I don't know what else I expected from Tumblr, but holy shit that blog is pure cancer.

Even presented with a target as deserving as Yandere Simulator, a game that is almost nothing but creepy pandering bullshit created by a man programming one-handed, tumblrinas somehow manage to completely fuck up. They're shooting at drunk, stunned, retarded fish in a barrel, and they're missing. When they're not bitching about how awful it is that anyone could find anything redeeming about a man who objectifies lesbians (archive) while massively fetishizing gay men themselves (archive), they're coming up with stupid pairings and the usual bullshit 'headcanons' about why everyone is gay (archive) and poly (archive) and then screaming about how oppressed they are for their ships (archive) while merrily shitting on anyone who ships something they disapprove of (archive).

The blog updates about a million times a day, so they've got other strings to their bow. First off, there's posting reaction images of whatever the fuck this is (archive), and of course there's just being plain moronic (archive). Another favorite is pillorying YanDev for failing to toe the tumblr-approved lineabout the holy trinity of POC representation in a game set in Japan (archive), fellating tra.nsgirls (archive) or the goddamn Pulse massacre (archive). Oh, and of course they frequently discuss how they'd improve the storyline and, because this is tumblr we're talking about, coming up with shit that is somehow ten million times worse than YanDev's garbage fire of a game.

ANONYMOUS SENT: YANSIM AU: AYANO IS STILL MENTALLY ILL, BUT IT'S ACTUALLY WELL-WRITTEN THIS TIME. SHE HAS A CRUSH ON A GIRL IN HER GRADE AND SOMETIMES FOLLOWS HER AROUND BECAUSE SHES NONVERBAL AND DOESNT KNOW HOW TO EXPRESS HER FEELINGS. (1/3)
ANONYMOUS SENT: THE FEELINGS ARE MUTUAL, AND THE GIRL TRIES TALKING TO AYANO, BUT IS AWARE OF HER MENTAL ILLNESS SO SHE KNOWS TO TAKE BABY STEPS. EVENTUALLY THEY GET CLOSE AND THE GIRL REVEALS SHE'S POLY AND DATING THE RIVALS. AYANO SLOWLY LEARNS TO ACCEPT THIS (2/3
ANONYMOUS SENT: WHEN AYANO SAYS SHE'S READY, HER AND HER CRUSH START DATING. SHE IS INCREDIBLY HAPPY AND HAS FUN WITH HER GIRLFRIEND AND METAMOURS. NO ONE DIES OR IS HURT IN ANYWAY. NO ONE IS SEXUALIZIED. YANDERE DEV HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS. (3/3)
How cringy is this shit? Meet SJW-Chan, a character who must originally have been intended as a joke but whom a worrying number of these autists seem to have started taking dead seriously, to the extent several different people have been drawing crappy fanart of her because they think she and her tran.s pride socks are so cute (archive).

SJW-Chan is a fat tran.s poly lesbian dangerhair of color who doesn't need no stinking senpai (archive) and who's dating a Muslim girl because of course she fucking is, and this is somehow supposed to be an improvement. Congratulations, tumblrtards: you've made YanDev's shit smell like roses.

I can empathize with feeling miffed that someone you had faith in turned out to be a scummy narcissist and expert bullshit artist, seeing as it's an unfortunately common sight in the indie games scene, but I wouldn't go so far as to call him a criminal. Don't let Eva, or any cow for that manner, get you passionately pissed off. Him and his project will fade into obscurity eventually, it really is only a matter of time.

I bet this year's gonna be his downfall. The fanbase may be growing, but the opposition is growing as well and not every new fan is suffering from Stockholm syndrome.

