Fallout 76 General Thread - Bethesda does it again!

Check out what the original makers of Fallout are working on. Obsidian promises no microtransactions. Game is complete when purchased. The shade being thrown at Bethesda in the comments, and the video, is fucking hysterical.
Eh, don't care for it. The forced humor in the trailer and it aping Borderlands kills a lot of any interest I may have had in it. It'd still be better than 76, but that's such a low bar you can't even trip over it.

For me, the more pertinent question is how The Outer Worlds will stack up to Starfield since they're both new IPs in the sci-fi genre. It's tough to imagine that it'll be comparable (much less competitive) with Fallout or TES VI.

I need to see gameplay both from all of them before I can make a judgment, since it's entirely possible that - for example - TOW takes a linear swerve (putting it closer to say, Bioshock) that makes it pointless to compare to the Bethesda titles.

But if Obsidian and Microsoft have any neurons left they'll just crib the New Vegas gameplay model and improve on it, because (like I've said) there's a huge, growing market for "Bethesda game minus Bethesda".

Bethesda is considered the best at making intricate open worlds. That's how low the fucking bar has been set. And yet none of the big AAA companies seem capable of competing. Except one.
Rockstar. From everything I've heard RDR2 does just about everything a Bethesda title does, but better.

Really is fucking astonishing. The amount of fuck-ups on Bethesdas' part makes Tumblr look stable. Bethesda is the Dashcon of the gaming industry right now.

The Company Town setting would have been very appropriate for Fallout 76...

So I got a bug on Miner Miracles, I have all the right components but the game won't let me craft the left leg of the suit.

I made one a few days ago but it got broken in a fight with a scorched beast and never appeared in my inventory....

Rumours about FO76 going F2P. Oh bother.

It's just a rumor, but holy fuck Bethesda is going to generate a lot of bad PR with their hardcore fan base by dropping the price of something they sold for $59.99 American Dollars to $0 inside of 90 days if they make that move. That has to be the fastest "AAA to F2P" transition of all time, should it happen.

I'm surprised they didn't start with places where the always-on internet connection was a dealbreaker.

Seems a few sites are talking about it...
https://www.game-debate.com/news/26454/rumour-fallout-76-could-be-going-free-to-play-soon
https://www.altchar.com/games-news/rumours/586374/fallout-76-may-be-going-free-to-play-in-the-future
but Bethesda itself has said there is no truth to this rumor, but take their claim with a grain of salt too since they've certainly been quite untrustworthy.

Some British shit rag known as the "Daily Star" tried to claim the rumors were debunked by EB games somehow.

Except, well....

They've deleted the article.

And I'm torn about that response from Bethesda saying there's no truth to the rumor. For one thing I don't believe shit they say. This is a company that dropped the price of a $60 game by about half in less than a month. They're DESPERATE to get people playing it. But at the same time they're also massively greedy cunts, as proven by their unreasonably priced garbage in the Atomic Shop.
