Fallout series

I can't shake the feeling that FO4's modding scene is going to be limited with the creation tools thanks to the rumour that they will be allowing mods on the consoles. That is if they actually do but theres something seriously up with that.

We're slowly turning to NMA now, are we?
Perhaps, if this thread ends up as saying anyone enjoying the Bethesda Fallout games are dumber than Tor, low intelligence vault dweller, and a super mutant combined.

Nobody here is saying that we need to go back to Iso gameplay and cRPG mechanics. We all know that the game will probably be fun to play but we all acknowledge that Bethesda writes weak-ass plots and, as quite a rich universe, that they probably won't do Fallout much service and write the kind of plot that New Vegas had.

Of course I know that. But are we into Bethesda games for their plots? We are here for their relatively strong side quests and overall entertaining gameplay. Don't worry though, I still prefer how Obsidian handles their story.

Hell no and I would be fine with it normally. I don't care about the world of Elder Scrolls as long as the game is gun. But, as you might be able to tell, I quite like the Fallout Universe and I don't like the idea of these hacks being it's arbiters now. Sure Fallout 2 had some goofy shit in it I will admit. But these androids man, fucking hate the idea of Androids. Harkness was far too advanced in-terms of tech for the Fallout Universe and now we are having a whole game around the damn things.

Don't worry. I'm on your side here. The Institute as a whole is a cool faction, but I wanted them to be a nice mix of the BoS and the Enclave: Slightly malevolent, but not evil. The androids, while a cool idea, took me a while to swallow.

I'm guessing the main plot will be the Institute vs. the BoS over who gets to control technology in the wasteland. Hopefully, if Bethesda knows what's up, you'll be able to pick a side and both sides have their advantages and disadvantages and the decisions will impact the world. More likely, if they do that, it'll be like Skyrim where picking sides is a meaningless sidequest that has little to no impact on the main storyline.

Well from the trailer we can see that the Brotherhood of Steel's airship, the Prydwen, can be destroyed and also that a location that I think is MIT is destroyed from an internal explosion. I think a choice between the two will be likely, spoiler alert I'm not going with the Brotherhood.

If they're a buncha whack ass Dudley do rights like they were in DC fuck 'em. I'm pretty sure they're going to paint it as BoS = good Institute = evil and there will be no moral ambiguity. That's what made New Vegas superior: while the NCR was the lesser of two evils because they don't go around enslaving and raping people, they're still fucking douchebags who are using you as a pawn in their game. Hopefully there is an option to say "fuck em both" and join up with the Followers of the Apocalypse or take them both down and rid the Commonwealth of both, though I don't recall the Followers being mentioned in Fallout 3 at all so I think they might not exist on the East Coast.

I'm interested where the DLC will take place. New York? Canada? Cape Cod? Somewhere in the Midwest? Hopefully not an alien spaceship or a computer simulation.

I don't get the impression the BoS in 4 will be anything but goody-goodies like in FO3, because Bethesda can't into moral ambiguity, but mostly because they're incredibly iconic amongst fans of 3.

At the very least, it seems you'll be able to side with the bad guys this time around instead of being forced to side with the BoS.

Well, Skyrim gave me hope that Bethesda is learning in regards to creating some semblance of moral ambiguity over a black and white good vs. evil scenario. Like most people, I've only played the three most recent Elder Scrolls games and I was pissed that you always had to side with the Empire in Morrowind and Oblivion even though they were responsible for your incarceration. Skyrim was the first game where you could oppose the Empire. On one side you have the Empire, who sucked up to the Thalmor in banning Talos worship and were going to chop your head off for no reason, but they're the only thing keeping Skyrim from being torn up by the Thalmor. On the other side is the Stormcloaks who are fighting for independence and recognizing Talos as a TRUE and HONEST god. The Empire obviously failed in taking care of the empire and they're corrupt. On the other hand the Stormcloaks are ultra Nationalists who persecute elves, khajit, bretons, and aragonians. Neither side is perfect and it really depends on your personal values on who you side with.

I can see the potential to play the Brotherhood of Steel as a more violent faction, maybe all the Enclave tech went to their heads and they got a hard-on for meeting out justice. But more than likely I agree, we've seen multiple footage of the Brotherhood of Steel and absolutely nothing about the Institute. That could be them just showing off the new Vertibird mechanics but I don't give Bethesda much credit.

To be fair to Fallout 3, the Enclave should not have been possible to side with for an outsider - otherwise they'd be doing the Enclave wrong (though they of-course did, massively, in other areas).

Quite, it was a nuanced story with several complex factions and your alignment was left entirely to the players personal convictions. I personally went with the Legion so that the NCR get's fucked up and Caesar marches onto their capital at Shady Sands which is less than 300 miles due-west of Vegas.

The Followers of the Apocalypse are based out of the Boneyard (Los Angeles) and so are unlikely to have a place anywhere in the East. They have sent some of their personnel into Utah (pre-Legion Caesar) but even that was only two people on a mission.

Ah the infamous Mothership Zeta. No idea for the DLC, maybe they'll go up to "Ronto" which was significant enough to be mentioned alongside the Commonwealth itself by Ashur in Fallout 3 The Pitt

To be fair, you weren't going against an army with different ideas in Morrowind or Oblivion. You were going against two armies trying to bring about the apocalypse through the use of demons and other weird shit. Why would you want to oppose the Empire and join the Mythic Dawn? Skyrim was just the first game with an actual separate faction.

Their airship reminds me of the mid-west brotherhood. I don't know if they could make an appearance in the game but perhaps they would be a viable BOS chapter to put in the game in terms of moral ambiguity. Considering they forcibly annex local populations into their protection with martial law in exchange for food, recruits, and technology. Not to mention they will fire on unarmed civilians that impede the path to their objective. I think they are a good middle ground between the selfless super mutant slaying Knights of the east coast and the keep picking fights with someone bigger and stronger than them Paladins of the west coast.

One thing that always bothered me about New Vegas was that you could never really join the two big factions. I mean I understand why you couldn't become a legionnaire or trooper and get stuck in the chain of command but I saved the president, dealt with the enemy's leader and general, handed the war to them on a silver platter, and solved several other problems in Vegas for them and all I got was a medal. I should be senator of the newly annexed New Vegas.

The airship is called the "Prydwen", which was the name of a ship that King Arthur used in associated lore. More than likely we will be seeing a Brotherhood of Steel, possibly lead by an adult Arthur Maxson from Fallout 3. There's no indication that this is the MWBoS, I highly doubt Bethesda gives a fuck about them.

I don't think that the NCR can just grant you an elected position for being a good soldier .

I never followed the NCR route but I know what it entails, plus I was always happier being what amounted to as a mercenary for Caesar's Legion. Fit my character more.

But yeah, as an actual soldier you'd have like rules and shit which probably wouldn't involve taking a casual walk up to Jacobstown and helping them with their shit whilst the war was on or other associated business that the NCR doesn't care about.

Fair enough, but I'm willing to bet that the courier would have a great campaign regardless. Then again sitting at a desk looking over policy would ruin the whole mysterious wanderer thing the courier has going for them.

I'm guessing that's dependent on your speech skill

They've stated that the G.E.C.K for F4 is going to be more or less the same as Skyrim. The only big difference is that when you install a mod it backs up your autosave incase the mod broke something.

What I have a feeling is they'll allow mods for Fallout 4 the same way previous developers have allowed mods on console. By transferring the files via USB. Or they'll have a specific service you can submit mods to that people can download on there. It's unlikely they've stripped down the tools given they've already implemented limited building mechanics in the game itself.
