I know this is a GZDOOM game, but theoretically speaking, they could just straight up remake the whole game in this engine if they wanted to, not just provide us an FPS. Strife offered limited RPG elements so it has certainly been done before, and what has been done in the engine has been pushed to the limit over the years, so it's not like the engine is too primitive for it. Set up a skill/XP system, make skill checks context sensitive(for example, press the action button near the water pump. If you have the skill and parts, you repair it, if not the game tells you that you need parts/aren't good enough to fix it). Adding in different characters shouldn't be hard altho you would need to create assets for their UI head and sounds(you would also need to edit cutscenes, depending on how they work). Armor wouldn't be hard to program in either, altho again it would take some extra art assets. Companions might be a bust but they were always a gimmick in the first Fallout anyways, world travel system would also need to be thought thru but cutting it out entirely and letting you teleport around locations wouldn't be too much of an issue either. Looks like they already got speech system taken care of, you would just need to program in speech checks(chance to fail, what happens when you fail, what skills or conditions are needed to pass ect.)

Even if they just release a short shooter game it will be amazing, but if they take it all the way, they could genuinely beat everyone to re-mastering the original Fallout. Vault 13 was the last dedicated project if I remember correctly, there is still a Fallout 2 project for Fallout 4(Project Arroyo) but nothing is being done for the original game.

It would also be a good way for newer fans who are spooked by the old game's admittedly clunky gameplay to actually try the older ones, assuming they do 1+2.
While I don't think Bethesda would copyright strike them (they aren't Nintendo after all) I can see this falling through due to the scope of the mod. But, if it does come out in full, I will happily play it.

I never understood that sentiment. Compared to a lot of CRPGs, Fallout 1 and 2 are extremely easy to get into, especially since both also have good tutorials that will have you know how to play the game in less than an hour. It's not gameplay that turns them off, the it's the dreaded need to read or "muh graphics" which makes no sense since these kinds of visuals do not age. Ironically enough, Fallout 3/New Vegas aged worse since these primitive Gamebryo models were already outdated by then. Claymation models have their own charm that will still look decent 10 years from now, kind like most cell shaded games.

Normalfags will never get into these games if they don't have the attention spam, there will always be some excuse. Maybe there will be a minor amount of FPS fans who might then get into Fallout 4, since that is the easiest game to get into with the most "modern" gameplay mechanics, but I doubt they will pick up the older titles since they're too slow. If anything it will be a treat to the fans of the first game who always wanted to see these locations in full 3D, something that modders have been chasing ever since Fallout 3 released. As far as that goes, this is definitely the best attempt since it is 1:1.

Turn based isometric games in general are niche.

Of course, they're the descendants of tabletop RPGs, the original nerd game. What I mean is that among these CRPGs, Fallout 1 and 2 are some of the easier to get into, kind of like how Fallout 3 and New Vegas are also easy to play even for someone that never played a proper RPG before. Getting filtered is a matter of niggercattle attitude, no matter what it may be, and that isn't going to change, there is no universe where these kinds of people will ever play a game that makes them think and read and explore without a quest arrow or yellow paint.

Obsidian hasn't made anything good since Deadfire. It would be probably worse than anything Bethesda would make at this point
thats because everyone who made NV probably left Obsidian at this point
Obsidian today is run by woke white man hating blue haired activist lesbian feminists liberal women, and nothing good will come out of that ever.
I'm really not upset about that, developers are going to be retards at the end of the day, I don't think theres much hope change on that front, Obsidian are a bunch of talentless hacks, but completely ignoring games in general because of disagreeable content means only playing old games

Hey, Kiwi Vault Dwellers, Chosen Ones, Lone Wanderers, Couriers, and Sole Survivors. Started with 3, then went back and played 1, 2, and even Tactics (which I didn't find awful!). I played a bit of NV when it came out, but I got hit bad with Fallout burnout about twenty or so hours in and never finished it. I'd like to fix that, and to that end I'd like to ask what bugfixes you guys recommend. I do not intend to install any mods beyond patches/fixes (besides maybe Titans of the New West, since I love powered armor). I figured I'd ask here, since I don't feel like dealing with Nexus trannies or Redditors.

