Eliezer Schlomo Yudkowsky / LessWrong

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Here's something that clearly isn't a joke. Schlomo defends pedo-simping whore Aella after she said women actually secretly want to get raped.

There's been a lot of chatter on certain substack circles on Aella.

This bit cracked me up.
There’s already many people who have responded to that essay, taking up the #StunningAndBrave position that flooding the Internet with CP is actually bad.

From my perspective, the biggest problem with her argument is the implementation.

By analogy, consider Eliezer Yudkowsky’s arguments against AI. For those who don’t know, Yudkowsky is a high IQ rationalist who thinks that AI is going to kill everyone, and so he thinks the only reasonable solution is to start bombing data centers.

While this might solve the problem of stopping advanced AI, the effects of actually carrying out such bombings would be so devastating that it would be just as bad. Which is to say, if you actually think about the sequence of events that would make such a thing possible, it means we're probably already in an apocalypse.

The literal apples to potatoes comparison is him being le 90s quirky by professing to have the dumbest, most out there eccentricity to be the most specialest nerd of all special nerds. We're talking about the guy who thinks Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the Rationalist's show of choice and who gave Harry Potter of his fanfic a stupid 22-hour circadian rythm, as in he goes to sleep 2 hours earlier every day. Why? To be weird because weird and needlessly complicated equals layered to these folks.

This is usually considered a serious disorder because it makes it difficult to keep any kind of normal schedule. I'm pretty sure I've seen other of these "Rationalist" cretins endorse weirdo sleep schedules though.

I'm suprised it *is* a disorder and not something Yudd pulled out of his ass, unless you're pulling my leg.
I know there's a genetic disorder where the victim stops being able to sleep at all at some point and death comes swift at that point.

It goes back to Buckminster Fuller, who was the OG sleep hack guy. I think he slept 15 minutes every 3rd hour or so.
Oh my God, there was one blogger who around 2012 tested out all these special snowflake schedules and concluded the only one making any sense was the Mexican siesta one, where you sleep less during the night but take a nap in the afternoon.

"Polyphasic sleeping" as it was called left him tired all the time and he suspected that the inventor of it being a motivational speaker might have something to do with it being allegedly effective for him.

The best I've heard about that is it (allegedly) works if you adhere strictly to whatever bizarre "Iron Man" schedule you set for yourself. Maybe if you're Buckminster Fuller you can arrange your life so that anyone who interrupts your weird autistic schedule gets beheaded.

Most people have to deal with reality, though, where even if you CAN go to sleep for 15 minutes every three hours, you're going to be interrupted by real shit happening and apparently this totally wrecks any benefit from it.

Here's the disorder: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-24-hour_sleep–wake_disorder (not going to bother looking for better than wiki).

The sleep pattern humans naturally gravitate towards is biphasic, rather than polyphasic, which seems to be a case of "more bigger number = better" syndrome. Rationalists and other grifters will always engage in more bigger = better in order to sell their totally unique ideas.

Actually, it was 30 minutes of sleep every 6th hour. And yes, he quit doing it because if you have get actual work done, you have to be awake and working when others are doing the same.

The only sleep hack that makes sense is other than siestas is where if you're only going to be going to a place that's many hours ahead of you for a few days keep to your home time zone it's pretty effective at preventing jet lag.
