whenever they have a video taking apart a AC->DC power supply (danger high voltage; capacitors can contain a lethal charge even if unplugged, etc.)
I think people, especially Adrian, get annoying with the warnings. It’s the same as those YouTubers who hand out seizure warnings whenever anything might flash the screen. It feels like a mantra more than an actual warning and almost a weird way to virtue signal.

Also, laying the warnings down thick might scare people out of repairing their stuff, and maybe even the whole hobby. It can be dangerous but it’s not really, once you’re aware of it.

Should David have said something? Maybe, but every single person watching his content already knows. I guarantee it.

What got me cranky about this was the Retro Man Cave guy had his pet tranny (why do they all have one?) over to help fix up a Sega multi-game cabinet. Thing had been off for, verifiably, two decades minimum. Still got out the resistor stick and performatively discharged the extremely at-ground-potential CRT while telling you that vindictive HV might just be hiding there. (They may have did this also to the other cabinet which was necked.)

While I don't recommend Shango's level of no-fucks for anyone who cares about their safety, I did think of his admonition that "CRT high voltage is nothing if you've ever gotten hit by a car ignition."

Shango does regularly mention how dangerous certain parts of a television chassis are. Any time he's measuring cathode current on a tube set, for example.

He goes out of his way to let the audience know that HE is crazy/experienced enough to do what he does, and how he has been bitten many times and is used to it, and how YOU the viewer should watch out.

I personally have been bit by many things, but the most surprising one was making my finger complete a circuit between a light bulb and a 6 volt power wheels battery. That left a long lasting mark and hurt like hell to 7 year old me.

To get the thread about David Murray back on track talking about David Murray:

Featuring an appearance by """"June"""" from Nybbles and Bytes after David realizes he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing (again) in trying to fix an European C128. He also doesn't even try fixing the monitor and tells the guy to send it to Adrian Black (who actually does know what he's doing, sometimes).
Deja Vu watching this video Adrian just put out:

In which he trifles with a power supply and, just like David, somehow becomes convinced that he doesn't need one of the power rails for the computer to function.

Surprise surprise, it doesn't work with just the 5v. Also, I thought he'd know better than to adjust 4.85v up, especially when the 12v rail was showing 12.3v. He wasted his own time doing that.

But hey, at least he works on compact macs! (after giving a bajillion warnings about how the analog boards are le scary and evil).

June looks like a cross between Liz Fong-Jones and Fran Blanche.

Adrian probably doesn't want to get sued if some bozo zaps themselves when opening up an old CRT monitor after seeing one of his repair videos, so I don't blame him for the disclaimers.

As soon as any of these retro computing channels mentions a "she" expert, even before they are onscreen you know it's always a troon. Retro man cave even rebranded to RMC because it had man in the original name, I guarantee that was troon influence as well.

One episode required an Amiga expert, the one they used was a troon living in Japan. Seriously going out of his way there ignoring any number of German autist men that are Amiga experts.

(And if anyone here doesn't know the Amiga community, there are a LOT of German autists.)

Yeah. I specifically didn't use the 'new name' because I feel that too. Can you imagine what it's like being Jeri Ellsworth, one of the very few actual cis women in retro, quietly accomplished in a sea of LOOK AT ME troons?

I was really confused by that at the time, like, who gives a fuck. There is nothing sexist about the phrase "man cave". At the time the troon shit just went right over my head.

Now it makes perfect sense.

Also, a while back I heard Perifractic was banging the Walmart chick. Any truth to this?

I instantly thought of Jan Beta when you said "German autist" and "Amiga expert". Though I won't be entirely surprised if he troons out one day.
If you hear a female name in these circles, it's 100% a troon. There are no exceptions.
Other than Jeri Ellsworth and Ms Mad Lemon. But for every real woman in the scene that actually does any legit tech stuff, there are at least 50 troons... so yeah, it's more like a 99% chance that a 'woman' in a retro tech video is a dude in a dress who may or may not have cut off their junk.

I'm certain he will join his """wife""" soon and become a troon which would be a shame because i like his videos

If you don't know the reference, this was an old linux mascot that was proposed in the 90s, it was revived by troons who then proceeded to do what they do and troon it up.

Funny Enough the dude behind this image is called "Cathode Gay Tube", I'm sure its a coincidence

One of my bigger worries is that people somehow get Xenia over as a replacement for Tux someday.

Made more sense if you peered into the comments. You legit had people celebrating cause, well, they're the kind who actually let the "man" part of "man cave" make them feel excluded. Even had a guy who was happy that his daughter could watch the content now.

Like what, you raised your girl to be stopped by things like that? Gee, gotta thanks RMC for changing his channel name to make up for your shitty parenting.
