hunger — train themselves to want less food. Caffeine, good sleep, lots of water, lots of walking, minimal added sugar, cooking delicious savory things to drive down the appeal of sugar, keeping the mind ever active on things bigger than the next meal… it takes all that & more for me just to stay fifteen pounds down sanely. Fifty or a hundred pounds seems much harder. Especially with a bad base like a childhood diet high in junk.

Maybe I’m soft. I accept that. Just can’t help but have empathy for the struggle.

Yud is a very silly man not because he’s fat, but because he delusionally refuses to admit that he’s fat for common human reasons. If he said “my appetite is huge and I just can’t conquer it,” I’d respect that. Instead he wants so badly to come off as a singularly powerful uber-rational supergenius that he can’t accept he’s weak in a way that many, many people are. He’s a bad model for rationalism because his magical thinking outs him as a rationalizer. Because the fat angst is just the tip of his gigantic rationalizing iceberg.

Probably won't try any sort of drastic intervention because there's a .001% chance of dying and therefore anyone who does any of it is irrational and doesn't care about life.
Sounds about right. Exaggerating miniscule probabilities into ENORMOUS INEVITABLE WORLD ENDING CATASTROPHES is kind of his thing.

Thanks for linking. These people need Jesus. No doubt they think they're above such ancient and irrational practices as organized religion, but their apocalyptic dooming says otherwise. If they weren't such snobs, they could channel their religious instincts into healthier communities, but I guess it's more fun for nerds to pretend that they're discovering some new truth too high and arcane for the normies to see.

Youd think, but no. Journo literally didnt want to hear about the Louie Helms stuff.

Like i said, the article had already been written BEFORE any interviews happened.
There are enough buzzfeed one-step-away from chatgpt journoscum that might make a halfhearted effort. The bloomberg article is from a lady already working on a book about some MLM sex cult thing.

So any journos already doing sex cults, disillusionment with silicon valley / AI / FTX / cryptoscams, human trafficking enabling a la rachael aella slick, etc might be willing to actually go a bit deeper

Certainly an ultra-rational mental superman should be able to handle these easily. This isn't some pleb we're talking about here. This is a super-genius.

ofc the world's most rational man would go overboard on the latest meme diet instead of just eating less