This whole shit reminds me of Twilight, ugh. And Stephenie Meyer did do her own work, unlike our YanDaddy

^ that blog, for the first bit it was a bit of cringe at best...now the cringe is so bad you can make diamonds out of it..."kawaii mentally ill yan-chan ^_^" "pansexual desugender masukin demib0i lesbian gf ^_^ " "look at the smol gays! dev would be so much better if he listened to us! make ayano a polygender smol gay transb0i"

I think i'd rather read Eva's weeby cringe over this. I try to hope...maybe it's just a troll, that it's all a joke...but it's tumblr so...:cryblood:

You'd think someone who lurks 4chan for the approval of a bunch of anons and claims he doesn't want to "appeal to normies" wouldn't have conceived a fanbase that's so out of his depth. These are the kinds of people he says he didn't intend to make the game for, yet they seem like the most vocal part of the Yandere Simulator "community".

This looks like poe's law to me. It's extremely retarded, even for Tumblr, but I have a gut feeling that they're being totally genuine. I'd really, really like to be proved wrong though.

Don't worry, they're not. They made her as a parody character, made for the purpose of getting people like Alex angry and to be a joke.
Oh thank fuck for that. I dunno what's worse, the fact that I was fooled by the ruse or the fact that I wouldn't have been surprised if it wasn't a ruse *sigh*

Also I went back to check out the June Progress Update video to see how many views it got and something in the comments section caught my eye.

I actually wanna go more into detail about the Graphteon Data we have at hand because the data represents his supporters... not only the underage girl fanbase, but rather the ones, who actively pay Yandere Dev for making Easter Eggs.

YanPatreon.png

YandereDevs funding grows slowly, so does his Patreon fanbase. Basically speaking his fanbase grows steadily with some cuts, but these don't matter in the long run. His funding however fluctuates greatly, while still growing.

My thoughts:
- The first half until November 2015 is kinda irrelevant. Nothing really happens, no sharp increase or decline, just normal healthy growth. It's kinda interesting though, how it kinda stagnates from August 2015 to November. The patreon base doesn't grow, his funding stays pretty much the same... and he already generates ~4150 to 4450 Shekels.

- The first interesting stop is November the 13th. Funnily enough that day was actually a Friday. :story: For one week his income alternates between 4,3k and 3,4k Shekels. I tried checking out his blog for those days, nothing major occured. He updated the school during that time, his blog entry is called November Progress Update, there was also a bugfix one day later. So basically nothing happened. This whole week are kinda weird, I don't know what could have happened on these days. The Patreon base also fluctuated between 700 and 800 poor souls, I don't know why it changed so drastically. So 100 people pledging approxiametly something between 5 and 10 Shekels decided to stop supporting him, but then did support him, but didn't and... what? Never mind.

- Next stop: December 9th/10th. YandereDev loses nearly 1k Shekels and 100 Patreons. What happened? On his blog, there was a generic no content update (delayed of course) on December 2nd, (fingerprints, gloves), then there was some shit about "paid volunteers" on December 4th (nice choice of words, you :autism: ), some uproar on December 5th (Clarifying Yesterday's Blog Post) and something about Original Characters on December 7th. That's actually more blog output than usually. And on December 9th, there was yet another bitch fit about emails and this is when his 100 Patreons including nearly 1k Shekels dropped out of the project. Sadly that wasn't the last time, he bitched about emails, he did tone it down though. I even recall him ridiculing himself in one video, going sarcastically: "Boohoo, game devs have it so hard answering emails". It reminds me of some youtuber NFKRZ commented on, who had serious mental problems and vlogged about it, then just downplayed it by making a reaction video of his vlog. How pathetic is that kind of behaviour?

- Next stop: New Years Eve 2015. YanDev added clubs, reviewed some data on his blog and the development of his not-so-hidden-easter-egg "game" and... yeah. I don't think anything scandalous happened here, it's just that most parents of the childish fanbase said they would stop pledging after 2015. 3118.03 Shekels were his low point. What I would do with that much free money...

- Next stop: January 12th 2016. For some reason he gained a 500 Shekel Patreon on the exact day he was making a blog post about YanSim being renamed. OK? Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

- Next stop: January 23th 2016. Sharp increase in funding after his game is being banned from Twitch. Oh god, they protect him. :stress:
Even after he's made yet another blog post on emails on January 15th.

