Seems he hasn't been active with anything knockout related in a while, and I don't recall if I've read this here or elsewhere but supposely Inacio was forced out of his position in Knockout by the mod team, which I personally found hilarious since he was part of the same team who were demanding Garry he hand out ownership of facepunch forums to them. This and something I've heard from a former knockout Moderator tells me the team that started Knockout and the one that runs it now are very different.

Had to go check the thread where people discussed facepunch forums coming back, People were pretty damn angry about Hezzy being an epic troll (back in the facepunch days at least) or something and he was finally banned. Makes me wonder if there's anyone left from the old guard in the mod team, only name I recognize there is Reag.
Just discovered this thread this morning, and I'm glad I don't have to go through the effort of creating a Facepunch thread myself. Last night I made a post on another thread summarizing in-depth the current Garry's Mod Server Operator Rules situation and how Garry and Rubat have reacted to pushback (quite poorly lol). I feel that because this post was quite informative, it's more than appropriate to crosspost here. It's a bit lengthy, but most of it is substantive and I'd say it's worth a read.
I gave up on Garry's Mod for a long time because all of the servers became extremely sanitized and the admins turned petulant and childish. Most servers will instantly permaban you for using racial slurs, you can't make fun of trannies. Even the most inoffensive forms of minging (breaking RP rules in a troll-like manner) are banned from almost all RP servers, and most servers are run by retarded child-grooming diaperfur tranny jannies.
Just a few days ago, things got even worse than I expected. The new person in charge of Garry's Mod, Rubat665 (also known as robotboy665), updated the Server Operator Rules (Archive), announcing on Steam (Archive) that the current way server operators run their own servers is "unacceptable". The shocking part of this is, like I said, most servers are absurdly sanitized. To see the super restrictive and inoffensive nature of modern Garry's Mod servers, and try to come up with a way to suggest that it is still "unacceptable" in terms of how "offensive" it is takes somebody who is looking for things to be outraged by. If anything, it's far easier to become outraged at how restrictive everything is nowadays. The Server Operator Rules are a ruleset that server operators are supposed to oblige by, formerly a very liberal and common-sense ruleset. This update explicitly banned the Rape SWEP (a comedic scripted weapon, which they specifically went out of their way to name) and any and all content relating to "sexual violence". If you're familiar with the Rape SWEP, you would know it's a joke SWEP and has no sexual value, is known widely as a joke SWEP, and is a staple in many Garry's Mod servers.
Mind you, if you run a server that breaks these new bizarre rules, your server will get blacklisted, which removes it from the server browser, making it much harder (almost impossible, but not completely impossible) to users to access. A blacklist appears to be permanent, and the only way to appeal it is to send a begging email to the head janitor, Rubat. Any current or prospective server owner, as well as any player, should keep a tab on this as it continues. The rules for blacklisting have always been very unclear, but generally you had to be actively trying to get blacklisted. Since this ruleset update was published, we can now see what the moderators and admins who are in charge of the blacklisting process are concerned with.
My greatest concern is that these new rules may very likely have inadvertently just banned Pedobear (a meme that will always have a special place in my heart lol). Pedobear, like the Rape SWEP, is also a Garry's Mod staple, as weird as that may sound. There's a Pedobear Escape gamemode and a large chunk of DarkRP servers and other servers have always had Pedobear jobs and used Pedobear playermodels.
The removal of these harmless addons has caused quite a shitstorm, to which Garry Newman, the creator of Garry's Mod (as well as Rust), has replied by aggressively lecturing his userbase (Archive) about how he doesn't want servers to allow users the option to play as "rapists" or "pedophiles" and what he says goes. He also left a tasteless remark (Archive) about how anything his mother wouldn't approve of should be banned from Garry's Mod, instead of giving server operators the liberty of choosing what to ban from their own servers.
I have switched from giving up on this game to trying to make a server as of a few months ago (a project I have been working on and off again on for years), and I won't let these rules stop me from making my server the way I want to. I even created a personal Pedobear job for myself where he has a modified Rape SWEP that makes the player shout Navi voice lines when stalking his prey, and shouts "NIGGERS" and "Get a job nigger" when he rapes them. The idea that I would have to remove this job and the associated SWEP from my server because Garry Newman's mom wouldn't like it is absurd and I won't stand for it. I also founded my server on the basis that it would be anything goes for the most part, with bullying, slurs, and all kinds of minging being tolerated and oftentimes encouraged.

I believe this event at least warrants a small thread about Facepunch, as this is just one of many past controversies, with the state enforced racial diversity quotas in Rust being another notable point of contention amongst Facepunch users. Lemme know what you guys think and if anybody could help with a potential thread, then hit me up in DMs.

I've also noticed that the late Gen-Z playerbase oftentimes have never used the Rape SWEP and assume it's gross, they have no clue what Pedobear is, and when they find out about the things that are being banned, they don't understand the satirical value and try to justify the ban by saying it's "gross" (something I've seen children on the Steam discussions saying a lot). A good chunk of the playerbase is so painfully unfamiliar with anything other than Fortnite, FNAF, furnigger shit, and other autistic wirehead trends. At best they don't care about the classic addons, gamemodes, and memes of Garry's Mod and at worst wish to erase them entirely because it makes them feel left out (consider that most of these kids weren't even around when the Nyan Cat gun was a thing).
Ironically enough, what Garry and Rubat did is something the current playerbase of sexually-confused ADHD-riddled Zoomers truly support, because all the new playerbase cares about is being politically correct (a term I haven't used in literal years but I think it fits) and roleplaying as gay femboy ponies or whatever kids do these days. The idea that if they are offended by something on a server that they should leave is completely foreign to them.

The difference now (and hell even back then with the rust debacle) is his games aren't as relevant. Back in 2009 and 2010 your options for sandbox were limited, you had GMOD and maybe minecraft, both were very different games and GMOD enjoyed having a big community and years of user created content on top of whatever stuff there was out for other source engine games/mods.
Steam then and Steam now are very different, for one there is far more variety and there are more features to help modders and players (the workshop) meaning devs won't neee to build and maintain a site to host mods.

Rust was in early access for how long? I recall generating buzz in 2012 or so then hearing nothing about it except the game receiving some big changes a year later and getting out of early access in 2018. That seems pretty bad because the game tried to cash in dayz popularity, yet by 2018 nobody gave a shit about dayz and the market was saturated by survival games.
I get they are a small studio but can they even subsist off gmod and rust sales alone with such a slow output?
I know Rust has a skin store and an "economy" like TF2 and CS:GO does. It's quite possible that they make enough off of whales to pay their fairly small dev team.

The big thing was bad management. Garry would do shit on a whim like removing entire subforums and would stick up his middle finger when anyone complained. He also replaced vBulletin (which was decrepit but worked) with custom forum software that was always broken and slow, alienating more people as everything was broken up to when the forums shut down.
Facepunch also had the left-wing mirror-world version of Articles and Happenings, "Sensationalist Headlines" (and after 2016, "Polidicks"). Even before politics on the internet became as bad as it was Sensationalist Headlines was still considered the worst subforum on the site. It morphed over time to become a "serious" subforum where you would have to cite your sources, which attracts the type of people who want to debate economics papers on a website about Garry's Mod.
The biggest thing IMO is Source becoming irrelevant. Even when CS:GO was released in 2012 people would still mod HL2, CS:S, Portal, TF2, etc. As Source died so did the reason many people came to the forum in the first place, which meant that the "internet-is-not-serious-business" culture of Source modders vanished, leaving that hole to be filled by angsty left wing internet people.
