Spot on here. The main reason I, and hopefully other older MLP fans enjoyed the show was that it was a lighthearted jaunt through fantasy. It didn't have that shitty toilet humor or "randum xDDDD" crap, it was reasonably well animated and the jokes were decent. I'm not really a die hard fan, but it was pretty greedy of Hasbro to decide to take the "highskool drama" route to cash in on the current "superimportant teenage years of our lives"fad. But this is the CWCki forums, and it's about Chris. He probably took it harder than most given his long history even with the non-FIM show. I guess this is like when EA swallowed Westwood and shat out RA3.Null said:I agree with Chris. Hear me out on this.
Aside from his off point about pedophiles being welcomed in with open arms, the rest of his rant is actually pretty spot on. The problem with taking the MLP horses and turning them into people is that it strips away many layers of the otherworldly nature. The basement dwellers don't like MLP because of its cuteness, they like it because embracing a talking horse in a made-up fantasy world takes them completely out of their miserable realities. It's escapism at its finest.
He's saying that humans aren't the problem. In the previous generations of MLP there were humans that took care of the ponies. The problem with making the ponies into humans is that it's no longer escapism, it''s no longer fantasy, it's trashy teen pop drama akin to the power puff girls when they gave them MANOS and tits.
All the shows he names are more intelligent than prissy "random access humor" cartoon network series and I think Chris gets lost in the idea of being a nihilistic Daria or a teen witch. Watching that kind of stuff helps pacify him over to the next day and he enjoys the shows even when he doesn't understand all the jokes. Daria is just high enough over his head that he can feel good about understanding intelligent humor without being completely lost in what is happening.
This pony shit lacks the fun escapism of MLP and doesn't give the humor of Daria. It's the worst of both worlds, teen girls nobody gives a fuck about and jokes and plot that a child can easily comprehend. Chris doesn't like it because it offers him nothing.
