Have I got a story for you friends
So I used to be quite buddy buddy with this one guy for a few years. We had a few things in common (we both browsed 4chan, had post ironic memes injected into our bloodstream, both used tumblr, etc). The one thing that always bothered me were our actual conversations. It would always be about something that we saw online yesterday that was funny, or just conversations about something one of us knew about but the other didn't. Our relationship was basically "lol funny meems"
So, I had my own little SJ phase from about August of 2013 till August of 2014. Around October of '13, I decided to cut ties with him, because of the things I mentioned before and because of his "creepy" attitude. Keep in mind, I was a brat back then, so the way I broke the news to him was admittedly harsh and not the best way to break off a relationship.
He freaked the fuck out. Did not take it very well. I apologized to him later that year, but besides that, we never really talked anymore. Around summer of '14, he moved to another country, and that August, I finally got out of my SJ/generally unpleasant person mindset.
FAST FORWARD TO earlier this month, when I find his tumblr blog by chance. Turns out he's become a hypersexual AND a hyperromantic. Also found out he's psychotic, severely autistic and has an eating disorder, and goes by he/it/they. His content is on a whole other level. This boy has become Narcissus incarnate. Constantly posting selfies with guilt tripping captions ("reblog this iff u luv me", "if you dont reblog this ur a bad person"), and sayingg shit like "please someone love me" in an attempt to gain sympathy and attention. When an anon was criticising him for being narcissistic, he replies with "lol say that to my face!!! ur just jealous cus im fine with myself and u have seld esteem issues lmao!!!!!! bye!!!!". Projection much?
In the end, I have no regrets of cutting him off, even if it was harsh. If I didn't, I would have either

• stayed friends with him until I fell out of the whole SJ mindset and he would eventually cut ME out because I was being """"toxic/problematic"""" because I had a new worldview, OR
• I would have stayed friends with him and STILL be an SJW to this day because I would have surrounded myself with idiots like him

So I decided to go back to AlternateHistory.com to see what's gone on since I last showed up, and I found that one of the biggest posters was banned. I was curious on why so I looked through their last posts before then. One thread I looked at was on Doxxing, and one of the posters was... interesting.

It is appropriate when used in the social justice context I think. Social media gives public shaming a strong effect that can be used to expose the target and prevent them from covering up the extent of their crimes.

Sounds a bit off, but hey, maybe this fella means like whistleblowing or something. Sometimes it's fine to dox, like with a child abuser or something.

I think social justice movement in general does not give a lot of room for compromise, so if you make a stupid tweet, we will make you pay for it with blood and gold, even if the tweet is not out of bounds for First Amendment. That is the whole point, that no transgression will go unpunished, so this small measure of extremism might stimulate broader societal change so that we don't need to resort to this kind of thing in future.

If social justice advocates stay silent while transgressions occur on daily basis, that defeats the whole point of social justice advocacy.

It is a powerful weapon, like an arms race. If the enemies of social justice add this kind of tactic to their arsenal, we must reply in kind so that they know not to fuck with us.

Of course reactionaries elements dominate the mainstream narrative, so advocates of social justice movement are always demonized by the majority.

It isn't demonization when the statements are true. Like the fact that people like this tend to be feedbackophobic special snowflakes who want to control dialogue so that they're on top. Or the fact that they'll ally with people entirely on an ideological level, ignoring heinous crimes in the process. And hypocrisy, don't forget that.

Deterrence only works if you can demonstrate you have capability to deploy the weapon in question. So we needed to make a demonstration to that effect.

I used to hang out at my college's "Queer Resource Center", and the Tumblrina/SJW attitude was pervasive in some of the people. There were a couple of genderspecials there. I never figured out what weird genders they claimed to be, but they were pretty much just girls who wanted to be referred to by strange pronouns like ey/em or whatever. One of those girls told me how she would never date men, only because of their privilege. The other actually worked at the Center and was tasked with deciding which LGBT-themed books that were donated to us were worth keeping. I think she just wanted to get rid of most of the ones written by/about white cis males.

