Fallout series

Sci Fi purists can be worse than Teen Wolves when it comes to bitching, hot damn.

I think Fallout 4 is fine, the Minutemen are kinda dull, but other than that it was always about the non-essential lore items that made Fallout an interesting universe.

Also what do fans expect, both studios who develop Fallout, work them differently. At least the controls are light on the changes. New Vegas had better RPG elements than Fallout 3 IMO, but then again we're talking about Obsidian.
Well Obsidian, like Bethesda, is a business, which means if Fallout 4 sells more than New Vegas then they'll probably make their next game more like the former.

People hate Fallout 4 because there's this ironic stigma towards First Person gameplay all of the sudden.

I actually had fun playing Fallout 4, people are just too autistic lately about stupid bullshit to play a videogame without going off into PhD thesis length rants about how Fallout 1 and 2 are the best games ever and everything from 3 to 4 are basically worse than Revolution 60.

I for one loved blowing up the BoS in support of the Institute

I mean I liked 1 and 2, but honestly the actual gameplay is just stiff, tedious, and a bit dated. If you you don't click in exactly the right area you can end up completely fucking up what you're doing, and likely to end up getting killed. The time limit on the first mission in 1 is a pain, if you're not careful you can end up completely losing all progress and having to restart the game. The stories are definitely better in the first two, but honestly I find that the actual gameplay, more than makes up for the lacking story.

The time limit in 1 isn't that bad, they patched it ages ago to be more generous, didn't they?

Yes they're stiff, but that's what games were like at the time. You have to get used to it. I'd say it's more than worth it considering how well-written 1 and 2 are.

As someone who has played all the mainline games, I'd agree with this for the most part, though New Vegas comes the closest to FO2 in terms of storywriting level (for obvious reasons)

Fallout 3 suffers mostly from Bethseda doing most of the writing, and let's face it, they kinda suck at not writing black and white morality tales, which FO3 largely is.

Fallout 4 shows they learned somewhat from their mistakes, but you've still got one default good guy faction (the Minutemen) that is kinda bland on their own, which is why their story gets more interesting depending on whether you ally them with the Railroad (good goals crippled by a myopic viewpoint, definitely need a supplementary moral compass to temper their flaws), the Brotherhood (mostly decent goals with some disturbing bigoted views that gray their portrayal quite a bit), or the Institute (the blackest faction of them all, though not wholly evil with some redeeming qualities, just not very obvious or explicit unless you try to change that, though still on the darker side of gray at absolute best)

Ironically, though, FO3 was better at letting the player be a bastard or benefactor. FO4 makes you have to go very much out of your way to be an asshole.

I absolutely adore old CRPGs, so 1 and 2 have a special place in my heart. That does not make 3 on bad. They're different, and that's fine. You can't make games forever using 90's design philosophy. Hell, even taking TES, which has arguably changed the least of the old computer RPGs, has massive changes from Daggerfall (one of my favorite games ever) to Skyrim.

I think the Xbox version has a really bugged Railroad faction, because I couldn't exit the Institute after deciding to side with Father. It sucked, and I had to help the boring ass minutemen. At least they aren't a whimpering force anymore and actually have checkpoints like a true militia.

I know the NMA cowmilking is probs getting old but I was hoping to dig up some old school salt from the FO3 days, yet didn't want to bother sifting through years of archived autism. Luckily I stumbled upon this gem of a link here:

Don't Buy the Hype - 2/12/2007

tl;dr Bethesda is the Great Satan and were behind 9/11 and the Kennedy murders.

EDIT: found this little nugget in the Sheeky thread I found the above link in and admittedly did make me laffo a bit:

Oh no, I'm not saying they aren't great games because they're still pretty damn cool, just saying that they weren't the totally perfect games all the fanboys thought they were. Plus I don't think the series would have the broad appeal they have now if they stayed the same as the first two.

Is anyone else creeped out by that Sugar Bombs kid on the pre-war ads?

He looks like a foreshadowed villain.

I feel like a lot of people hate Fallout 4 just because it's made by Bethesda. It's an okay game you can have fun with.
By all means it's a really fun game, it's just that its story is too easy to not care about. I've played like 30+ hours in and I have yet to move past the portion of the main quest where you find the Railroad because I'm too busy exploring Boston and having kickass adventures with my magic duplicating dog.

Shees, even the Steam forums aren't safe from the salt infection.

ÄmJii[/URL]]Wow, this looks even more pathetic than I expected.

If Fallout 3 was "Oblivion with guns", Fallout 4 is "CoD wannabe by Bethesda"... I was expecting some knifing action and QTE's popping up during combat.

Fallout 4 360 Quick Scope Montages (feat. Skrillex) <- calling it now.

GAMES SHOULD NOT HAVE BROAD APPEAL GAMES ARE ART THEY SHOULD BE MADE FOR HYPERINTELLIGENT NERDS LIKE ME AND ONLY ME GTFO GEARS OF MADDENCHARTED DUTY DUDEBRO AND STOP KILLING MY PRECIOUS HOBBY :twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted:

It's more sad how people think first person only applies to vanilla shooters. How many games have these spergs actually played in their life that gives you First Person options?

>Borderlands lets you switch between camera views
>The Hitman series was known to have generous camera, and even peek around corner views while using First Person view
>GTA V on the latest consoles lets you use First Person mechanics, heck it was designed around those since the initial PS3/360 launch
>Mirrors Edge really isn't even a shooter, nor was it designed to be like one

how has no one brought up that character development is the blandest thing since....well, since skyrim. at least that had the rogue/warrior/mage divisions. the perks are so broad you can do everything well, with guns and energy weapons only differing on a visual level. every character ends up at the same point because you're never required to specialize and theres no reason to take worthless more advanced perks (oh wow 10 energy resistance cool).

that's ignoring the fact that the game tries to give you this "save muh baby" motivation despite literally 5 minutes with them. fuck my kid, lets be a wasteland warlord - oh wait, the story needs me to care to progress. why give me a choice then? whether I'm a dick or not in dialogue is completely irrelevant.

bottom line is fo4 is a poor mans borderlands. even all the loading screens are "HAVE YOU FOUND THIS GUN YET ITS SUPER COOL TO SHOOT ZOMBIES WITH" . its fine for getting stoned and having a completely brain dead fps experience but it utterly fails at being engaging beyond that. and frankly there are better games to get high and shoot shit.

New Vegas and its DLC had a better story than 4 in ways, but the Brotherhood of Steel are personally my least favorite aspect aside from the Minutemen. Pompous, hypocritical, and likely a selfish incentive to hoard tech for themselves.

Also Deacon has absolutely no understanding of how a disguise works, since he changes it every minute or two.