- Next stop: Every 1st of a month. He manages to lose a shitload of money, but then always gets back on track. I ignored the patreons, but they do seem to get less and spend less money on average. My hunch is that the meaty backers back off. ;)
1st of February, photography club, -250 Shekels. Full recovery after 7 days.
1st of March, delinquents added (delayed), -300 Shekels. Full recovery after 9 days.
1st of April, April Fools easter eggs + no additions, -1000 Shekels. Half recovery after just one single day, full recovery after 12 days.
1st of May, rival expulsion, -900 Shekels. Near instant recovery after three days, full recovery after 17 days, some decline involved in the process.
1st of June, friendship and betrayal update, -1000 Shekels. Half recovery after three days, full recovery after 10 days. (Note: A lot of the skirt and stealth abomination happened here, didn't really have an impact on his fundings though)
1st of July, YanDev seen in real life, -800 Shekels. 2/3 recovery after 3 days.

So as you can see, our CareerCow somehow manages to steadily grow. I do find the recent events somehow frightening to say the least. Does anyone have any plausible explanation on why his backers return to him?

My amateur theory is that Yandere Simulators presence on YouTube, the only media platform Eva has been utilizing to advertise his game, has been fluctuating due to big channels occasionally giving him exposure.

There are a couple channels, like "Kubz Scouts" (Yes, they're as cringe worthy as you could've interpret from the name alone) that consistently make Yandere Simulator videos and get some pretty good views, but when an extremely big YouTuber like Markiplier for example makes a video, which isn't quite as often, I imagine Eva's blog and his patreon gets a significant boost in traffic for as long as that video is relevant to Markiplier's fans. Then I imagine that doners trickle out for a variety of reasons, but their spots are filled in by those who are fresh off the latest big YouTuber's video centered around Yandere Simulator.

In a nutshell, so long as big YouTubers keep pumping out videos about Yandere Simulator, Eva will keep getting gullible folk to throw their bux at him.

They come back because they assume "Yandev means no harm" and "everyone makes mistakes". They probably take a few looks at the following dev blogs and that's when eva does his large "bug-fixing progress"reports. You even know he does it on purpose because he doesn't even only put the bug-fixes but also the bugs he ATTEMPTED to fix but didn't actual fix in order to trick you.:story:

A long time ago he said that the counselor will be able to call you to her office and give you less harsh punishments. But, easter eggs obviously take priority. :suffering:

I did the unthinkable and downloaded Yandere Simulator to playtest.
Software
-The game crashed once when I tried to close it down while it loaded.
-"Confirm" is mapped to the E key and not to Enter. Escape is mapped to Q and not the Esc key. This is unacceptable.
-Unimplemented features are clickable, but not usable. They should not be in the game at all.
-The GUI is unacceptably unwieldy for no reason. It works like a Kinect game's GUI.
-There is no option to quit, only an option to go back to the main menu, which is unacceptable.
-The prologue and title screen seem to be in the wrong order.
-Is this supposed to be a parody game, or an serious game? The prologue doesn't make this clear.
-"Not even 5% finished" is unacceptable after two years in development.
-Yandere-chan's walking speed is very slow. It has to be half the human walking speed.
Graphics
-With graphics on "Fastest" setting, the game still lags. My computer can play Minecraft and TF2 at 120 FPS each. Unacceptable.
-The rigging on Senpai is very poor. His arm collapses like a plastic bottle during animations
-Everybody has the same face. Unacceptable.

Gameplay
-Why are there random weapons on the grass outside the school?
-When the students show up to school, sometimes a girl will be walking on the head of another girl.
-It's not really clear to me how to play the game, which is a problem I've never had before.

Yeah, unless you have a controller, its very annoying to play-- kgftbz if you lurk here can you please have a vanilla copy of it available that works purely for keyboards?

Remember when there was that issue with the cello case? it was cause he only made it unequipable by controller only making it impossible to remove if you used a keyboard

This is the main reason why I think that Yandere Simulator is a pipe dream. Even if Eva was decent with his fans and was less of a lazy fuck, I don't think anything can compensate for his terrible programming skills. Yandere Simulator is so horrifically un-optimized that he can't even maintain a stable framerate on videos that are meant to advertise the fucking game.

