Getting a little off topic from Alex's recent tantrum, I saw an interesting video on pre-made assets in videogames and I'm also wondering about the 150k kickstarter coming up.
The video is titled The Asset Flip (The Jimquisition) and he had some interesting things to say that coincide with Alex's methods of "development". Here are some quotes that stood out to me:
And no, marketing is not an excuse. Marketing is expensive, yes, but he has that 200% covered thanks to youtubers playing his game and his own highly successful channel. No money needs to go towards porting, as of now it is a PC exclusive unless he makes MORE than 150k... I'm very curious as to what this 150,000+ is supposedly going towards.

- Games that use unity or unreal starter kits and asset packs to make an incoherent mess of a game, laden with engine inherent bugs that haven't been fixed because the "studios" behind these products don't seem to know how to actually code anything. (Spot on for Alex)
- Some of these games boast proudly to be the work of just one person, but its not much of a boast because you dispensed with the need for programmers, designers, artists, and composers because you bought everything for resale (or in Alex's case, used "volunteers" to do everything for you that you didn't purchase.)
- These developers have found ways to be even lazier. They've done the videogame equivalent of flipping a house. They buy assets, rename them, and then try to sell them to you. As scummy and hacky as this practice is, its not against unity's very lax terms and conditions, anybody can do this - you can do this yourself if you wanted - you know, if you're a fucking turd. I'll call it what it is, it's exploitation, its abuse of the system, its shameless hackery, and its quite frankly utterly pathetic.
- To have such little artistic merit, to have such little pride in oneself as a game developer and to have such little scruples as to surrender to the temptation of asset flipping is just truly, truly, utterly... pathetic. What these fuckers are creating is 'product', the most cynical cold-hearted product, that you could ever hope to see.