For your first playthru, you should play completely vanilla with DLC. Once you finish the game, then you will get a better idea as to what you want, but the base game is fine by itself after the patches that stabilized it.

Viva New Vegas is what I've used in the past and it works great. Titans of the New West is mandatory in my opinion! I also tell most people to get the Living Desert mod, I'm 99% certain it doesn't effect anything vanilla in a bad way.

I should add that there's nothing wrong with pure vanilla NV, and the Viva New Vegas list gives you all of the mods you'll need to keep it mostly stable without adding or changing anything.

Forgot to add that if you own Fallout 3(or pirate it) with all the DLC, you can play Tale of Two Wastelands, a mod that combines both games into one(so you start in Capital Wasteland but it has all the improvements like DT armor system and survival mode ect. alongside all the new items).
I recommend version 2.9.4 as it was the last stable version, archive should still be around. The newer version, 3.2 or 3.3 are not stable and have fucked with the game balance considerably. Mods for TTW are not compatible between 2.9.4 and 3.X so I suggest just going for 2.9.4 and skipping later versions entirely, but obviously you should still play New Vegas vanilla first if possible.

I really wish Brotherhood of Steel 2 would have come to fruition or at least have the same communal support for it as Van Buren. What I have seen of it looked much better than BOS 1 which from playing it some was not a terrible ps2 game. Maybe not the best fallout, but it released a lot more playable than 76 did.

Because anything thats not a first person action shooter is considered "too hard" and "slow" to normalfags

Brotherhood of Steel was a piece of shit game and the sequel would change half a dick about that. The only good part of it is the Florida setting, which is getting recycled for Fallout Miami mod(yes, there is some inspiration from BOS 2 in there) so the game is good for exactly nothing now.
Remember, if it wasn't for POS we likely would have gotten Van Buren released. Interplay was bleeding money badly and POS was one of their last ditch efforts to try and make CRPGs appealing to the console players, it failed and therefore the limited resources Interplay had were gone(and so was the good name of the franchise) and the project had to be cancelled, despite being allegedly close to completion.

Like thats your opinion man, but I do see that you said last ditch effort and bleeding money badly, so I think they had more issues than BOS not selling greatly. Personally I feel like had Van Buren released instead not much would be different. Maybe New Vegas would be in a BoS setting instead of vegas.

TTW is set aside for the playthrough after the vanilla one. I still have my install discs for the GotY edition of 3, so I should be good to go there.

Thanks to everyone that responded, I'm looking forward to finally giving the Mojave the attention it deserves.

We can't say if Van Buren would be a success, but at least it would sell better. POS was aimed at console dudebros, except nobody bought it both because it didn't actually attract the target audience, was ridiculed and hated by the core fanbase, and because the game was just straight up not good. At least I heard some good things from the Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance games, which play very similarly, not so much with POS. Van Buren had the already established CRPG fanbase who were hungry for a real RPG after the release of Fallout Tactics(a surprisingly controversial title within the classic Fallout community, which is silly looking back) so just letting the devs finish the game would have been a smarter play. Fallout 3 sure did. Plus, 3D graphics and real time action might have also attracted more mainstream players at the time, who knows. I think there was also talk of including multiplayer, altho not sure if it would be coop or deathmatch like in Tactics. Either way, I don't think Van Buren would save Interplay, their downfall is legendary and I suggest anyone who isn't familiar with it look it up. I think Indigo or NoClip might have a documentary on that, otherwise Tim Cain talks a lot about his time there. At best, it would only stop the bleeding until Interplay did something else incredibly stupid and wasteful.

Kinda like goin on a tard rage because someone said outer worlds wasn't good.
People can say what they want about the game, I am just Correcting The Record(TM) when necessary. Plus, this is a warm up for when Outer Worlds 2 comes out, if it's not any worse than the first game then I am not going to be humble about it. Not just one but two Obsidian space RPGs better than Starfield? I can't let an opportunity like that pass me by.
Not a lot of Starfield fan strongholds left, and I am going to hit every single one of them when the time comes. If you think this is something, you ain't seen nothing yet, but that has nothing to do with Fallout directly. This is why I said that further discussion can be taken to The Outer Worlds thread.
