I think the sad thing is the given description of Yandere-kun is more like how a yandere in this situation should be anyway. Someone who's simply emotionless like Yandere-chan as she is right now doesn't make a good or interesting character at all, not to mention a hilariously obvious yandere.
If people suddenly started disappearing at school/corpses keep randomly being discovered I'd think they'd pinpoint the loner girl who has literally no friends in an instant. If she acted more like the given social butterflies she'd blend in better. But why make a cunning, interesting yandere that's incredibly smart and intent in her actions when you can make a brash and wild murderer with no need for stealth?
If she didn't have her "superhuman adrenaline strength" then she would need her stealth too, but any time you get caught it clearly doesn't matter because you can just knife a martial arts master in the face if you've taken enough gym classes, or whatever. But that's not the point I started with in this post.
Someone who's obviously rowdy and social and maybe a little charming (if not downright insane) like this given Yandere-kun would be great and kind of hard to suspect. Even though the game has a "reputation" mechanic, it doesn't affect how the player character behaves at all. The other students have no reason to see Yandere-chan as popular if she's a cold, emotionless bitch. But you know, she gives out free food, so everyone loves her.
I like this second personality for both Yandere-chan and -kun. Too bad it doesn't fit his power dynamic of Yandere-chan needing Senpai to live. I have a feeling this is what the SNAP feature is going to be, but a Yandere willing to kill their Senpai out of rage was always more interesting.
edit, didn't want to double post: also, the fact that that said "friend" stated that 'a game where women are more powerful promotes pro-women" is hilarious in hindsight with this post having been made, he's not trying to portray Yandere-chan as more powerful than her Senpai at all, just that she outright needs him to live. Thats totally feminist amirite