Yeah, it's not even an alpha and yeah, he intends to use the money from the Kickstarter he has planned to hire actual programmers, but when? How can he expect people to stay invested in such a broken atrocity of a game for as long he thinks it'll take to finish it?

It's my first post here although I've been reading for a while. Considering all the noise about this game, the disaster level is kind of incredible, but I've seen plenty of people like Yanderedev in my time and they all follow certain thought patterns when it comes to game design.
That choice point I just quoted is actually quite typical of that dev stereotype, and it serves a few purposes:
A) Make the game seem more advanced than it really is. B) It's "easy work" C) Ensure ownership of ideas

What does this tell us? What we already know, obviously, but for the sake of discussion, let me elaborate:
Point A is exactly what it says in the tin, showing WIP or unavailable features is a simple way to make the project seem more grandiose. Point B is also fairly obvious, it means faux-content that can be added by just modifying a few lists, and can be rationalized as work by someone with a very lazy workflow.

Point C is the most important here, and a staple of devs with big but frail egos, they can't stand the idea of someone suggesting something to them and being able to claim an idea as theirs, he wants absolute control over the project, and by putting the feature in there, he prevents someone saying "do this", which in their mind is calling dibs to "an idea", therefore making that feature "the property of the one who suggested it". This makes absolutely no sense, and I completely agree, but some people really believe in this. If you need further evidence, yandev has shown derision towards suggestions at several points. He wants full control so he can get full credit. While my assertion makes little sense on its own, reading the thread it makes more sense, specially if you read his conversation with Skullgirls' creator.

Now, while wanting full control over a project is not all that bad of a thing by itself, there is a conflict, a bit of a rookie mistake a lot of people in that stereotype commit. If they want full control of the "ideas" in the game...they shouldn't release the game early. "release-early-release-often" dev models are usually for community-oriented projects, where the developer expects player feedback to implement ideas and have the game grow organically. For someone who wants absolute creative control, it's a terrible idea.

But we all can guess why yandev is shooting himself in the foot with this, really: he wanted immediate asspats and praise and released the game to the wild as soon as it was barely "playable". The only difference with several hundred devs that do this stuff is that he got lucky with the youtube coverage. In that aspect he's kind of one-of-a-kind, the guy. He's in a position several devs would kill for, and he's totally taking the worst possible decisions with that privilege in hand.

This. Everything you said was absolutely spot on, but this is an especially common occurrence amongst devs like Eva and is a trend that needs to die within the indie development community. Another developer (and I use the term extremely loosely in regards to people like this), Ryhan Stevens, put his shitty furry fighting game up on multiple crowdfunding sites, including Kickstarter and Indiegogo, and made multiple campaigns for each site, always opening up a new one every time the prior campaign failed.

This meant that he was essentially taking peoples money through multiple crowdfunding campaigns to develop a single fucking game. He released a playable demo of the game, but like Yandere Simulator, it was absolutely riddled with bugs and was clearly only shoved out to appease his supporters and get some asspats, even though the game was shit. Of course, he ended up completely abandoning the project in the end, he ceased all development of the game and walked out with his supporter's money, cutting all ties with the people involved in the games production and the people who sponsored him, like Maximillian Dood and Egoraptor.

Stuff like this is the actual cancer of the gaming industry, and I can only see history repeating itself with Yandere Simulator, albeit at a much more gradual pace.

Coincidentally, Mike Z was supposedly this guys inspiration, and Mike even offered to help develop the game by offering his talents and insight. But Ryhan lost that opportunity when he decided to take Mike's criticism of the games rockey development progress as a personal attack, and rebutted with a wall text full of excuses and bullshit on the game's official forum. Like Eva, he is a fucking idiot.

edit: I should've stated this from the beginning, but the name of the game Ryhan was scamming people with was "Beast's Fury" in case any of you are curious about that clusterfuck.

