Mary explicitly offers her consent. From Luke 26:38:

"In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.”

I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her."

I don't think I've ever heard God referred to as a rapist before, holy shit. Even the most euphoric atheists usually leave the Mary issue alone as, like I demonstrated, she gives her consent. In fact, many Christians (especially Catholics) greatly revere Mary for her humility and grace before God, especially considering how many prophets (such as Jonah and Moses) originally tried to worm their way out of their duties.

Also, he burns books? Oh wow. Please tell me he also goes on about how important knowledge and free speech are, the irony would be so delicious.
Oh the irony in atheists always slamming Christians about not reading their Bible and making claims that directly contradict said Bible... and then go ahead and make claims that explicitly contradict the source they are claiming to have "researched."

This isn't even worthy of the irony police. It just deserves to be beaten with the irony baton for how fucking oblivious these guys are sometimes.

If the Bible's to be believed, God had an established history of exacting disproportionate retribution upon people who say no to him. Sure, Mary might have said yes, but when a strange glowing man breaks into your house and tells you to have Jehovah's baby, not many women in her position would have the balls to say no. I wouldn't blame them.

Just saying, it's still rape if she says yes but doesn't mean it.

Oh God said to Abraham, “Kill me a son”
Abe says, “Man, you must be puttin’ me on”
God say, “No.” Abe say, “What?”
God say, “You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin’ you better run”
Well Abe says, “Where do you want this killin’ done?”
God says, “Out on Highway 61”

Taken from https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/u...ew-rape-definition-frequently-asked-questions:

The old definition was “The carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will.” Many agencies interpreted this definition as excluding a long list of sex offenses that are criminal in most jurisdictions, such as offenses involving oral or anal penetration, penetration with objects, and rapes of males.

The new Summary definition of Rape is: “Penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.

So I was reading an article about that stampede in Mecca that killed like 800 people a couple of weeks ago and found these comments, all top rated:

Keep it classy. It's totally appropriate to air out your grievances about sky daddies and fairy tales when we're talking about the deaths of hundreds of people.

I wouldn't be surprised by them being the bottom rated comments but top rated :cryblood:

Terrible.

Apparently, these obnoxious commentators' egos are more important than the unfortunate deaths of 800 people. And their grieving families/friends.

Give an asshole anonymity and an audience and all sorts of nastiness comes out of the woodwork.

What if it were a non-religious event like a concert? I can imagine their crocodile tears.

When you are grieving you don't go read internet comments about the event.

Plenty of people who don't care about the victims discuss all sort of implications.

This goes from 9/11 to the war in Ukraine to Syria to anything else.

As much as how they can say religion is to blam because this happened in a city that is considered holy, this sort of thing can still happen without religion. The last one in particular almost makes it sound like the deaths were intentional in the name of said "sky-daddy". Because this totally wouldn't happen if there wasn't religion (even though there are other stampede sort of events killed people, and not all of them included religion).

It's pretty much agreed by everyone that stampedes happen in Mecca because of a combination of poor planning on the part of the Saudis and reckless behavior on the part of the pilgrims. Packing millions of people into a city that's not that big to begin with is always going to end with some casualties.

Also, I just want to point out that, to Muslims, the absolute best time and place to die is while on the hajj (the pilgrimage to Mecca). They believe that they'll go directly to heaven. So while euphorics are smugly holding this up as an example as to why God can't be real (because if He was, why would He let people die during such a holy event?), the Muslims involved are probably comforted that, if their loved ones had to die, it was during the hajj.

Like, I'm a Midwestern Catholic girl and I know this. Don't a lot of these people profess to know more about religions than their followers do?

The funniest thing is that those blades' edges are dull.

26 memes. At least they aren't advice animal knock-offs. Gotta like the one that says creationist "tank up on fossil fuels". Because that means anyone driving a gasoline car is a creationist despite otherwise.

Edit: I got the joke (fossil fuels being millions of years old). The creationist thing would apply to young earth creationist. Outside of that, also gotta like the one that used Hitler. Wasn't Hitler more of some sort of pragmatic opportunist who riled the masses using words that stroked their egos?

Yeah, it's not like there haven't been any religious scientists. Or religious figures who encourage people to care about the environment.

Jesus Christ, these people are fucking embarassing. It's like, the only religious people are fundamentalists, and it's all a black and white world. (Fortunately, most of the atheists I know are sane and are more concerned about actual, important issues, like people who want to teach creationism in public schools, put the Ten Commandments in front of the court house, etc). I've been told by these fedora-tippers that moderate, liberal theists are the worst. Because somehow only the fundamentalists are the ones taking the Bible completely at its word, but the moderates are picking and choosing, or making things up, or something. How spergy can you get?

Ugh, those people are the worst.

Pope Francis (like John Paul II before him) has been doing a lot to reform the Church, trying to make it more modern and accessible. Even if you're not a Catholic or don't even like Catholicism, I think most people agree that Pope Francis has been doing wonders. And yet, with every article about a new reform, there's always at least one asshole who smugly asserts that it's all just a desperate grab at maintaining power and staying relevant and how it's just delaying Catholicism religion dying out.

Oh, I'm sorry, do you want to go back to when scientists were shunned and persecuted? As much as these fedoras love to bitch about religion, it has some incredible benefits, and it's better to maximize those benefits while minimizing the drawbacks... which is what Pope Francis is trying to do.

Also, a lot of these schlubs love to quote Jesus in order to emphasize the hypocrisy of some Christians (which, to be fair, some Christians are painfully hypocritical), but then get all huffy when a Christian genuinely tries to live by Christ's example. Make up your fucking minds already.
