Epic Games General Thread - Its time to talk about what the AAA gaming industry does not understand about the PC console.

It's absolute nonsense. Apple Store would be crazy to allow every malware manufacturer on them to allow monetary transactions for god knows what purposes. As if gacha isn't bad enough. They just want to be able to funnel money directly to themselves, as if anyone wants to do that. Apple will probably argue this effectively means they have to allow criminals and Chinese spies on their network freely to do whatever they like.

Trump should shut Epic down for being chink-owned.
Apple has every right to set limitations on the software available through their store, and to demand a cut of the profit that THEY and their hardware are earning for Epic. And Epic has no right to demand access to a market when alternatives exist or they are financially capable of making their own.
Just like a dev doesn't get to demand that Nintendo include their title on the Switch if Nintendo doesn't want to. If you don't like the iPhone and it's rules then you can go fuck off to Android.

And as for the Google lawsuit, holy fuck they're probably gonna get fucking assraped. Because here's the thing, you can install 3rd party apps on Android devices. It's why a LOT of people love Android, because there's a lot more freedom there. So Epic could have offered the free download for Fortnite.apk through their own website. Why did they decide to shackle themselves to Google's ToS when they could have avoided paying them a cut of the shekels?
Because Google Play actually gives you something. It hosts your downloads, it provides update services, and it FUCKING ADVERTISES YOUR GODDAMN APP.
You know how many times I've gone onto Google Play Store and the first fucking thing I see is Fortnite being "promoted" or "recommended"? More than I can fucking count.

These greedy, entitled leeches think Google and Apple owe them free hosting, free update service, and free advertising and they want them to kiss their fucking asses for the privilege of making them absurd amounts of low investment, high payout money without anything to show for it on Apple or Google's end.

afaik that's how epic did it in the beginning, but the normie zoomer demographic they're catering to probably isn't big on sideloading, so it was either get all the money or pay google 30% which is still more than they got originally.

really, the more I think about the more retarded this whole move is. yes, fortnite makes a good sum of money, but it's not like apple needs fortnite on their phones. neither does google, nor samsung. so when epic loses, what's the next step in timmy's master plan? apply to get back onto the store like a little bitch? great pr move, prolly gonna work well with their demographic after they mobilized them with their retarded hashtag. what if apple says "ye, well, nope"? I doubt sony/ms would drop the game too (they still need access to the engine), but it would be hilarious if timmy's antics finally catch up to him and he just euthanized that cash cow over night.

I've played Zombie Army 4 the other day, it's completely dead on the EGS. Rebellion could have saved it by adding cross-play (like World War Z did a few months ago) but they don't seem to give a fuck.
From what I recall Rebellion pretty much admitted they were surprised that EGS even wanted to take this game on their store and they're more busy working on that Evil Genius remake than bother much with Zombie Army 4

Also about the whole Epic lawsuit thing, you can add them getting sued for using an actually existing "Coral Castle" which is like a museum. So, they had that appear in their game, where people can pay actual money to explore it, but never contacted a guy who has this actual museum, so now he's suing their asses.

they probably figured they still make more money this way, which is all this exclusivity shit is all about. don't think strange brigade was that successful, so they might've been hurting for money on top.
I think you're right. I completely forgot about Strange Brigade. I remember watching the trailer, thinking: "what the fuck is that?". I guess they wanted to milk the formula like Starbreeze Studios with their Payday framework and it failed hard.

Don't you love it when a company worth billions due to lucking out with a children's game decides that it deserves more money? Gotta keep funneling money to EGS, it's sure to pay off within a year or two... people will buy games on it right... right?

Reminds me of King, the makers of Candy crush.
Did you know they had a worldwide trademark on the word "Candy", so that it can't be used as the subject title or subject of any entertainment product that isn't their's?
They also claimed worldwide trademark for the word "Saga" later, but it was quickly contested on all fronts by Square (Saga frontier, Romancing SaGa), Nevrax (Saga of Ryzom) and others, ending up costing them a huge amount. Their answer was to try to spam shovelware titles with "saga" in the name.

They used to be worth billions, and were bought up for 6 of them by Actard (Activision Blizzard) in 2016. Actard is now in total worth 4.16B in last year's evaluation.

The only game I ever played on EGS was BanHam: Knight and I had to run it through steam to get my PS4 controller working. Thank you Tim Sweeny, very cool.
If only GOG got use instead of them but the only reason EGS even has a chance is because they got money to burn from Fortnite V-bucks.

