That was..very hard to watch. Think I made it about two minutes before I couldn't be bothered anymore. It's amazing that guy has any subscribers at all.
There is absolutely no reason to buy a single exclusive on EGS. You don't reinforce bad behavior; you mock it mercilessly until the entity partaking in said behavior either falls in line or implodes. As it stands now, my money is most definitely on the latter..
Just ride out the temporary grief and feeling of loss over that game you really wanted to play. It'll get better in so much as a year's time as the Tencent/Epic "games exclusives" money pit dries up and EGS bears a whole bunch of rotten fruit in kind.
Every single shill or troll in this thread hasn't given me a single reason why I should use Epic. I want someone to tell me a practical reason I should use Epic over Origin, right now. Not a year from now, not it'll get better. Now. And not an emotional one. A practical, consumer-based reason that benefits me. They can't. Its simply not possible.
Its already getting bad for them. Devs were terrified of going on stage and saying Epic exclusive. And nobody ever fucking admits the real reason, because they're all lying faggots and cowards. Money. Just say its the fucking money. Everyone with a brain fucking knows, you aren't fooling shit. "OH THEY HELPED US SO MUCH" Fuck yourself, cunt. Nothing is worse than a greedy, lying cocksucker who fucks over people that trusted them.
Barely anyone has had the fucking balls to announce it right up front that they're going exclusive. They have to fucking deceive you to use their store. Deception, bribes and false advertising are the main things Epic is offering to people. And it still isn't working.
Video: "In a publicly traded company"
Epic isn't publicly traded you dumb ape. Unless I missed that news.
I'm sure he said some other words that maybe matter in that video, but when his defense about "Sweeny isn't lying" seems to heavily lean on this "fact" well I don't actually care what he says after that, and he sounds obnoxious so I doubly don't care to hear him out. The comments in that twitter are exceptional too. "Oh Steam gamerz are gonna be mad at E3 LOL" yeah we just had to screw over people's kickstarter for the revival of a cult classic people have wanted for nearly 2 decades to accomplish that. We need to own Steam, just like the libs, by any means necessary RISE UP DOWN WITH STEAM.
As
@AnOminous said, it isn't. It is privately held. Sweeny went for a deal with Tencent.
lol, does he even know why Epic went in with Tencent? Does he have a singular clue? Its because they saw that games were moving towards a 'games as service' model and wanted to get in on the action with Tencent and have them help them accomplish that. Why do you think Fortnite was made the way it was and they snapped up Autochess by a chink developer? Epic gaming does not intend to make 'PC gaming better' and have actively made it worse. Its probably some faggot shill who made that video or someone legitimately brain damaged who went on the 'Steam hate train' that's an old as fuck meme. People just hate Steam now to hate it.
If Epic were to fund a game on the scale of like Borderlands 3 or Control it would not come out for another 2-3 years from now. They want to replace Steam right now, not 2 years from now when people stop playing Fortnite and they go back to being irrelevant as a game developer.
If they don't get anything going this is going to be one of those cases where in a few years they lay off hundreds of people, apparently they're over 1000 employees right now which is crazy for a company that essentially only has 1 game.
Not that I think their current strategy is a great one or anything. I expect the whole thing to come crashing down a some point.
Honestly, I think they're too late on that point. They've basically destroyed their entire reputation. They've got one singular game and an engine, which if they hold over developer's heads like the mafia if they go to Steam, it will be avoided. People are very slow, especially these days, to adopt a new digital storefront since there are so goddamn many. And why are you going to adopt a platform worse than Origin mostly known for a casual game for children? They've also basically decimated any Kickstarter, since nobody in their right fucking mind is going to trust them. This strategy had to work hard and fast out of the gate, and it really hasn't. Also, with every 'exclusive' title for a AAA studio with a launcher, they risk people just buying it from that launcher, like Uplay.
Microsoft isn't going to go to them. They're going with Steam and cross-play for the time being. The Halo Collection being on Steam is better than any exclusive Epic currently has. Even Metro Exodus is on the Windows Store. How good did that exclusive deal REALLY work if they put it out on another storefront a few months after it went 'exclusive'? Their strategy is already not working. Their exclusivity deals reek of cancer and basically the first question everyone asks now is, 'Will it be an Epic exclusive?' Somebody even asked CYBERPUNK that question, even though CD Projekt has their own store. And Cyberpunk isn't even on Epic yet, so its losing out on those HYPE pre-orders after Keanu was one of this year's best moments at E3.
IMO, Shenmue III as an exclusive was a huge mistake. Most people who play games haven't heard of it. Most people who do remember it as this weird game with a hardcore audience that was on the Dreamcast. Who the fuck else is buying this except the people who backed it? Yakuza looks better in every way anyway, and I don't have any loyalty or nostalgia to the Shenmue series. Nor would I buy it from a bunch of slimy cocksuckers. So why are you paying millions, since Deep Silver is part of Koch Media and those greedy faggots aren't giving that away just for the Unreal Engine cut. So you have Shenmue III costing millions, have to abide by the even slimmer cut from it using the Unreal Engine and pissing off everybody who 1) Wanted this game and 2) Runs a Kickstarter. What was the point? Do they really think they're going to make any money on that deal? It just seems like Tim Sweeny hates Steam and is doing this out of spite. Its like he's shouting "NOTICE ME, DO SOMETHING, DO ANYTHING, WE'RE HERE, WE'RE GOING TO BEAT YOU" when he's already been gutshot and Steam is just watching him getting septic from his own shit, slowly dying and going "Why?" I also had to laugh when Sweeny basically tried to beg Steam to get out of the exclusive hole they dug with a cheap and obvious ploy that would hurt Steam more than any exclusive deal. So fucking transparent.
I see absolutely no point in them poaching Shenmue III. Its an extremely niche game which everyone who wanted it backed it. Completely illogical and frankly a bizarre move. They're trying to get Steam to react. The only thing Steam needs to stop is developers using their platform for free advertising then going exclusive. That's about all they really need to do. Because the entirety of this strategy is acting like a parasite off of Steam.
