Eliezer Schlomo Yudkowsky / LessWrong

The whole thing is a pretty good read
It was fucking great. I loved how he managed to reference the fucking kid that invented pork just the same as Sonichu. Truly amazing.

edit: I actually recommend it as a great piece to explain why rationalism/less wrong is dumb in general. It makes a lot of sense and provides decent context.

For nearly two weeks, there's been a sitewide meltdown (archive) over an impending, three-year ban for one of the site's most autistic commenters. The article is informative, but the good stuff is in the comments.
For roughly equally long have I spent around one hundred hours almost every year trying to get Said Achmiz to understand and learn how to become a good LessWrong commenter by my lights.

I spend hundreds of hours hitting myself in the forehead with a ball peen hammer trying to get my wife's son to not smear shit all over my walls.

LessWrong, ladies and gentlemen.

So ultimately, what other option do we have but a ban? We could attach a permanent mark to Said's profile with a link to a warning that this user has a long history of asking heckling questions and implying social punishment without much buy-in for that, but that seems to me to create more of an environment of ongoing hostility, and many would interpret such a mark as cruel to have imposed.

You give them a pink triangle, ya fruit loop.

I Just realized how cucked the Rationalist cult is. Not just because of their bizarre overlap with polyamory, but because of a man named L. Ron Hubbard. Old Hubbard made up a sci-fi religion based on and tied into his own science fiction, his cult managed to infiltrate the FBI, and despite their present decline at least the cult managed to net Hubbard plenty of power and infamy during his life.

Schlomo is entirely derivative. The AI rapture/apocalypse/"singularity" notion is just a blend of conceits already elaborated upon by sci-fi authors like Vernor Vinge, Ian Banks, William Gibson, and Stanislaw Lem, to name just the few who I'm aware of. Even once established as a cult leader he piggybacks off of an existing property, Harry Potter, in one of the most tasteless perversions of a fictional universe I've personally witnessed (why not use the world of The Golden Compass for an atheist-transhumanist advocacy fanfic instead of bastardizing a Christian-derived cosmology?) Oh, and since it's a fanfic it will also never get a movie adaptation. Instead of power and infamy, all Schlomo can get is public embarrassment and a crumb of Aella's reeking pussy, and I doubt that the Rationalists have meaningfully "infiltrated" AI companies, for if they had I'd expect more acts sabotage by now.

I'd say it's a regurgitation of basic bitch Christian concepts like the original sin, repentance, final judgement, Pascal's wager etc. for people without the stomach to read anything not soaked in scifi popculture, but knowing what Yudd wrote himself in his biography probably not even he is that original. It's like Middle Earth, but one additional step removed from the source. Third Age vs. Second Age, so to speak.
why not use the world of The Golden Compass
Because Harry Potter is more popular and his stated intent was for HPMOR to reach as many people as possible.

Said Achmiz is obormot, the guy who runs datasecretslox.com. He's autistic in the sense that once he thinks he's right about something, he won't let go. The animosity from the LW crowd is the result of his longstanding opposition to all their creepy Bay Area cult shit and the associated hugbox communication norms. He also noticed that trooning in the rationalist community is a social contagion (Archive).

EDIT: The guy Said supposedly drove away from LW is Duncan Sabien, who has appeared in this thread before. He's the husband of Yud's pooner ex-wife. He's also the author of this gem:

But only a completely autistic retard would be converted to a philosophy by a poorly written, rambling Harry Potter fanfic.
These people didn't get beaten up and have their lunch money stolen enough as kids
I think they ate plenty of lunches.

Because they're all FAT.

Oh, even better. From what I remember, he wrote a fanfiction of Harry Potter that was mostly a fanfiction of Harry Potter fanfiction. The parts that weren't just regurgitating a bunch of shared-world kind of inventions that were created entirely by other fanfiction writers was basically just ripped off from Ender's Game. I think where I stopped caring about it as even a trainwreck-in-motion spectacle was around the part where he was using a fanfiction explanation for dementors being about mortality because he probably believed the story about Rover playing on a farm upstate into adulthood.

I already have so much disdain for trend-chasing 'tards who leech off of more popular IPs that they don't even like, and then Yudkowsky goes on to demonstrate there are even lower depths man might sink to: he wrote a goddamn isekai light novel.

Huh, mostly my impression of this guy and Datasecretslox is he is one of Saint Eliezer's angriest defenders and any criticism will start him seething at a mile a minute. I suppose he likes to claim he's "neutral" about Yud then goes on massive triple-posting rants about "how fucking dare you idiots disagree with him, none of you understand his holy teachings like I do."

I liked the reminder of this thread (archive), also mentioned in the comments, where they permabanned someone for negrating and then found out that banned users could still rate posts. Null is right about stickers.

I found it completely unreadable and I've even read some of the notoriously awful superlength autism fanfics.

How do these people ever find the time to work on their magic AI future when they're so busy writing full blown manuscripts telling people to stop being faggots.

I found it completely unreadable and I've even read some of the notoriously awful superlength autism fanfics.

It started off interesting and seemed as though it would be a series giving basic explanations of scientific, etc. principles while poking fun at the Harry Potter universe. However, it didn't take too long for it to turn into something else entirely and become a slog. It's not unreadable, but it quickly becomes apparent that Yudkowsky considers himself more clever a writer than he actually is and had no editor to keep him in check. Like so many writers, he liked the smell of his own farts a bit too much and wound up shitting all over the page.

Mixed fiction and non-fiction with no warning label on where the transition occurs is the sort of thing that can end with false information stuck in somebody's head and propagating. Spoilers or not, I'd put a warning sign on it.
Thats funny, I learned when playing MGS3 the other day that there were nuclear tanks with legs and thrusters during the Cold War. You can learn a lot from fiction

This is the whole problem with Yuddo the Clown. He's the very definition of a midwit who considers himself a genius.
