He's also wrong about the characters. Naked Snake aka big boss is a completely different person than "punished" Venom Snake who is Big Boss's body double. So not only is it a shit reference he couldn't even be assed to get the characters right.

He actually streamed and 100%ed Metal Gear V, but he was too busy making slurp noises at Quiet that he didn't get any of the story.

How did he type that out and think it was perfectly okay and justified? How did he type that out and not realize how stupid and mind-blowingly childish he's being?
Ignoring everyone who isn't praising you isn't the 'outcome of being drowned in hate', it's what a self-centered, spoiled brat does when he isn't being treated like a god. That's what toddlers do; plug their ears and go 'la-la-la, I'm not listening!' when they don't get their way. Not the hard-working, mature dev he paints himself to be.
I'm truly blown away by his sheer stupidity.

I may be wrong, but the sudden drop in Patreon donations could be from all of the Tumblr drama.

Idk if anyone has seen or kept up with it, but long story short some of Alex's 'loyal protectors' went to all the critic blogs, heavily harassing everyone with things such as 'kill yourself'. Many people have messaged him about it asking him to denounce the bullying, but most of the time he said that's what they get, that's what they deserve and attempted to turn it around like he's the victim. Everyone HATED his awful responses (I should really screenshot them....), and even more people turned to attacking him than ever. This all happened within a week or two, so I really think that's the reason. I believe on the YanSim subreddit, there's a whole topic about it called something like "This fanbase needs to have a serious discussion". Alex himself even put (long ass) responses on there that are AWFUL.

Edit: My favorite quote is him saying "If she didn't want fleas, she shouldn't have lied with the dogs"

Sorry the image is so tiny and hard to read. But here is a sample of him trying to make people feel sorry for him, and justifying the harassment.

While the intial drops on patreon at the beginning of each month is normal, it does seem like the amount he gets afterwards seems to be getting lower. These will be trying times on Alex, he won't be able to afford as many games for stream or waifu merch :<
I personally think he deserves it. Don't attack me it's just my opinion.

Does anyone else think that Alex is a con man? Or just a really bad, disorganized game developer?

I wonder because he's always seeming to push the game's completion back further and further. I honestly believe that at some point, he will drop off the face of the earth with all the money. Or keep trying to develop the game as long as possible to rake in the never-ending money flow.

I apologize if this has been asked before, I'm new :geek:

Yeah, this is a pretty common topic. I think that maybe in the early stages YS was a TRUE and HONEST project, but later Alex probably realized he could make a lot of money and be lazy as fuck at the same time.

It's okay.
Both, I believe.
In the beginning, I think he was honestly trying to make a good game, but bit off more than he could chew for his level of experience, especially with the following he got.

He had the chance to make money and get attention and he took it. He seems to have a background of being starved of attention and generally acting like a child, considering he still lives with his rich/busy parents, isn't attractive in any way, has awful social skills and thinks women are objects that aren't worth his while unless they're into video games and/or have massive sex appeal.

When he realized he can't finish the game, or at least, made his scope too massive, he kept going as not to embaress himself and lose the money and attention and fans who would defend and excuse his every fuck-up.

He uses big words and talks professionally to trick people into thinking he's experienced, and in videos speaks slowly and deeply and tries to come off as intelligent.

Pretty much, he has never had to really do anything in his life, and the game gives him a false sense of purpose. The only thing he didn't get handed to him was a social life of literally any kind because he's so insufferable.

He is a petulant child and has not worked for anything he currently has. As deserved, though, it seems to be slipping out from under his feet. The email videos, lack of progress, discovery and growth of anti-yandev-blogs and the Farms, and now this bullying meltdown have caused his fanbase to shrink. If Osana does not release in October, it might turn away even more people. If she does and she's awful, it might turn away even more people.

We'll see, I guess.

What's funny to me is, at first he seemed to enjoy all of the popularity and attention he was getting from YS. Like he enjoyed working on it because it made people like him.

Now I'm confused, because he acts like working on the game is killing him and that it's a burden to work on, even though he's getting well paid for it. It's this sudden change in behavior and attitude that makes me think he's going to visit Splitsville here pretty soon.

I know nowadays that it's harder to completely disappear after wrongdoings, but with all of the money he's sitting on and accumulating, I don't think Alex will care if he's forever hated for running off on the game, you know?

It could've been easier at first. He claims he was 'known for making rapid progress' in the beginning, quickly placing down the basics. Now he's faced with the actual meat of the game; what makes it good, and he can't do it. People know he can't do it, tell him so, and he won't admit he can't do it. The game isn't fun to work on and people aren't as excited for it.

The game also gave him lots of exposure and people found out about him. They also found out what a gross person he is and call him out for his behavior, which upsets him because so many people are telling him what he acts like. He wouldn't have nearly as many, if any at all, threads and anti-blogs if he never started the game.

tldr its not fun because theres no praise and now requires effort

I think my favorite thing about watching Alex is the fact that every single choice he makes seems to be the most unnecessarily difficult one. "I need PR? I guess I'll do it myself." "I need to code a game? Better not use any methods." "A yakuza member wouldn't conceivably do anything wrote here? I have a few complicated solutions!" "A girl is being harassed? I'd better make sure not to come to her defense and instead defend my opinion multiple times with increasingly longer walls of text." How can a person consistently keep failing to take the easy solution?

I think he always takes the hard way because he wants to be right and do things his way SO badly, he thinks it's worth the extra effort. Like everyone else has said, it boils down to him being a stubborn control freak.

He uses the excuse that if he were to hire someone to do these things, that they wouldn't do what he wants and ruin everything, making even more work for him to fix. I honestly think this is a BS excuse, for some reason he thinks he can always persuade people 100% of the time if he talks enough.

Also, if he hired people, then he wouldn't get all the praise. I think he gets off on people saying stuff like "OMG what a hard-working Dev!! I can't believe that he is making this game all by himself, wow!!"

He also is very pretentious and cocky, which I attribute to his home-schooling. He was never challenged, never forced to go outside of his comfort zone, never had to be open-minded, never forced to work with others on projects, never had to give or receive peer reviews on his and others' work, never told he was wrong or out of line...

I'm not saying homeschooling is all bad, btw. If done properly, I think it is very effective. I feel like his parents didn't put in the effort to school him though, it was just easier to have him stay at home and play video games all the time to stay out of the way.

Serious question:

Does TinyBuild follow the train-wreck that is Alex's social media/fan-base managing? Are they aware of the way he presents himself to his audience, of his constant self-victimization and the way he increasingly refers to this project as a burden?

If so, WHY are they willing to associate with him?

I don't really think they care. This is merely a cash grab and a publicity stunt. If Hello Neighbor is any indication, they'll keep releasing beta after beta (charging people for each one, of course) to YS's slavish fanbase while relying on the usual suspects of Youtube to generate hype. Alex doesn't really come into it--hell, he's not even working on it. Short of announcing that he raped and killed a girl in 1990, there isn't much he can do to break the formula.
