I am part of a group of 40 or so people on facebook that discuss political and cultural issues. Mostly a very liberal crowd. I appreciate that they make efforts to be progressive and enlightened, but sometimes they take it too far. There is a gigantic thread in the group right now about Gentleman Elliot, and all any of them can talk about is misogyny. All I'm seeing from them is "we need anti-misogyny and anti-rape curriculum in our schools!"
Jesus titty-fucking christ, these people are my friends, but what a bunch of goddamn tryhards. I had to restrain myself from getting too angry when I posted to tell them this case is not about rape or misogyny. It is about a violent sociopath. Christ! Every one of them is so quick to take any excuse to remind everyone who'll listen "I support women! I am in favor of gender equality!" I pointed out that even if he were getting head from Victoria's Secret models three times a day, he'd find some other excuse to hate the world. I pointed out that not a one of them seems the least bit concerned that 3 of his victims were his male asian roommates, who he murdered because he thinks asians are genetically inferior. I pointed out that not a one of them seems the least bit concerned about addressing mental illness and the impact it has. And I pointed out that he was not a rapist. Rapists decide that women owe them sex. This guy never once made an aggressive move at a woman, or even sought sex in any way at all. He daydreamed about sex, and then later decided people just deserve to die. Even if you found a way to effectively teach mouth breathers "don't rape", what the fuck would it have to do with this incident?
Fuck, I'm sorry, this was more a rant about my idiot friends and their enlightened liberal dickmeasuring than anything else. But Pikimon's hot-potato allegory makes me think that a lot of you are seeing similar shit from people who want to point fingers as quick as they can just to pat themselves on the back.