I thought the low FPS was my laptop's fault, i'm glad it's not the case, caz i can play New Vegas at 60 fps so it makes no fucking sense that a pathetic ugly sandbox like YandereSim doesn't run well.

It's amazing that he took so much inspiration from the Hitman franchise but failed to realize what made those games engaging. It sure as fuck ain't panty shots, that's for sure. The one good thing to come out of this is that the popularity of Yandere Simulator has ensured that it'll eventually be met with some competition, sooner or later someone'll make the game that fans of the original Hitman games are looking for.

This is what angers me. For a guy that is supposedly a great stealth games fan, Alex has no idea how stealth games are supposed to "feel", i bet he plays them games just like DSP, going into first person mode and shooting everyone. The hardest way should involve the minimum violence as possible but he keeps adding more and more ways to kill people. This list of ways to kill is pointless the moment the next rival acts a different way (just like hitman's targets). It's like his fighting game, he just adds as many "features" as possible to make look big/good.

Oh thank fuck for that. I dunno what's worse, the fact that I was fooled by the ruse or the fact that I wouldn't have been surprised if it wasn't a ruse *sigh*

It's way worse than that, you know what happens if a (not senpai) student witness you kill someone? It just gives you -10 reputation per day and get's you kicked out of your club. You know what happens if they find the body? The school atmosphere drops, which means the next time they see you killing someone you will lose 15 or 20 reputation. All you need to do is get rid of the weapon and wash your uniform and you're clean of any framing.

That's right, you dont get a game over for that. Oh, Did that girl just watch you kill and mutilate her best friend, sister and 8 other students? She'll just stop talking with you and tell the other surviving students (that why you lose reputation).

latest

Thankfully she won't tell the cops or Senpai so it's ok.

:powerlevel:I can't even explain how retarded this is. Who gives a fuck about reputation, or strategy at all, just stab your rival in the neck when she arrives the school and run away home yolo. Or if a witness is giving you trouble, just kill them too. That's one less person to get in your way and they won't live to drain your reputation. It's a stealth game where there is no game over for getting caught and you get rewarded for murdering as many as you can. :powerlevel:

I know I'm preaching to the choir about this shitfest, but he sure isn't a game developer with the way he's designing the game. Yeah I know it's not going to get finished by him, but hear me out.

He cites Hitman as a huge inspiration, and throws in all these mechanics and situations and tactics to kill Senpai's crushes. Yet the only way you could possibly figure them all out or employ them is if you're informed of at least some of them at some point, and find other methods out on your own because of what the game implies with what it teaches you. (Example: I can kill the target with a bomb, though it stands to reason I can also use the bomb to draw his security away and kill him unseen with no collateral damage)

So take Hitman; you start in a huge level and explore ways to kill your target. This includes scouting locations, locating the target, learning the map and the weaknesses in security, learning the target's movements, learning enemy guard movements, exploiting these things to infiltrate the location and get closer to the target, and skillfully execute the target without being seen. Then you have to exfiltrate without being caught. You have to have time to plan and execute both the assassination, and the escape.

YanSim apparently tells you none of this at all, and to top it off you're under a time limit each day. Having to learn all of that on your own with a time limit per day, and a set limit to when the game is over in a few days is neither fun nor fair. That's what I always thought when I watched his videos about ways to kill targets and such, "How am I going to do this shit properly if I'm rushed?" It's precisely why there are a lot of mods that disable XCOM 2's Avatar Project and other timed missions; people don't like being rushed in a game that traditionally rewards the gamer who takes time and uses their brain to develop strategies to overcome an adversary.

Now some people may say "Oh, but in Blood Money there's that timed mission in New Orleans where you gotta kill your targets before they assassinate the Senator you're protecting."
This is an invalid argument since that mission takes place well into the game, when the player has had plenty of time to play the other levels, learn the game, and gain experience on how to exploit the game's mechanics in their favor, which is what the game ultimately expects of you if you want to do it; especially if you're going for the best rating (Silent Assassin).
