Were there kids in Shady Sands? It's the only town I've been to so far, and I didn't see any when I was there.

Found a hunting rifle and 10mm SMG in Vault 15, should I give Ian the SMG and all the 10mm ammo while keeping the rifle?
Yes, in the uncensored version in each settlement you could find children roaming around.

I think you should keep the SMG, because sometimes the burst mode can be quite handy and the single shot mode behaves like a regular 10mm pistol. If I were you I'd keep 'em both, but Ian's should be good with the hunting rifle.

Thing is, I have the Finesse trait, and I'm not sure how automatics behave with critical hits. If they aren't that good for that, I'm looking at 30% less DPS overall, and I'd hate for the ammo to be wasted for that. I'll keep it if critical hits work well, otherwise I'll give it to Ian to make the most of it (and stay out of his way, of course).

I'm kinda surprised that ammo's not all that scarce so far, I'm finding more than Fallout 3's early game.

Hopefully TTW 3.3 fixes some of the issues that I have with hard crashes in places between super duper mart river and the anchorage memorial. That place is like a no go zone every time i've tried TTW. Like I said before it runs smoothly 41% of 50% of the time.

That depends. Do you enjoy being riddled with bullets over and over again?
Fair point, he does 10 points of damage with his pistol if I'm in his sight. I don't want to think what'll happen with an automatic weapon.

One other thing (I'm a veritable geyser of curiosity, I know), are the mutant invasion endings for the towns still in 1.1?

I know Necropolis is one so I'll have to get there within 90 days, but can I take my time with the other towns after the water chip?

I think the settlement invasion thing is the same as the original version. Anyway in my playthrus I never had an invaded settlement, and I took my time as well. I think you should be fine.

Each settlement, apart from Necropolis, should take about 150 days before the super mutants shows up.

@Vault Boy

Download Fallout: FIXT for future playthroughs. (Fairly sure that vanilla saves won't load on it) It fixes a bunch of bugs, brings back kids, and even has optional features to implement such as being able to play after the ending.

There's also this other mod that implements Fallout 2's mechanics and weapons into 1, so that might be worth checking out as well.

Absolute fun as fuck build I recently did: Energy Weapons focused legionary

Here's what I did:

Made it a goal to acquire the following weapons: Pew-Pew, YCS/86, GRA Tri-Beam Laser Rifle, Holorifle, Elijah's LAER. The Incinerator and Flamer are also really good.

Got the following perks: Vigilant Recycler (recover more energy weapon ammo/cells/fuel tanks and gain access to optimized ammunition, which is far superior to Overcharged), Meltdown (enemies blow up upon critical hits with energy weapons, very effective against groups of enemies), Bloody Mess (Increased damage), Jury Rigging (most weapons are going to be hard or expensive to repair), Better Criticals (more crit damage), Finesse (much higher crit chance), Math Wrath (Decreased VATS cost, you'll be using VATS a lot).

Focused entirely on science and repair as well. Fourth tag skill was survival to make hardcore easier.

Wrapped up Vault 15, returned to Vault 13 to get more weapons and to quell rebels, rescued Tandi by tricking the Khans into thinking I was their leader's dead father, found the giant footprint with stealthboy (my first unique random encounter, hope I can find the alien blaster too), and won Shady Sand's everlasting gratitude.

Heading to Junktown next to get Tycho and take down Gizmo, should I go for the Hub after or make a beeline to Necropolis?

I vote Hub.

I vote Hub.
Maybe, but I'm not sure how many days I'll have left after Junktown. I'd hate to arrive at Necropolis after the mutants razed it.

I'm thinking that I arrive there, fix their water pump, get the water chip, and I'll have plenty of time to do side content afterward.

All assuming that the mutant invasion endings were scrubbed along with their timer.

The settlement timer should begin ticking after you visit it for the first time, but don't take my word for it.

Regarding TTW 3.3, I hate this limbo state. It has been months that I wanted to do a playthrough of it but this endless wait simply sucks. Why tease that is complete while it's not apparently? And god forbid if you go to their Discord channel to ask why.

Yeah, I could just play 3.2 but it would suck if the new version gets released while I'm halfway in game.

I've got the exhumed/powerslave remake idling by in my PC for the very same reason. Theres a new update due.

Is there not some bullshitty requirement for the new TTW? Like you need to use a certain version of the games.

Do not give Ian an SMG unless you want burst-fire in your back.

Their installer is quite picky regarding the game versions, simply because Roybatty is such an anti-piracy white knight retard, so they had to register each original .exe hashes in the installer.

This means if a new update drops, like the recent Fallout 3 one, the installer doesn't recognize the .exe hash and refuses to go on.

And what was TTW team's answer to the problem?

"Use this rather complicated, prone to crashes, downgrade method or just wait because 3.3 is right around the corner! (tm)"

Or you could just get the GoG version (in a legit way or not) and the installer should accept the .exe version regardless and install the mod.

I never knew this stuff existed - finally, no more getting stuck in a game-ending state because Ian is a little bitch blocking the only door in an outhouse that I ran into to see if there was anything lootable there!

Also, no more having friend or foe colouration being a fucking perk pick!

Uhhh Fallout 3 bros? We've most definitely won

If Fallout NV becames a whore house of faggotry, might as well go into that "you know, F3 at least aint a cringe factory" argument.

Ian and machine guns dont work.

You will get A LOT of "Ian accidentally shot you" messages.

I personally recommend you play on the PC with the fan patches. F1 and 2 lost a lot in the cutting room floor (especially 2) and these patches try to add as much as they can back. Its a bit like Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines, the fan patches just make the experience feel like it what should have always been like.

That fucking update screwed the modding community so bad, especially with the Script Extender and its dev saying he will create a patch for the Extender "eventually".

Aka, a long ass while if not ever.

It legit hurt Fallout 3

I'll second the Fallout 2 Restoration Project - it adds so much to the game, including allowing you to actually resolve Sulik's quest to find his sister (and making the Rangers finally relevant to boot), implementing the EPA that Myron mentions and most impressively, including alternate character sprites in character creation, meaning you're no longer tied to being either Bowlcut McTits or Beefsteak Boringman.

Im honestly surprised and shocked at how much good shit was cut out, some stuff I cant begin to understand why was cut, since they were integral to the overall experience.

It still baffles me to this day that they never gave Sulik's quest an actual ending from the get go. He's most people's first companion in that game I'd imagine and does a good job at helping establish the tone of the game in general.

I know that they had to rush the game out, it just felt weird to me.