I dont care who wins between Epic, Apple and Google. I hate all three and the only outcome that is acceptable to me is that all three lose millions of dollars in expensive litigation and pay for their lawyers to send all their kids to law school so they can scalp the next generation of businesses of money they could have used elsewhere. Thus insuring the circle of legal life is complete.

Epic is just suing for the legal right to steal directly from children. There is no such legal right and if they get their way, thievery is legalized even more than it was already. Thievery is bad. Epic is bad. China is bad.

less payday, it's basically nazi zombie army: pulp edition. I enjoyed the fuck out of it, but always felt it was overpriced since it becomes repetitive fast. you can get it pretty cheap these days tho. the other difference is it wasn't a shitshow like payday, it failed because lack of interest/marketing.

Io-Interactive announced that HITMAN 3 will be available first on the Epic Store for it's 2021 release, and will then be added to Steam in 2022. It's disappointing news for sure, but given how IOI will be self-publishing the game, it's sort of understandable why they chose to do so. And Steam players who own HITMAN 2016 and HITMAN 2 will still be able to carry over their progress to H3 on EGS, presumably via IOI account.

Oh well, time will tell if the EGS hate will make a big dent in sales, given how the HITMAN games were never really big sellers compared to other much larger video game franchises.

The funny thing about this, I've seen people who understand why IOI took this deal in the 1st place. Not only are they self-publishing, but they apparently have money problems since they had to buy out the rights for Hitman and I think even Freedom Fighters. Though, while Epic will cover the development of the game, I do wonder if they'll last a year..unless sales on the consoles prove to be good.

Thats the dream, or at least its been the dream for everyone born past 1944: start a business make it big using shady dealings, sell it off at its peak worth before the house of cards falls. Boom its someone else's problem.

While all 3 companies are pieces of shit, I mentioned this in the lawsuit thread: Epic is the biggest faggot among them and Fortnite deserves no special treatment. Which it shouldn't get. Sweeny just gets triggered and weeps into his pillow at 30% like a bitchmade faggot and sues because of it. I hope both Apple and Google bleed his and his Chink masters completely dry.

Also I don't see how in the fuck it is legal to go 'WAHH I'M USING THEIR SERVICE BUT THEY'RE CHARGING TOO MUCH'. Businesses aren't allowed to operate freely now, Tim you stupid fuck? How about you make your own mobile store you dumb bitch. Oh, its because you want the free advertising and shit. Seriously, fuck Epic.

The problem is there was so much carry over with the new Hitman games on Steam, nobody is going to want to bother hooking up 2 extra accounts (Epic and probably and IOI one) to just get their progress over to 3. Its not going to work. Steam wins because of convenience. They'll basically be relying on console sales in order to make a profit off of it. Because PC users are not going to go through the hassle of switching now after 2 sequels went extremely big on Steam. If it was their only option, fine, but Epic's market share is so small.

Same with Mortal Shell. Though I think that's going to sell far more on console than PC through Epic just because Epic's controller support is absolute trash and playing a Soul's game with a mouse and keyboard is physically painful

Thanks again Tim! Can't wait the pirate the game for free day one and then buy the complete edition at 70% off when they inevitably bring it to Steam.

I think it's more epic betting on something happening in Washington that will go againts Apple and Google, and it seems like the reelection of Donald Trump.
Edit:
Microsoft join in against Apple .

Now I'm really hoping that none of these companies cuck out. The world needs this 2-on-2 thunderdome match.

Honestly, I can see IOI mostly using Epic to make sure their game development is fully covered, while the console sales are gonna be their main source. However, there will probably be those who'll jump on this because of the whole "Muh dun care where muh buys games!" thing, so they might even go through the process of linking accounts.

I play Souls with a mouse and keyboard. It's fine.

I think it's an indirect attack on Steam. They're trying to get a precedent that companies can't sell access to their platform by demanding a cut of the profits for doing it, and it's easier to make a case sounding an antitrust of some sort against a company like Apple that sells hardware, software, network access, platforms, and all kinds of other things when they're in control of all these things, arguably like a vertical trust.

Then if they get a favorable precedent, they can take the same line of attack against Steam where it would not have been as easy to make the case at the outset, since Steam's whole business model is the single aspect of selling access to a platform. Think of Steam as like a pimp, you get to be one of the whores in the stable at the cost of giving up a cut to the pimp.

Epic is an uppity bitch that is headed for a pimp slapping.