The best part was when she encountered the book Empowering the Tribe and led a few others in outrage about the appropriation of the word "tribe" from Native Americans. That was hilarious.

(I stopped hanging out there, partially because of these attitudes, but also because it lost its funding and had to severely cut back its hours.)

I'm pretty sure that person was calling the term "common sense" ableist. Either way to Tumblr having common sense = privilege = shitlord. Therefore you should have absolutely no common sense and act like you're an angry mentally handicapped person even though you're not handicapped in anyway if you want to make your opinion valid.

Someone earlier in the thread(I think it was @Jaimas but I could be wrong...)said that a good way to see tumblrinas in the wild is at creative writing classes.
I can confirm that. There was some kind of week-long workshop thing I was doing in the summer. On one of the days, we got into five different groups and had to make the outline for a tv show in a few hours. Trailer, pilot episode, a five-season plan, all that good stuff. We were designing the characters when this really quiet girl pipes up for the first time in the meeting and says something about us making too many of the hypothetical villains for our hypothetical show people of color, and that it could be taken as racist. Never mind that our put-together-in-five-hours show is never going to be on the air, and we just have to do this because it's part of the workshop, no we have to be culturally sensitive too.
She also pulled some shit about how we shouldn't make the villains have mental illnesses because that was offensive, too. None of the rest of us had even said anything about that, though. I finally said to her that trying to force diversity into a show often ends up forced and kind of preachy(I mean hey, look at Gen Zed).
That was not smart of me.
She goes ballistic, asking me "what? what's that? what's 'forced diversity?' Are you saying that diversity in a show is wrong? What are you talking about?" And so on. Meanwhile, everybody else is trying to get her to shut the fuck up because we are in the last hour of our time for completing this thing and the last thing we care about is if our character is Danish or Pakistani or Jewish.
Probably some other stuff that I forgot to mention, but she did some other tumblr-esque stuff, too. What really made me laugh while remembering all this is that by her own logic, she shouldn't have been arguing with me. By tumblr rules, she was oppressing me because I'm a "proud woman of color with immigrant parents" while this girl was an oh-so-privileged white chick.
But hey, what do I expect from tumblr if not hypocrisy?

This is absolutely true. The one time I encountered what would now be called a SJW was in, natch, creative writing class. Someone had told a polish joke (what's polish foreplay? *mimes sticking finger up nose, motioning towards the other person's nose with the corresponding finger on the other hand*), and the proto-SJW (this was the early 1990s) threw a fit. The guy who told the joke was incredulous, "What are you offended for, are you Polish or something?!" and the SJW was like "No, but I think we should be evolved past that" or words to that effect. I remember being completely floored at this early display of "PC" by being offended vicariously for someone else. Of course I'm older and more mature now, but when I think of SJWs, I think back to that individual back then. Overall, that lady was not a nice person.

At the pet supply store where I work part-time, I swear these two regular customers are straight out of tumblr. On the surface they're just a weird lesbian couple, but I wouldn't be surprised if one (or both) of them used fake pronouns. Whenever I ask if they need help finding anything, the fatter one always gives me the stink-eye and looks me up and down. Likely because I've addressed them as "ladies" once or twice, who knows. It's extremely obnoxious how they push their relationship in everyone's faces. They're constantly holding hands, which is fine, but I've caught them making out in the aisles before. They wear the tumblr uniform too. Pink and green hair. Leather fetish harnesses, enough "kawaii" pastel bullshit to make anyone puke.

The worst part is that they never even buy anything. They'll spend hours in the leash and collar section AND TRY THEM ON. One time the skinnier girl hooked the other to a leash that she hadn't yet purchased, then they walked around the store before leaving. There were kids around and everything, I was completely dumbfounded.

There's a place for fetishes (Folsom St. Fair, certain types of conventions) and there are places not for fetishes (Pet-whatever Co., Walmart- sweet jesus please no, daycares).
