Fallout series

Make sure you download the Restoration Patch to get access to cut content. It makes the game a little harder too, so heads up.
The restoration project? I'll get it if it makes for a better experience. Should I get the Unofficial Patch as well?

How common is Big Guns weapons and ammo in 2? Can I get some early enough to make tagging worth it, or should I tag Small Guns?

BTW people, have you ever tried Fallout Yesterday? This is a mod that supposedly adds early Fallout 3 plot on the F1\2 engine. Y'know, that one where you fly to space in the end to stop evil doctor from releasing new "black plague" into the atmosphere.

Got the Restoration Patch installed, it came with the Unofficial Patch and a few other mods to boot.

Guess this means I'm getting a meatier experience, will play once I get the Big Guns build figured out.

Big Guns (other than the Flamer) aren't common until you get to the NCR/San Francisco

Although you can get some of them from the gun shop in New Reno if you're a made man, and Newt Morton drops a big gun in a random encounter (you gotta kill his brother in Redding first)

If you know what you're doing, you can get a Bozar pretty early on - personally I just always go small guns in FO2 - pistol, revolver with quick mag, combat shotty, pancor jackhammer, gauss pistol/rifle is a sound weapon progression.

For big guns, the first one you'll probably come across is on Marcus, and don't kill Sherrif Worf because that's a dick move.

Alright, here's a summary of my final moments with Fallout.

I went to Adytum to fix their hydroponics, get hardened PA and a Turbo Plasma Rifle, and liberate them from the corrupt Regulators with the help of the Blades (went well, only a few generic NPCs died in the attack). I then traveled to the Followers base to recruit Katja and get their assistance in assaulting the Cathedral.

What transpired was a total clusterfuck. After getting info from the informant, I went upstairs with my full party and several FOA troops only to be ambushed by Nightkin with plasma & laser rifles. I kept reloading as I didn't want my companions to die, and navigating was a total pain in the ass thanks to everyone blocking me. I eventually killed Morpheus and gained access to the basement, and I died over 5 times trying to kill the mutants guarding the Vault entrance (a mixture of them being oddly durable and them getting lucky with critical hits). Save scumming ensued as I fought over 8 mutants on the third floor (blame the lucky mutants and my companions being fragile), but I was able to show the Master the error of his ways thanks to the holotape I got from Vree.

I went to Mariposa at the behest of Elder Maxson, and returned to report my findings. After deliberation with the High Elders, they deigned to give me a whopping three Paladins to assault Mariposa (only the outside, of course). Mariposa was another clusterfuck, but not because of the mutants (they were pushovers compared to the ones at the Cathedral), but rather due to all the goddamn laser barriers that kept damaging my companions. I soldiered on until I was offered to talk to Lou, and I listened to as much of the late Tony Jay's dialogue as I could before I killed him (a critical shot to the eye with the Alien Blaster, which caused Lou to fucking implode in on himself). After activating the self-destruct sequence, I endured the barriers as I escaped, but Dogmeat died to one of them (I kept reloading the save, but I eventually got tired and said fuck it).

As thanks for my service to Vault 13, the Overseer told me to fuck off. Got good endings for everywhere except Adytum and The Hub.

Overall, the final portions of the game felt like a tedious slog with companions.

Companions were a last minute addition to Fallout 1 hence why they tend to be annoying to deal with and die quickly in the end game. And hell, apparently it's canon that Dogmeat died to the laser barriers.

You'll have a better experience with them in 2. Particularly if you have high charisma as that dictates how many followers you can have with you.

Noted, I have 6 Charisma to get Sulik, Vic, and Cassidy as they seem to be the better regarded companions.

I find it fascinating how having 50 in melee and unarmed as well as 5 in Strength seems to make a tribal utterly incompetent at using spears. Made it to Klamath, and I'm having a rather frustrating experience with the game so far thanks to that and the game refusing to give me any gun beyond a shitty pipe rifle (did the guys who left Vault 13 to be with the Vault Dweller forget to bring 10mm pistols with them?).

I've hit a wall thanks to the geckos in the Toxic Caves (there's apparently a pistol there), so I might have to reload an earlier save...

Pistol is in the Trapper Town caves in Klamath - the Toxic Caves have a lot of late midgame equipment in them that you won't be accessing early at all.

Get Tony Jay's voiced lines, missed out on David Warner's :stress:

Yeah, Fallout 2's early game is an absolute slog. Once you get past it and get some decent weapons though, it's really good.

The economy breaks in half around the time you hit Broken Hills though - one or two overworld encounters of "moonshiners vs highwaymen" or something of that ilk on the way to Modoc and you're rolling in enough desert eagles and hunting rifles to pretty much whatever you need

Didn't have any choice, my party and the FOA troops put the whole place on high alert as soon as we went up the stairs.

Anyway, I bit the bullet and reloaded to the point that I arrived at Klamath. Instead of helping Torr, I worked with the twins to trick him away from the brahmin. Lost karma and felt like a dick, but this was done to get the quest where I have to rescue him from the "ghost" in the canyon (the one with the Vertibird that Lily from NV mentions). His mom freed Sulik from his debt as thanks, so now I have my first companion, which should make fighting the geckos less tedious (now I can get to that moonshine still and find that missing tracker without having to waste so much ammo).

Thanks to the RP, I was able to report the twins to Torr's mom, which earned me 300 XP and made up for me working with them.

I don't think I've ever not helped Torr now that I think about it - I'd always wondered why there was a crippled robot with no indication of why it's there.

If you want some mega cheese for freeing Vic from Metzger, then
Make sure you steal Metzger's shotgun and the Psycho from the guard that has it - dose any of the slaver guards with Jet twice and rest 30 minutes. Every guard - they all share the same model and the game therefore treats all their stats as the same - will have 4ap and 1 strength, so will be able to throw one punch for no damage, instead of shooting you to shit

What in the fuck? Is yesterday out in English?

I found a means to temporarily get 8 Charisma, should I pick up Marcus or Skynet as a fourth companion?

I got the RP/UP, so I can find armor for Marcus at the abbey, but I'll be hitting the Sierra Army Depot soon as well.

I personally prefer Marcus. Although you might want to get him a replacement weapon asap. Unless you like you and your companions becoming Swiss cheese.

Got it, I found a Plasma Rifle in Mariposa and had it upgraded to Turbo. Will go to Broken Hills to fix the mine and recruit Marcus.

Found tons of MF Cells, so I think Marcus can be a good addition once I get that armor from the Abbey.

Far as I remember with The Hub, it was suppose to have a good ending but shit's bugged. Also for Adytum, I assume you also mean the Followers of the Apocalypse. They were suppose to have a quest in rooting out a traitor which would get you the good ending for them but I think all that remained for it was some dialogue and not much else.

Considering how far you gotten and your question on big guns, by the time you reach San Francisco, you should hopefully see one of the weapons to purchase from the gun merchant being a minigun that takes caseless ammo. Otherwise, you'll get that by the final area of the game with the ammo that goes with it. Take the right perks, stats, and all and by then you may as well be able to fuck shit up on burst. Otherwise you could give that to Marcus and hope he doesn't kill any companions or you during burst.

You know, after The Frontier, there is no way that I can ever take that type of plot seriously in Fallout ever again, even if tis from Van Buren.

In retrospect, going to space in Fallout is kind of a dumb idea Im glad we never got to see it in F3VB

I did enjoy this about this quest, there is no "good" outcome for it. They TRICK you into thinking there is by convincing most in the tower that ghouls are nice and just want to be accepted, whatever, but then they pull the rug under you and reveal that the ghouls you let him are argurably more racist and violent than the people inside.

These innocents are dead because of you. Because you believed that just because ghouls are oppressed and the people up there were racist, that stuff was black and white.

Turns out they did have a reason to fear these ghouls.

You might as well have pulled the trigger.

Oh and Three Dog will scold you no matter the outcome.

So in an interesting twist, they show its best to not get involved, at all.
